Not fancy but comfy private accommodation in my 1889 Victorian home.
Welcome to my 1889 Queen Anne Victorian house which is still a work-in-progress but (I think) a great home nevertheless. I'm offering my 2nd floor parlour as a guest room, comfortably fitted out with a double bed, wardrobe, dresser, work desk, IKEA chaise, cube fridge and TV w/DVD player and ROKU box (sorry, no cable TV but on master antenna system for local channels). House offers shared bathroom, kitchen, sunspace/dining room, living room and TV room. Broadband WiFi (average 8-10 mbps) and off-street parking also available. Breakfast items usually on offer include coffee, tea, yoghurts, bananas, oranges, cereals and milk, toast, OJ and eggs (which you can prepare as you like). House is close (walkable 10-15 mins) to train/bus station and downtown venues (15-20 mins) as well as the West End; West Hartford (4 miles west) is best reached by bus or car. Local bus service is available right outside the front door ((website hidden), Route #76). There's also local (hourly) bus service from the airport (Route #30X) to downtown with an easy transfer to my neighborhood bus. The household is gay-friendly and everyone is welcomed for a night or longer stay. See special pricing by the week and month.
Guests have access to the main (ground) floor of the house as they wish. For extended visits the sunroom makes a nice place to enjoy the day reading and relaxing and looking at the yard and gardens. For any extended stays, use of the basement laundry facilities can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
I generally enjoy meeting and chatting with my guests which is why I like to serve breakfast in the sunroom. However, if you really prefer your privacy I can always set out breakfast items in the kitchen which can be taken to the guest room for your private consumption.
Local bus service (CT Transit) information can be (email hidden). A system-wide map is there, as well as detailed maps and all schedules for local routes for Hartford and out to the suburbs. My neighborhood service (Route #76) runs from 6AM - 11PM (various frequencies throughout the day). There's a downtown loop shuttle - the Dash shuttle - which is free and serves all the hotels, the Convention Center and the bus/train station. The bus/train station is serviced by AMTRAK, Peter Pan and Greyhound (but not Megabus which stops at the Marriott/Convention Center). The Bradley Flyer (Route #30X) runs from the bus/train station to Bradley Airport on an hourly basis. My house is within a mile of the bus/train station so is an easy walk or, if my schedule permits, a convenient pick-up point to meet you and get you to the house.
I share my house with 1-2 other resident housemates so any guests would be sharing common space with up to 3 others of us living in the house. However, the guest room is a private room. Quiet time is 10PM - 7AM. There's no smoking in the house but smokers are welcome to go outdoors on the front and back porches as necessary. No pets. I can accommodate 1 car parked in the backyard driveway. Breakfasts can be arranged ahead of time although I can't promise that I'll be cooking; I can have the basics available for your eating pleasure.
Jonathan was a terrific host! He was extremely nice and helpful: he picked us up at the bus station and drove us back at the end of our stay, which really meant a lot to us since we were travelling with a lot of luggage. In the evening, we had a lovely conversation over wine.
The location is great; the Mark Twain House and Museum is within walking distance. The house is clean and cozy; the room in which we ate breakfast was amazing, and our room was perfect as well (there were even little goodies waiting for us on the pillows), and oh, the breakfast - he prepared everything with such care, made us tea and coffee, and even packed a bag of homemade cookies for us. We can't recommend this place highly enough!
Jonathan was the perfect host. His place was cozy and very comfortable. It's also close to downtown Hartford and West Hartford Center which has tons of shopping and fabulous restaurants. He went above and beyond by getting up every morning and providing coffee and a light breakfast. We would absolutely stay here again.
Jonathan greeted me at the door when I arrived to his place. After my 5pm arrival time turned into my 10pm arrival time, I was glad to see him at the door welcoming me and showing me to my cozy room. The room was just as expected but even better. It was an easy and comfortable stay. Jonathan was nice to talk to and really helped me feel at home. I'd highly recommend this stay for anyone coming to the area.
My friend and I stayed one night in Hartford before heading down to NYC. Even though our stay was very short, Jonathan did everything possible to make it perfect: picked us up at the train station, prepared dinner for us, as well as breakfast in the morning, and then gave us a drive back to the station. One couldn't wish for a better experience.
The house itself is located in what seemed like a quiet neighbourhood, close to downtown Hartford. It is in the process of being renovated, so it may not look like much, but it sure felt cosy. Jonathan's friendliness sure lightens up the place.
Jonathan was a wonderful host. He is very kind and open in sharing his home with others. He provided a variety of items for breakfast, and the room was exactly as described and had everything I needed for my 3-night stay.
The safety of the neighborhood did concern me a bit, and I was not comfortable walking downtown by myself at night.
Overall, Jonathan is very personable, and it was a pleasure talking to him and spending time in his home while I attended an event at the convention center.
I had a really lovely stay at Jonathan's house. Both Jonathan and his housemate were kind and accommodating. The house is beautiful and filled with an interesting art collection. I loved having breakfast in the sun room. I walked to downtown Hartford everyday and I found it a refreshing break from the hotel where I was attending training.
Jonathan was a kind and wonderful host, even though I arrived much later than I originally thought that I would. My room was as advertised in the picture, and was clean and comfortable. There was a robe on the door for me and fresh water in the room.
The house itself is an interesting work in progress with old stained glass, some unfinished walls, interesting things all around on a large deck out back that looks out on a beautiful yard.
We had coffee out there in the morning and Jonathan helped me determine a better route to drive as I embarked further on my journey north. I would definitely stay there again.
I'm a 62yo GWM, living and working (self-employed) in Hartford for over 30 years. I enjoy walking, hiking, biking, gardening, theatre, movies and traveling (including an annual long-distance walking trip in the UK every year) - and hosting AirBnB guests! Looking forward to your visit.
