The Space

A unique apartment in the heart of Edinburgh Old Town. Above the crowds with stunning views to historic Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish east coast and the magnificent Arthurs Seat and everything that Edinburgh has to offer the visitor all year round.

A wonderful place to stay. This self catering apartment has everything you need whether you are staying for one night, a week or longer. It has the most stunning views of the Edinburgh skyline right in the centre of the city. Wonderfully light with a friendly atmosphere. Suitable for the writer, walker, artist, vacationing family or get away from it all couple and friends.

The apartment consist of kitchen and separate bedroom with views to the sea and the magnificent Arthurs Seat and a larger dormer ceilinged room with direct unobstructed views of the Edinburgh Castle and its famous fireworks during the Festival and Hogmanay celebrations.

There is a bathroom and shower, with as of July 2013 a new pump to provide a better full pressure shower!

The apartment has a unique character and style, relaxing and social that makes you feel comfortable the minute you walk through the door. Decorated and furnished to a high standard with antiques and handmade furniture, very unique and handmade by the owners.

The apartment includes a wood burning stove, wall mounted electric heaters and everything you should need to make your stay a memorable one.

The pictures I hope speak for themselves. It's in the very centre of Edinburgh, 5 minutes from Princess Street, the Castle and all that is Edinburgh. Its 10 minutes by public transport to Leith and the Shore and a days trip to the beaches or hills that surround (website hidden) base yourself here for a week is a luxury, so much to do and see.
That's perhaps why there is no television, no landline phone, no WiFi. There are books, music, games, paints, blankets and things to use to make good food and have a good time whilst staying at any time of the year. If you are the creative types its an ideal space.

For everything else its on your doorstep or at least down eight flights of stairs.Yes eight, 147 stone spiral steps with a wooden handrail to the top, steep at first but once you get going it gets easier. Honest.

Due to the nature of the stairs its not suitable for those with severe mobility issues. It is however clean, well lit with space to rest should you need a break.

We will generally help carry luggage up if we are available though it is best to travel light!

This is the place for the adventurers, climbers, walkers and travellers. In the winter its wild and atmospheric, time for jumpers, blankets, good food and the wood-burning stove. This is not a "could be anywhere flat"

If there is anything we can do to make your stay a perfect one, we will. We provide good food to start your breakfast and a well stocked larder of provisions for cooking.

  • The Crows nest was fantastic! You get a great view of the city, and the location is extremely convenient. Simon was very accommodating and made sure that we had everything we needed (including fresh bread and milk). If you don't mind walking up stairs, this is a truly unique, and incredible way to experience the city.

  • Simon was a lovely and accommodating host and everything was ready when we arrived - including milk, tea, coffee and fresh bread! The flat was just as we'd hoped - beautiful views, really cosy and quirky decor. He also recommended the Edinburgh Larder which we went to for breakfast and really enjoyed.

The location was perfect for us and the stairs really weren't bad (although we packed in rucksacks as we were forewarned!). Everything we needed was in the flat - towels, bedding, good shower, kitchen equipment etc.

Would definitely recommend this flat - we loved it!

  • We had a wonderful place at Simon's loft. Yes, eighth floor is quite a climb, but it's absolutely worth it. The loft is spacious and bright, with fabulous view of Edinburgh's skyline. The location is very convenient, and within walking distance from train station and most attractions. Also, Simon is a great host. He even helped us to carry a rather heavy luggage upstairs all by himself. We will definitely stay here again if we visit Edinburgh in the future.

  • Had a fantastic weekend at the crows nest. Bed was very comfortable, flat was nice and clean and a great central location. Also Simon had left us some fresh bread rolls, butter, jam, milk and fruit which was very kind. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

  • Simon was a very nice host, he had everything ready for us in the apartment and greeted us with his lovely daughter. The house is just as I thought it would be, warm, cozy, eccentric and clean with incredible views of the city and the Pentland hills. I loved waking up with the sunshine every morning and looking out the window to see the city, the sea and the hills stretch out in front of me while having my coffee and fresh roll of bread. The apartment is as central as it gets, it was always a short walk home, extremely convenient. The eight flight of stairs are very manageable and a necessity after eating all that fried Scottish food :) There is no internet or tv in the house which I loved as it allowed me to take a break from media overload and rest for the few days I stayed. We are very thankful to Simon for expecting us at such short notice and being very accommodating even tho we arrived an hour late. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in the perfect place in Edinburgh.

  • The Crow's Nest is truly a unique place to stay. The views are amazing and coming back after a day of walking around Edinburgh to enjoy some whisky by his wood stove fire is really wonderful. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the apartment provides lots of charm. Sad I did not get to meet Simon as I had to check in later than expected, but was very happy with how flexible and communicative Simon was.

  • Simon was a fantastic host, the place is delightful and the bread and milk a lovely detail to make you feel at home. Gorgeous views and a lovely place right in the centre of the action. A lot of stairs - so don't bring too much heavy luggage!

  • The three of us stayed at Simons place for two nights and we all thought that we couldn't have stayed anywhere better!
We felt at home from the beginning. The stove in the living room was very good as it was a bit cold the first night. The kitchen is well equipped and the views from all the rooms just amazing!
Simon was very helpful with directions and questions, and always responded within a short time. Apart from the nice flat and friendly host, the flat is also in a perfect location: Close to the train station, right in the middle of Old Town, everything within walking distance.

  • Simon's flat is in a very convenient location for going out in Edinburgh. It's a lovely peaceful place to come back to at the end of the day or evening. We had a great night's sleep there. I'd recommend it.
