Guest Access

The rental is for the private guest room. Dining room and shower rooms are located on the first floor as well, and these are shared spaces.

Our kitchen is small and we use it to prepare family meals, so it is not available for guest use. Please let us prepare your breakfast and explore the many wonderful restaurants/food stands in Osaka (also known as Japan's Kitchen).

Also, unfortunately we can not offer a washer for guests to use. There are a few laundromats in the neighborhood where you can wash your clothes if need be.

Interaction with Guests

We are usually available for anything you need help with during your stay. There is also an intercom in your room so you can call us if we are upstairs. We love to get to know our guests and chat over breakfast/coffee. During the day we are usually working or taking our son somewhere fun.

The Neighborhood

Our street is quiet with virtually no car traffic. The neighborhood is very quiet in the evening so you will be able to enjoy a good night's sleep.

There are a handful of good restaurants and local shops in our neighborhood. It is easy to get to any of these places on foot, so if you don't want to take the train, you can explore a little of Osaka right here.

Getting around

We are located less than 5 minutes walk from 2 different train stations so it is very easy to get anywhere and everywhere.

From Osaka International Airport (KIX)
We recommend taking a combination of the airport bus and Osaka city subway. The airport is located outside of the city so it takes about an hour and costs 1200 yen (approx.)

From Shin-Osaka Shinkansen Station
20 minutes on the subway and you're here. 270 yen.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • M&J were great hosts. It made us wish that we had planned for a long stay in Osaka. Baby Milo is just the cutest. We hope to see them again soon and would recommend their hospitality to everyone.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Everything was professional while being very friendly and laid back. The premises are spacious and clean with good privacy. The location is good, with easy access to both subway and JR Osaka loop line which connects to the Shinkansen, and restaurants and a good supermarket are nearby. We look forward to coming back.

  • Overall we had a fair stay there and all basic requirements for accommodation were met. Breakfast was great. The room we stayed due to the winter season. It is recommended to double check the address with the host as in the confirmation it doesn't mention the address. We asked the host how to get there but we were only instructed how to go to the nearest train station. When we arrived in Osaka , We needed to find a public phone to the host and requested her to send us the address. We realized it's extremely difficult for a traveller to locate it . Even though I asked the train station staff and a shop keeper, Nobody can direct us to get to the place. In the end, I called to the host again and she nicely walked near the train station to pick me up. When I arrived at her home and accessed a free wifi and I realized she just sent us the detail of how to access to her place. Obviously she forgot to send the detail at an earlier stage, which caused a lot of inconveniences. The reason to write this review is not to complain about the host, but I would like to reflect the fact to everyone who may be looking for accommodation in Osaka. In my previous review, I was trying to be polite and humble to write the review in order to assist anyone who are going to stay there for their visit in Osaka. I felt very disappointed with the response the host wrote as for all what she wrote is not really a true story. Before I left my country for Japan, I printed out all confirmation letters issued by air bnb and also contacted all the hosts in Osaka , Kyoto and Tokyo directly for enquiries of how to access to their accommodation from the airport. Among three confirmation letters, it clearly listed out all addresses of the accommodations except the one in Osaka. All hosts would reply my email with all information of how to access to their places except the one in Osaka who only provided how to the nearest train station without any further detail of how to access to her place in the email. I didn't realise this missing information until we were on the way to Osaka city centre from the airport. It took us time to walk around with two heavy piece of luggage to find a public phone. We finally contacted the host to ask for address and requested to send the address to my email or my phone via SMS. In the end , she only provided the address without any further details of how to access to her place from the train station. Even though we agreed the check-in time, we complied what the host mentioned in the air bnb to inform them in case of any late arrival. As a guest, I did comply the rules and regulation. I...

  • My stay here was lovely. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful, the floor mat/bed was really comfortable, and the breakfast every morning was delicious. I would highly recommend staying here instead of a hotel or hostel - I loved being in a real Japanese home and neighborhood, and the experience felt more authentic and cozy. Bonus points for getting to hang out with adorable baby Milo!

  • We had an amazing stay at M&J BB!! They were so helpful and so kind. Their house was very cozy and welcoming. The breakfast was FANTASTIC! Their little one was also a delight to be around even while he was fighting off a cold. And we can not thank them enough for helping us find a lost passport. They went above and beyond to help us find it by calling several local authorities. Highly, highly recommended!

  • We had a lovely stay at M&J. The room and the tatami mat were clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed the chat with both Maisie & Junji as well as playing with baby Mailo. We also love the okonomiyaki place and the cafe serving the Japanese congee near the house recommended by Junji. We will not hesitate to recommend M&J to our friends and will love to return one day. Thanks Maisie & Junji for making our stay in Osaka a memorable one!

  • Cannot recommend this place enough. A wonderful atmosphere in a fun neighbourhood with incredible people. Maisie & Junji went out of their way to make us feel welcome, share things to see and do & generally involve us in their lives. We already miss the long breakfasts, playing with Milo and the general joy that was staying there. Thanks so much guys, you were incredible

  • Rarely do we leave 5 stars, but M&J totally deserve it! A warm, cozy traditional room, hot shower, good location, great company (with a local and American perspective) and a fantastic breakfast (which was better than some of the Japanese-owned inn breakfasts we had). You also get to meet their toddler, Milo, who is pretty awesome and good for some laughs.

  • I had a great but short stay with M&J and their adorable son. I did get a little lost on my way to the house, but that because of my confusion between the subway/train system. The room was pretty big, and although I didn't get a chance to watch it, there was a TV. Bedding was standard Japanese futon & comforter, which was pretty comfy. I stayed over on a particularly cold night in December, so be forewarned that it can get cold while you sleep, although M&J provide a gas heater for the room. The best thing about my stay was the great conversations we had together. Their breakfast is a nice touch, delicious - but even better were the talks shared during the meal. I also got plenty of help and directions for what to see in Osaka. Thanks for the great time guys!

  • Charming tatami room with everything beautifully arranged and organised, plus an excellent breakfast and a lovely one year old to play with! Hosts Maisie and Junji were delightful and their advice and recommendations were spot on. A
great and authentic Osaka experience all round.

We are a Japanese-American couple, living in Osaka for over 30-7 years so we are very knowledgeable about the city and surrounding area. We recently came back from a trip to Europe, where we enjoyed staying at different B&Bs. Our favorite places were the ones that served up delicious breakfasts and gave us personalized information about the neighborhoods. After we returned to Osaka and began apartment hunting we found a nice Japanese style house, took one look at each other and said "This would be the perfect place to start our own B&B". So if you like to relax in the morning before going out on the town, this is the perfect place to stay. We are involved in the local skateboarding and cycling communities, so if this is something that appeals to you, please ask us for information during your stay.
