About this listing
Not fancy but comfy private accommodation in my 1889 Victorian home.
Welcome to my 1889 Queen Anne Victorian house which is still a work-in-progress but (I think) a great home nevertheless. I'm offering my 2nd floor parlour as a guest room, comfortably fitted out with a queen-size bed, wardrobe, dresser, work desk, IKEA chaise, cube fridge + microwave and TV w/DVD player and ROKU box (sorry, no cable TV but on master antenna system for local channels). House offers shared bathroom, kitchen, sunspace/dining room, living room and TV room. Broadband WiFi (average 20-25 mbps) and off-street parking also available. Breakfast items usually on offer include coffee, tea, yoghurts, bananas, oranges, cereals + milk, toast + jams and OJ. House is close (walkable 10-15 mins) to train/bus station and downtown venues (15-20 mins) as well as the West End; West Hartford (4 miles west) is best reached by bus or car. Local bus service is available right outside the front door ((URL HIDDEN) Route #76) and CTFastrak service is just a block away. There's also local (hourly) bus service from the airport (Route #30X) to downtown ($1.50 exact change) with an easy transfer (free upon request) to my neighborhood bus; Uber provides service from the airport and around town, as well. The household is gay-friendly and everyone is welcomed for a night or longer stay. See special pricing by the week and month.
Guests have access to the main (ground) floor of the house as they wish. For extended visits the sunroom makes a nice place to enjoy the day reading and relaxing and looking at the yard and gardens. For any extended stays, use of the basement laundry facilities can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
I generally enjoy meeting and chatting with my guests which is why I like to serve breakfast in the sunroom. However, if you really prefer your privacy I can always set out breakfast items in the kitchen which can be taken to the guest room for your private consumption.
UBER operates in the Greater Hartford area. Local bus service (CT Transit, one-way fare = $1.50) information can be (EMAIL HIDDEN) A system-wide map is there, as well as detailed maps and all schedules for local routes for Hartford and out to the suburbs. My neighborhood service (Route #76) runs from 6AM - 11PM (various frequencies throughout the day). CTFastrak also runs a loop shuttle a block from the house to the neighborhood transfer station for this regional express service. There's a downtown loop shuttle - the Dash bus - which is free and serves all the hotels, the Convention Center and the bus/train station. The bus/train station is serviced by AMTRAK, Peter Pan and Greyhound (but not Megabus which stops on Morgan Street). The Bradley Flyer (Route #30X) runs from the bus/train station to Bradley Airport on an hourly basis. My house is within a mile of the bus/train station so is an easy walk or, if my schedule permits, a convenient pick-up point to meet you and get you to the house.
I share my house with 1-2 other resident housemates so any guests would be sharing common space with up to 3 others of us living in the house. However, the guest room is a private room. Quiet time is 10PM - 7AM. There's no smoking in the house but smokers are welcome to go outdoors on the front and back porches as necessary. No pets. I can accommodate 1 car parked in the backyard driveway. Breakfasts can be arranged ahead of time so I can have the basics available for your eating pleasure and fresh coffee ready when you are.
