A large, open concept, bright and recently renovated basement apartment consisting of a kitchen area, lounge area and a double sized bed with a memory foam mattress, a small dresser and an armoire.
The kitchen has a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee makers (electric, French press and drip), electric kettle and hot pot. There is also a cafe table and chairs.
The lounge area has a humongous desk containing a large selection of local travel info, an easy chair, a coffee table and a couch that converts into a single bed. There is a tv with a digial convertor box (about 20 or so channels) and a dvd player with a small selection of dvds. There is also free wifi.
The bathroom has a large shower and vanity, and of course, a toilet.
The entire space is private, has a private entrance, and is not cluttered with other peoples possessions- the armoire and dresser drawers are empty.
Can't be beat for access to downtown Portland, the Oregon Convention Center, and the eastside Belmont and Hawthorne neighborhoods. Portland's 28th street restaurant row is right around the corner, and three blocks away there is a Whole Foods and a very cool second run movie theater.
I allow dogs on a case by case basis. Please contact me first before booking if you're traveling with a dog. There is a small cleaning fee.
The number 19, 20, and 12 bus lines are all close by and will take you downtown and to the airport. If you are driving there is always on street parking nearby. There is an Enterprise car rental lot on Sandy approximately three blocks away and six zipcars within a mile.
No smoking of any kind is allowed in the apartment or on the premises. The entry door to the apartment has an electronic combination lock. I'll give you the combination before you arrive. Please make sure the door is locked before you leave and after you enter the house.
From Aug 1 - Sep 30, 2015 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
Everything about this experience was very positive. Apartment was clean, private, comfortable, and -- best of all -- in a great location and near public transport. Dan provided much useful information about the neighborhood and was prompt and friendly with answers. We would absolutely rent from him again.
Dan's place was delightful! It was clean & neat, close to shopping, a variety of restaurants, and right in the middle of a great neighborhood. Dan made sure we had all the information we needed prior to our arrival & stayed in touch during our time there. There was plenty of Portland info in the room, with maps & guides. A great place. We would definitely stay there again!
Dan's apartment was great for exploring Portland over a long weekend. His neighborhood is central to many spots and incredibly close to some amazing restaurants and local spots w/o being touristy. Dan was easy to communicate with and really helpful when we arrived late at night. The listing itself is clean and well-decorated (and cool - important given the heat wave). Thanks for a great stay!
The room experience was as advertised. Very roomy and spacious. Fully furnished with a comfortable bed and couch. Even had a fridge which came in handy in the warm days. I also liked the artistic decor. My only complaint would be there was quite a bit of spiders but I think it comes with the territory in Oregon's naturally foresty area.
Thanks Dan! Your place was comfortable and just as advertised. We really appreciated all the little things you'd done to make us feel welcome. Our trip to Portland was wonderful and your place was a big part of that.
Thank you very much!

Dan was always prompt and helpful in responding to our email or text messages. He met us at the house, showed us around the basement suite and explained things. The suite is spacious and comfortable. The bed placement (shown clearly in photographs) was difficult for us since we are older; one person has to climb over the other to get in and out of bed and the column makes getting out of bed an exercise in flexibility for us older folks. The location is great.
Dan (and Ruby! :) were at home to greet me when I arrived, gave me easy instructions for the back door lock, information about the space, and answered all my questions.
The apartment was absolutely perfect for my time in Portland. Large, very clean and homey, and had everything I'd need for my stay. Dan's house is extremely close (3-5 minute walk) to numerous great restaurants and coffee shops just down the street (Kern's Kitchen is fantastic). The neighborhood is filled with colorful old homes, trees, steps away from a park, and near many bus stops to make getting around Portland a breeze. Very easy access to and from the airport using TriMet. I felt extremely safe and had a wonderful time using Dan for my travel housing. Absolutely would recommend.

About the Host, Dan
I'm originally from Chicago and have lived in Portland for about eight years. I've always had a passion for travel and have been lucky enough to visit about 40 countries, most recently Vietnam, Cambodia and Taiwan. Closer to home, funky, big city neighborhoods are my favorite places to explore. The natural beauty and mild climate are what drew me to the Pacific NW, but I return often to Chicago where I maintain business interests.
