We felt very well taken care of by Frank. The moment we walked in, after a long and exhausting journey from Costa Rica, he understood how to make us feel comfortable. We really liked that the Inn is located amongst locals up the hill. We spent a very laid back and chilled time and can thus recommend anyone to stay there.
Frank was our host. This lodging is for adventuresome folks! The setting in the forest provided a bird (and rooster!) soundtrack to our stay. Visitors should expect fans but not air conditioning; but the evenings cool down. Frank addressed all our questions and needs - down to details on the best places to have dinner and who to hire for a boat expedition. Access to a guest refrigerator was great for snacks and cool drinks. All in all one of the most unique places I have stayed at.
We (couple) had 3 wonderful nights in a beautiful, very clean room. Relaxed and quiet atmosphere in the room with a nice view over a part of the Island of Bastimentos. Frank gave us valuable informations about the island and about the best restaurants. (We especially recommend "Caribbean View"). As a kind of exklusive service, Frank even washed and dried a trouser, which otherwise wouldn't have been dried until our departure. This was the only negative part of our stay: it was raining too much, therefore the "way" to Wizard Beach was only mud - too dangerous to go there in our opinion. We did it as we couldn't return early enough. Beyond that I really recommend Free Spirit Inn and its host Frank.
This place is awesome. Our favorite so far in Panama. We loved staying on Bastimentos Island as opposed to Bocas town, smaller, quieter, even cleaner. Free Spirit Inn is in Old Bank, about 7-8 minutes walk from the water taxis, up the hill with a nice view of the bay. The walk is paved, so it's possible to roll up one's luggage. Once you enter the gate, a sweet relaxed vibe greets you. We loved the architecture, done in good taste and imagination. Our room (the yellow room) was small but comfortable, we could see the sea from our bed. We spent a lot of time downstairs in the communal kitchen with our fellow travellers. I left the best part of our experience of staying at Free Spirit Inn to the end: our host. Calvin was away, we never got to meet him, so our host was Frank, who was just great. Happy, funny, positive person, helpful and playful, he served us nice breakfasts, suggested activities, restaurants etc. We went on the bat cave tour at his suggestion and it was an unforgettable experience. We wish we could have stayed longer. One suggestion, bring earplugs, the roosters start early.

About the Host, Calvin
After years of the Corporate American life, I wanted to realize my dream of being in a peaceful world and having time and a place to relax and enjoy the gifts of Earth and Nature. My idea was to create a B & B Resort/Retreat where others could also find the comfort and solace that seems these days to be so lacking.
After traveling and living around most of the world ( lived in Denmark / Sweden /
Germany / Italy / Israel / Turkey / England / Cyprus / Russia /Egypt /Hawaii and travel to over 50 countries worldwide . I settled for now in the Caribbean coast of
Bocas del Toro Panama, where the views are magnificent, the weather pleasant, and the local people are happy and friendly. A great place for surfing, snorkeling,
and other water sports.plus ZipLine adventure
