Guest access

If you enjoy animals you will love hanging out with our milking goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, and rabbits as well as our two loving dogs and cats. You are welcome to come along for morning or evening activities. These include but are certainly not limited to feeding the animals, milking the goats, making cheese, harvesting fruit, veggies or mac nuts. Please remember this is a working farm so there will be farm noises (i.e. roosters in the morning) and activity around.

Interaction with guests

We are more then happy to interact with guests and give recommendations and answer questions. We are also happy to give you your space as well.

Getting around

The public transportation is poor here. The bus only loops the island on the main highway once or twice a day, so having a car is pretty essential for exploring and getting to the farm. Hitchhiking is not uncommon, but not ideal for reaching less traveled spots and getting about in a timely fashion, so we don't recommend it as your sole means of transportation.

Steve and Melinda's place was great- just as described. Unfortunately, I was not around much so I didn't have the chance to meet them but I did meet their adorable cats and some lovely other guests who were staying in the house. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

The location was amazing- great sleeping weather, close to amazing snorkeling and lovely fruits and flowers everywhere. I already want to return! Steve and Melinda welcomed us for our seven day stay. The accommodations were great, the bedroom was spacious and the house had lovely views over looking the land and ocean. We love to snorkel and this place is located near some of the best snorkeling on the Big Island at Two Step and Kealakekua Bay. It is a drive to Kona, so if you want to be in the heart of restaurants and shopping look elsewhere. We did not participate in the offerings, but did purchase fruit and raw macadamia nuts from the farm which were amazing. The outdoor shower is wonderful and it was incredible to be so close to fruit trees and flowering plants. It's great sleeping weather, but be prepared for cool nights and mornings in the winter. Steve and Melinda had put together a binder in each room with recommendations of regional activities, restaurants, farmer's markets and we found this quite helpful. They provided beach towels and had some snorkel equipment available for guests.

Steve and Melinda's place is magical. We loved the farm, the location, the incredibly warm hospitality of Steve, the lovely guests sharing the other rooms when we were there and the beauty all around. It is a special place for those who enjoy a different kind of touristic experience of real Hawaii... the jamboticama jam is awesome, but unfortunately TSA confiscated our jars when we were leaving. We highly recommend this place!! :)

This was a great place to stay all the way around. I really appreciated the warm creative aesthetic and the deck with its view. We only had 3 nights there, which felt short because after being out all day, you wanted to be there too. They were very nice people who offered help and services like massage homeade jam fresh eggs etc. The space is very clean and organized too. I would highly recommend it.

Wonderful place, highly recommended. The photos tell only part of the story. The guest house is stunningly beautiful with a panoramic view of the hills below and a broad expanse of ocean coastline. We stayed for two nights in the King room and spent an afternoon relaxing on the balcony. One end has a huge daybed with a view and the other end a dining table with a view. The house interior is lovely as well, very spacious. We enjoyed walking around the farm, talking with Melinda and Steve about their activities and their vision for this beautiful place, and picking fruit from the trees... oh, and the outdoor shower. The location is perfect for visiting the Place of Refuge national historic park and Two Step for snorkeling. Don't miss the Painted Church and gardens on the way down to the coast!

Honaunau Farm Wellness Retreat is a place where we can engage with people and share in the abundance of a co-creative conscious lifestyle. We love meeting people from all over the world right here on the land we call home. We enjoy engaging conversation about travel, spirituality, holistic living, healthy food and current affairs. We find people who use airbnb to be great guests and it is a pleasure to be a host in Hawaii because we have the opportunity to extend the magic and beauty of the island to all of them in unique ways.
