I am normally in the neighborhood during guest's stay.

Jo Ann George's "red cottage" was a feast for the eyes and a restorative to the heart. My mother, sister, and I spent four nights in the cottage as we toured Sonoma and Napa to celebrate my mother's seventh birthday, and we couldn't have asked for a more cheery and comfortable place to stay. When we first walked in, we were welcomed by a basket of local strawberries, left for us by Jo Ann herself. The cottage is clean and airy, with a big, well-stocked kitchen for cooking in; a large, inviting patio for sipping wine outside; and three comfortable bedrooms for recuperating after a day of wine (website hidden) Ann's cottage is also a walkable distance from the historic center of Petaluma, where we found two restaurants we loved: Sugo Trattoria (for homemade pasta) and the Wild Goat Bistro (for local-seasonal fare). While the neighborhood around Jo Ann's street is a bit industrial, it's clear that Petaluma is undergoing a Renaissance, and many old warehouses are being reclaimed as art galleries, shops, and restaurants. If you're looking for reasonably priced and private accommodations with easy access to wine country, The Red Cottage is a must!

We LOVED our first stay here at the Red Cottage. Everything was just perfect for our group of five. However, trying to book our second stay for just a few short months later, Jo Ann attempted to raise her rates on us without disclosing that's what she was indeed attempting to do. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she's probably not tech savvy with the site, but she first gave the impression that the price difference was somehow an AirBnB booking error and not her raising the prices on us. Finally she did admit that the price had indeed gone up (about $500 for our exact same stay) but then we were quoted a price that didn't include all the fees, so it was still another $100+ on top of that.
In the end it was waaaaaay more trouble (for all of us I'm sure - both hosts and guests) than it needed to be - especially not to have ended up with a great place to stay at the end of it all. : (
I will say this house is to-the-nines. It's a gem. Clearly a work of love. The host, Jo Ann, is an artist and always was great with us for our initial rental. But sadly the *amazingness* of our original stay has been overshadowed by this terrible experience trying to book again.
Having been an AirBnB guest and host countless times myself, I could never imagine misleading a group in the way we were. I doubt it was intentional but I felt surprised and strung around with all the confusion of the price changes and the back and forth through unclear communications for over a month, both on AirBnB and off.
I still would recommend staying here - but just be forewarned on any price disclosures.
The little red house was perfect! Tons of room, great location and vary clean. My family had a great time!!!
The Red Cottage was a wonderful place to stay and JoAnn was a wonderful host. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We were met at the door with homemade cookies and made to feel very welcome. We would certainly recommend staying here and would definitely return.
I grew up in Woodside, Ca. I have a passion for color and design. I love fixing up houses and have done this all of my life. I also owned a Marimekko fabric store in Palo Alto, Ca. My last career was staging homes for realtors. And there's one more thing...I love food. Yes, I'm a foodie. So please come and visit. I think you will really enjoy The Red Cottage as it is a combination of all of my talents.
