The Space

This listing is for one of three rooms available in a charming 100 year old home in the West end of downtown St. John's. It overlooks beautiful Victoria Park, which has a playground, walking track, and softball field and is widely known for it's annual Lantern Festival.

THE HOUSE is fully furnished and equipped with a dishwasher, a laundry room, and a wood burning fireplace. There is a patio along the front of the house and in the back there is a larger patio and a garden with an outdoor fire place. Local phone calls and fibre-op TV and internet are provided as well as use of kitchen and laundry facilities (including detergent, stain remover, fabric softener, iron, ironing board, etc.).Guests are responsible for their own food but we provide some basic non-perishable items like peanut butter, jam, margarine, coffee, and tea. Guests are welcome to use the refrigerator and to cook simple meals but since others will be using the kitchen as well it's probably not the best time to try that complicated three hour seafood recipe you found online!

EACH GUEST ROOM is comfortably furnished and has a television with a fibre-op receiver and PVR. Before you arrive your room will be thoroughly cleaned and your bed will be made with fresh, clean sheets. There are both firm and soft pillows in each room as well as extra blankets and a generous supply of clean towels. This room is ideal for two adults, but could accommodate two parents with a child on a double bed and/or a single cot (setup on request).

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the kitchen, living/dining room, laundry room, bathroom, and their bedroom. All spaces except the bedrooms are shared and so it's important to consider if this will work for you before booking your stay. Some guests prefer to spend most of their time in their room, others like to hang out in the common areas, and we are happy with whatever is comfortable for you. We want all of our guests to feel welcome in the shared areas of the home and we encourage people to get to know each other, play a boardgame, enjoy the fireplace, etc. To ensure that these spaces are available for everyone's enjoyment we ask that guests do not use these areas as an extra bedroom or as a fitness centre, yoga studio, or personal office. If you require any of these, just ask and we'll point you towards some great local options meet your needs!

Interaction with Guests

Our interaction with guests varies greatly and is primarily based on our work schedules. I love to meet and interact with new people but I typically work 60 hours a week outside the home and another 10 to 20 hours a week managing our airbnb and responding to inquiries. We tend to be around the house a fair bit on weekends as this is when we make time do laundry, baking, gardening, repairs, etc.

The Neighborhood

Our home is a short one minute walk from the nearest corner store, beer store, Tim Horton's and bus stop. We are just a short (approximately 10 minute) walk from George Street and the unique shops and restaurants of downtown.

Other Things to Note

For guests travelling with children we are equipped with a high chair, a stroller, a booster seat, and lots of other items to make your stay easier. There is a playground right across the street in Victoria park and a great hill for sliding during the winter. Please don't hesitate to contact us before booking and be sure to let us know if there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Excellent time had by (website hidden) very hospitable, accommodation comfortable.
Comfort of staying in a home with my 4 yr old, cannot be compared to having had to stay in a hotel room for the same period of time, plus the bonus of it costing half the price of staying in a hotel room.
Play-ground across the road. Walking distance to downtown St. John's. Parking lot across the road.

  • Samantha and Glenn were phenomenal hosts. This was this first time I had ever used airbnb and it was a great first experience! They both made myself and my boyfriend feel quite at home. The atmosphere was very homey and was in a great location. The house was very clean and organized (you were able to use dishes and utensils) as everything was labelled. I had many questions to ask, and Samantha was always open and willing to answer any questions I had, especially pertaining to many of the tourist areas. Great place to stay and completely recommend it!

  • Sam and Glen were great hosts. I felt completely at home--and the bed was super-comfy. Proximity to downtown was great; an easy 15 minute walk. Also, I had made a mistake with my booking dates and only realized en route. Sam was quick to accommodate me and contacted air bnb to help me sort things out. And affordable! I'd stay there again for sure.

  • Samantha and her partner Glenn were warm and welcoming hosts, full of information about St. John's and the surrounding area. Offered us two rooms for the first couple of nights so that we could have more space. Nice neighborhood, pretty short walk to downtown along the harbor. Great first stop for a Newfoundland adventure, would definitely stay again!

  • Samantha was a very accommodating hostess and her home offered all necessary comforts. My daughter and I enjoyed meeting both Samantha and Glen, and felt very welcome in their home. We recommend Samantha's as an excellent place to stay while visiting St. John's.

  • We had a good stay at Samantha's BnB in St. John's. Our room was great for us and we used the kitchen and dining room as well. The house is well situated close to downtown and there was good parking for our rental car. Samantha and Glen are friendly hosts.

I am a very busy young professional with a full time job as a child and youth care counsellor as well as part time and contractual work as a training facilitator, ABA Therapist, and babysitter. I love to travel and meet new people but my intense work life doesn't leave as much time for fun as I'd like at the moment. When I get a rare weekend off I like to pack up and head to the cabin for a couple of days or head downtown to hear some live music - my boyfriend Glenn is a musician and with our crazy schedules sometimes it's the only way for us to see each other on a Friday or Saturday night!
