  • We lived in Thiagos home for one week. The whole family was so friendly and helpful. The view from the top is just great and you can see nearly all the sights of Rio and the favela life. Thank you for this great experience and we would definitely come back here if we stay in Rio again!

  • We never actually met Thiago, but we had a great stay at his place anyway as his mother took very good care of us. The place was just as described and we really enjoyed staying in a non-touristy neighbourhood.

I would definitely stay here again if I ever visit Rio again!

  • An amazing experience and a great place to stay. Not your usual Zona Sul neighborhood but if you want to get off the beaten track and stay in a real Rio "Community" this is it. My only advice is to make firm plans with Thiago before you arrive, it is very difficult to find his place by yourself for the first time.

  • We've had a great experience in Rio. This is a typical Brazilian place lying in a real Rio neighbour. If you want to go off the beaten track, this is your place.

  • The room and surroundings were as described, pretty clean and decent. Thiago's family were very friendly and it was nice with some barbecue on the top roof. The neighborhood was also as described, safe and lively. I am glad to have chosen to stay in the house of Thiago compared to an ordinary hotel. A few things to notice is that there is a bus leaving from the international airport, that stops close to the metro station at Copacabana approximately 1.5 km from Thiago's house (takes approximately 60 min). The bus leaves again from Av. Prca. Isabel to the international airport. Cost is Real 13.00 each way. It runs every 30 min or so. Of good thing to do in Rio besides hanging out on the beach: A hiking trip from Parque Lage to the Corcovado/Christ figure (takes 2 hours) was very nice. The Botanic garden was also nice.

  • I have spend 4 nights in Rio de Janeiro at Thiago's place. The pictures are very accurate, but they cannot capture the full reality of the amazing view you get from the house. Also, looking at the Christ on top of the Corcovado by the window while showering reminded me instantly of how lucky I was to be there.

Thiago's family has been very helpful all along. His sister and his father went to welcome me at the bottom of the stairs, his mother provided delicious breakfasts and helped me with the washing machine, and his father spent a lot of time with me talking about the neighborhood, its history, its evolution, and the work being done by the state to ease the integration of the community into the overall city.

Every people I have interacted with, from teens to old people, were very friendly and always tried to help. I have never once felt unsafe or uncomfortable in this lively neighbourhood. I liked passing by the hairdressers working in the street on the way to Thiago's house, or watch the local residents having a fresh drink in the small bars after a hot day.

I don't know exactly when I will return to Rio de Janeiro, but as soon as I have the dates, I know that this place is the one I will look up first!

  • Best view in Rio de Janeiro located in an extremely safe, warm and fun place. The apartment is located in the last house up on the top of this comunidade and the view over Copacabana is stunning.

The room is clean and spacy with fresh towels and sheets. Very basic but with a rooftop terrace and hammocks with the view of the beach and Cristo - you don't really want anything else.

A great breakfast served every morning with fresh fruits, bread, cheese and coffee/tea was a very nice service from Thiagos family.

Thiago and his family are very charming and helpful and they are all involved in a very facsinating project that you will get to learn more about if you are interested. You will get to meet very friendly people around in the quartier - and there are shops, hairdressers and bars up on this hill.

I would definately recommend anyone who wants to stay somewhere with great value for money, closeness to the beach and to the sky.

  • Thiago and his family are a great host. The day starts with a delicious breakfast with changing fresh fruits from his mother and an awesome view from the balkony, during the day the beach is just a 10min walk away and at night the view is even more stunning. The area is bit dodge at first sight, but at the second look you will discover a lot of friendly and interesting people. Never felt unsafe.

  • Thiago was a fantastic host! nothing was to much trouble for him! if we needed anything and we could not see him all we had to do was give him a txt and there would be a note under the door of our room with details of how to get to places and do activities! will be 100 percent be back next year! he was very friendly.his mother made great brekkie and his dad was also very friendly!
Great experience all in all, felt very safe around the neighbourhood! make sure you catch a motorbike taxi to the top of the hill! great experince!! great views from the balcony! Thiago you are amaizing!! Ben and Dan

  • My friend and I loved staying at Thiago's house. The place is very clean, comfortable, and safe. There's a small hill to walk, but it was a great mini cardio for us :) The people at the favela were very friendly to us...all you have to say is "bom dia" and they will welcome you. Thiago and his family are super warm, friendly, and hospitable...we felt right at home. We were invited to their BBQ on the weekend, and had a lovely time meeting his family and friends. I did not get to meet Barack Obama (the kitty...hahaha) because he ran away. I highly recommend Thiago's place! For us, it wasn't just a place to sleep, but a cultural experience :)
