The apartments (we rented two for our party of 8) were absolutely beautiful. They are perfectly maintained, VERY clean, well-appointed, and in the historic (minuscule) walled town (which is pretty cool). The rooms have a great view of the square, church, and lovely clock tower. It's a perfect medieval experience.
1. The town is TINY, as mentioned.
If you're looking for nightlife, this isn't the place to stay.
2. The clock bell is LOUD.
He provides earplugs for this exact reason (we suspect), and that helps.
The castle was amazing, a real charming venue. The rooms had everything you needed and were really clean and well decorated. It's easy to get to by car, and we took a trip to cinque , Lucca and Florence, not too long a drive away.
The hosts were friendly and informative.
There is a church bell which rings every 30 minutes into the night. I wasn't affected by it but light sleepers might be.
Overall a fantastic stay.
we were in another place of paolo, very nice place at old village (but the church bells are very close too).
the place was clean, good looking and comfortable
This apartment is in an old medieval fortress that has been beautifully renovated inside. The location is just magical we enjoyed beautiful meals in the locality, exploring the town and other castles near by and evenings just sitting in the square watching the local children play.
The only trouble we had was finding the place, it does not show on a GPS map and we had to stop and ask locals, most of whom can no clue where it was. Eventually a petrol station owner found it on an old paper map and was kind enough to take us there - it is inside the Filletto, (fortress). Once we arrived we couldn't get hold of Paolo and had all the neighbors and kids out looking for him, who found out he was out for dinner. Eventually about 3 hours later after enjoying a wonderful meal in the restaurant in the square Paolos wife arrived with the key. They don't speak any English but some other guests were happy to translate. ... was a fun insight as to how things operate in Italy. We had a marvelous stay and would definitely go back.
Great apartment, in a really cool location!
Paolo was good at communication, although does not speak English so it was a bit challenging. The apartment is a great place with no breakfast included and sometimes finding food locally was interesting. The location was beautiful and people were all very friendly and helpful. The pizzeria at the "castle" was amazing! Very out of the way and if you are looking for being basically in the middle of nowhere this is what you are looking for. Somewhat rustic in the overall feel, the apartment inside was warm and inviting. Thank you for arranging for pickup, Paolo.
Paolo's apartment was amazing. It's a beautifully renovated modern haven amongst a medieval setting of Filetto, a tiny fortified hamlet without cars near Villafranca in Lunigiana. In this part of Tuscany, church bells still ring on the half hour and life slows down. People stop to say "ciao" and chat and the food and wine are out of this world. Paolo and Rosanna both made us feel very welcome and were very accommodating. We rode bicycles through out the village and surrounding postcard-like countryside.
We liked the apartment so much, we changed our travel plans and stayed an extra night!
Highly recommended for a quiet, romantic getaway or a family of 4.
