La Casilla authentic berber style

House - Entire home/apt · Calle del Barrio Bajo, Bubión, Andalusia 18412, Spain

The Space

This small village house is tucked away just below the church and the traditional washhouse of Bubión. Built in authentic berber style, there are chestnut beams, slate ceilings, terracotta-flagged floors and whitewashed walls. It is a house of genuine character.
Although very much part of the village, you nevertheless feel hidden away from the rest of the world here. The south-facing views down the Poqueira Valley are fabulous, encompassing the rural bliss of the surrounding mountains, sweeping across a shimmering Mediterranean Sea to Morocco beyond. The walk down to Pampaneira which starts from the Church is one of the great walks of the Alpujarras.

This is a perfect base for anyone who loves mountains and nature. An intricate network of paths and tracks at all levels will satisfy walkers of every ability and inclination, and there is one of Spain's finest stables very close by (the owner lives in the village).

Local facilities are excellent - there is ample free parking at the top of the village, and shops, bars and restaurants are a stone's throw away.

Convenient bus service to and from Granada 3 times a day.
In the summer months bus service to the high mountains - base of Mulhacen.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • My husband, 5 month old baby and I used Eva's casita as a base for exploring the Alpujarras for a week in the spring. We loved it.
The accommodation has everything you need - comfortable bed, piping hot water, gas heaters and a well equipped kitchen. Plus a lot of extras which really make it special - great views, lovely decor, information about local walks, cooking basics (like oil, salt etc) and a cosy fire. Our daughter loved having her baths in a big bucket in front of the fire every evening.
I would reiterate what other have said. This is not a house for the faint hearted. The roads down to the house are STEEP. But if mobility is a problem then probably neither Bubion nor the high Alpujarras are a good idea.
We had a Ford Fiesta which we were able to drive down to the apartment. I would not have enjoyed carrying our luggage back up the hill. Also, unless you have an all-terrain buggy, it wont make it up and down the streets.
We loved the restaurants, shops and cafes in Bubion. There's only a few but provide everything you need. I'm already missing our daily cerveza and tapa at El Teide.
Eva was a great host. Responded quickly to questions and was very accommodating.

  • Everything was as I had hoped for and expected. The house is beautiful and peaceful, and the village makes a good base from which to embark on some fine walks. Eva was a gracious host, setting me up quickly, offering lots of information and then leaving me to enjoy the house and it's surroundings. I wish I could have stayed a few days longer.
There are lots of places to eat in Bubion and Pampaneira, but if you are in Capileira, I suggest trying El Corral del Castano. I had an excellent risotto there.

  • This place is perfect, staying more than two days (like we did) is a must. The house is not just authentic but cosy and you have great walks in the Poqueira valley and along the three villages. It is very silent there at night, we loved that! Recommend!

  • this little house is a gem. It is not only located in a beautiful village, inside it is cozy and anything you may possibly need, is there. Wood for a fire, pots and pans for cooking and a very comfortable bed. I fell in love with the house when I arrived and extended my stay with two days.

  • La Casilla is a lovely place to stay. It's rustic with beautiful views and lots of hot water. It's very peaceful and I would definitely stay here again. Eva Love is very helpful and if you get the chance to have a glass of wine with her then you are a lucky person indeed. I stayed for two nights but would have loved to stay longer.

  • Eva's house is beautiful. A real home away from home. It was very well furnished with everything you needed. We loved having breakfast on the little terrace with views over the mountains. We ended up extending our stay because we loved it so much.

  • ¡Excelente!

Buena cama!! Y además admite mascota, así que perfecto.

  • Evas place is the perfect getaway for anyone looking for nature and solitude without it being completely reclusive. I stayed 11 nights in the house working on a book and it was the perfect spot for contemplation and working quietly. From the corner upstairs I had an amazing and inspiring view over the mountains and the sea. The house is lovely decorated and well-equipped, even with a small supply of emergency food, olive oil and spices (something not all houses have). I've often been freezing coming to Spanish houses in the winter but thanks to great gas heater and the lovely fire place I didnt freeze at all.

The house is located at the bottom of Bubión and getting up and down is a good daily exercise. There is plenty of parking at the top of the village. Getting down to the house is nothing for the weak or high-healed. In the surroundings you find some of the best hikes in Southern Spain. The house has plenty of information on hiking and different sites. The village has a couple of restaurants and bars but neighboring villages have more to offer. You can do beautiful walks to the neighboring villages. I warmly recommend people who are looking for something genuine to stay at Eva's place. I for myself hope to be back to do some more writing!
