An amazing get away that feels like the country while being close to the city. The quaint little home is surrounded on 2 sides by an incredible spring fed pod, nature activities, and nurturing quietude. Relax, and refresh in sustainability!
Located on Johns Island, which is 8.6 miles from Downtown Charleston, SC & 23 mins from Kiawah Island & Beach, this is like a private cabin campground getaway :) Set in the rural back yard and farmlands of Charleston, this 8.5 acres is completely set up for nature walks in the woods, a swimming hole complete with a zip line into the water, large garden, picnic tables, fire pit, kayaks and boats for enjoying the nearly 4 acres of spring fed ponds.
The building has a small and fully functional kitchen, a toilet, outdoor shower, dining space & den, a lovely screened porch & fantastic views of the water. The upstairs, is only accessible by romantic and fun ATTIC STYLE LADDER, and has a double bed, drawers and clothing rack. We have lots of kid and family games stocked in the cupboard, a TV and DVD player that can be plugged in, available signal for WiFi, as well as a pull out couch for extra sleeping arrangements.
We are a 5 minute car ride from the grocery and local Johns Island restaurants, and Chilsolm Rd. to which we are adjacent, is a regular local bike riders route. Our land is truly unique, and has a truly great outdoor space for enjoying the gorgeous Charelston weather. Come and enjoy this Nature Lover's Paradise!
kayaking, woods, swimming, outdoor shower, great restaurants, - many people say it feels like a secluded mountain get away, but close to town and in the low-country :)
Interaction with Guests
we are here on the property too, but there's a whole 8.5 acres to enjoy, and the space feels very private, while also being part of a community.
Other Things to Note
we are looking to have the hot tub set up very very soon for the winter months :) yessss!!!
Polite. Respect all things and return them to their place. Leave all personal items be please. Deal with our dogs kindly and as explained. Thank you.
I never did meet Willis, but Jeff was there to greet us. The house was exactly as described, full of character and amenities. The property was lovely and serene, and my son enjoyed the visits from the dogs. My son had fun with the boats in the water, even though the temps were chilly, it felt like spring to us (being from northern MN). The only thing I missed was hot water, I knew the shower was outside, but hot water would have made it bearable. We didn't mind too much though, we were in camping mode. Thanks Willis and Jeff!
Chelsea! you didn't have hot water?? darlin, we have great HOT water! Maybe the pilot light blew out. oh i am so sorry! please everyone, do not hesitate to ask me if something seems off. If I am not home, there are several of us here to support you and there is great HOT water :o) so sorry about that!
I had an amazing stay at Willis' loft. It was the perfect getaway for me to spend time outside and enjoy some alone time. The loft was absolutely adorable, clean and had all of the amenities I needed for a great experience. I would love to stay again if I revisit the area. Thanks Willis!
Willis' loft could not have been more inviting and homey. We felt immediately and home and said often during our five-day stay how we'd like to have a place much like that one day. We felt more like we were staying in the home of a good friend rather than a stranger. It was perfect for a couple but we plan to return with our two young children in the future. Willis was away until the day we left so we didn't get to interact much with her, but she made sure to have the loft clean and equipped with fresh, clean towels. We made use of the small but efficient kitchen, the kayaks, and floating dock. The outdoor shower was just fine for the weather (60s during the day and 40s at night), the bed was comfortable, and we had plenty of privacy. Dogs on the premises were very friendly and pleasant. We attempted to use the pizza oven on our last night but didn't get instructions from Willis so it didn't work out so well. Don't make the same mistake we made! It was still a fun nighttime experience, overall. Johns Island is a wonderful place to stay when visiting the Charleston area. It's equally accessible to the city and beach (we spent a day beach combing at Kiawah Island). This place is the perfect place to stay for anyone visiting Charleston (though transportation is necessary) seeking something more off the beaten path.
My sister and I stayed here for three nights, and we were absolutely charmed. We were coming to visit Charleston, and the drive into town was easy, but we also loved the peace and natural beauty of the loft and Johns Island. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever lucky enough to make it back.
We had a mixed experience at Willis's house, but only because we brought our dog. The house itself is lovely, and peaceful, and there is everything you need to rest, cook, enjoy the waterfront view from the screened-in porch in cooler weather. The location is convenient to downtown Charleston. Willis is a generous and friendly host. But we cannot recommend the place if you are traveling with a pet: Willis did her best to manage her aggressive dog, but he got out off leash more than once, and on one of those occasions he attacked and wounded our small dog. It was a scary and difficult experience. Willis was kind and gracious in helping us get immediate veterinary care, but the situation was clearly dangerous for a visiting strange dog. If you don't have pets, you'll love this place and enjoy its charms and peacefulness; both their dogs seem fine with people and children.
I am so glad to hear that Wallace is doing well :) We are working on fencing in the yard around the Nature Lover's Loft. Communication is key for when the dogs are let out, and I apologize deeply for the situation that your little one experienced. Being true animal lovers is a big responsibility and we are continuing the work of what it means to manage and host differing beings.
We enjoyed our stay and especially liked the friendly atmosphere of the place. As promised the environment was cozy, quiet and made us feel close to nature. Willis was there to greet us when we arrived and the friendliness of the dogs helped us adjust to leaving ours at home. The place was spotlessly clean and it was apparent that a lot of time and effort went into preparing for our visit. The outdoor shower was invigorating in the brisk November temps but thanks to plenty of hot water it did the trick. We enjoyed the privacy the place afforded and would definitely stay there again.
