We were a little nervous since it was our first AirBNB experience. However, Marlyne's friendly, and down-to-earth demeanor made us feel welcome and ease our concerns - even prior to arriving (via email and text). She was a pleasure to meet and easily someone we would hang out with! She was a great host even prior to arriving, and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay.
The place was awesome, quiet, and just as described in her listing. We fell in love with it and the area. We are thinking of coming back to Montreal and when we do, we will definitely stay here again!
Merci beacoup Marlyne!
The reservation was canceled 15 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Disappointing experience! Guests beware!
I am a chef and traveled to Montreal for five days of work. I saw this rental space on airbnb and thought it would be perfect based on its location and sparkling bright kitchen. However, when I arrived to the apartment, I was beyond surprised to discover that the spaced looked nothing like the clean and tidy pictures used in the advertisement. In fact, it looked as if the place were abandoned only moments before my arrival. The refrigerator was filled with rotting food that produced a foul odor, the kitchen was dark and cluttered, there was a giant hole in the couch (which the host informed me of the day of my arrival) and light bulbs were missing in the bathroom fixture. This is not what I expected based on the photo or description.
Hours after checking out of the apartment, I was alarmed to receive and email from the host requesting $250 for reasons beyond comprehension. The false claims made by the host were ludicrous and luckily airbnb agreed. In a matter of 48 hours the matter was resolved and the issue of $250 was dropped.
This experience has not swayed me away from using airbnb in the future. What I learned is that taking photos of the space upon arrival and upon departing is priceless - the photo evidence of the space is what helped in my fight against the false claims.
''Under our Terms and Conditions, we are only able to compensate for the actual cash value (i.e. fair market value), of any physical damages that may occur. This means that your noise claim cannot be compensated under a damage claim, nor can an extra guest claim. Furthermore, there is unfortunately no way to prove that your guest had extra people stay.'' That is the answer Airbnb gave me when I claimed that there was evidence of a party and noise all weekend. I had complains from my neighbors, something that never happened in 3 years doing Airbnb. Also, I had personal belongings missing, things that obviously are hard to prove. My claims were not ''ludicrous'' they were fair considering I had to cancel the next guests because I was still in chock that someone could have used my apartment for a cooking show-party. Stephanie says that the place looked abandoned! I have two positive reviews for the same month! If one missing light bulb makes my apartment shitty, then most people would not be doing Airbnb.
You know its great when you meet someone and immediately you know she is a friend. This the feeling you get when meeting Marlyne. When she said "Mi casa es su casa" she meant it. The same warm feeling is reflected in her home. Location is amazing (specially if you are gay!! It is right in the heart of the Village, and all the action off course, but in a quiet street and just far out of all the nice, but real close to all the action you don't have to go far at all! For us it was in one word nothing short of PERFECT!!!
Marlyne made me feel very welcome, even leaving a nice card with her contact information on the table. The neighborhood had lots of great places to eat and explore. The apartment was generally clean and comfortable.
Marlyne was just delightful and even let us check in a little early. The apartment is quite comfortable and very close to everything 'village', and to two metro stops to access everything else.
Requests where filled promptly and with good humor, and the washer and dryer were a real bonus. The kitchen is quite servicable and I was able to do some cooking so as not to be eating out for every meal, saving valuable dollars.
I should say this is very much a functional residence, with no available closet of drawer space, so we primarily lived out of our bags, although there were some handy hooks in the washer/bathroom.
I would recommend this location, it is indeed 'big, clean and central!'

I love meeting new people and sharing ideas and opinions. Learning about new cultures is something I really enjoy and it's mostly why I want to host people from around the world. Respect is a very important value for me especially when travelling.
