On the positive side, Fiona responded quickly to a last minute Friday inquiry for a place to stay for the weekend. She offered up her Madison Historic Riverfront Farm and said it wasn't fancy but it would be clean and ready for our stay. We spoke a couple times that evening on our way down to the property and she was easily reached.
From there our experience turned sour. When we arrived the property was extremely dusty and it was clear it hadn't been used in some time. The toilet had accumulated a mildew line from not being flushed in ages. We decided to make the best of it, but when we pulled back the blankets on the beds to go to sleep we discovered they were infested with carpet beetles. Each of the four beds had beetles tucked into every layer of the bedding. We immediately contacted Fiona, providing pictures, but she did not respond. We scrambled and took advantage of no-shows at a nearby hotel and left the property. We then followed up with a courteous e-mail to Fiona through the site, reiterating the problem, but she never responded. All communication from her ceased.
Air BnB was nice enough to refund our money, but I'm most disappointed that Fiona never bothered to apologize. A simple "I'm sorry" goes a long way.
