About this listing
This newly decorated two-bedroom parterre offers you a tranquil home away from home. Located in the heart of Newmarket you are in walking distance to cafes, shops and parks and just one train stop to Auckland´s CBD. This will tick all your boxes!
Your pleasant space is the first floor of our townhouse. This includes two bedrooms, a lounge with internet-enabled TV (Netflix, Spotify etc), new indoor/outdoor sofa, Playstation, a brand new kitchenette (two hot plates, sink and a microwave) , a bathroom and a sunny outdoor area with your own plunge pool (not heated though)! There is plenty of free off-street parking and a little park right next to the house as well as a bush area right out your window.
You have unlimited high speed internet (connected to fibre too!).
The downstairs area (parterre) is dedicated to you. We live upstairs. The entrance to the premises and laundry machine is shared but you can shut the door to the guest area for complete privacy.
The house is part of a very safe complex that includes access to heated pools, spa, sauna, gym and tennis courts.
Interaction with guests
We are a young couple (well one is!) that share a passion for traveling. We have had fantastic experiences with home stays and we are excited to offer you as much support as we can. Together we speak English, Swiss German, Spanish, French and Norwegian. We are very social and happy to chat about your plans over a wine, or to leave you to muse over some material that we will leave in your lounge. Whatever works for you!
You can walk through our complex and into the Newmarket Train Station where you are then right in the hip and vibrant "Broadway" centre. Here you will find trendy bars, cafes and restaurants as well as exclusive shops, a supermarket, two cinemas, a public gym, and an olympic pool. A further 10 minute walk and you are in the Auckland Domain Park which features our iconic museum, sports fields and historic gardens. If you are here for University there is a new campus for UoA in Newmarket. The city campus is an easy trip by train or bus and if you are here for the hospital it is a just on the other side of Newmarket.
The Newmarket Train Station is on our back door - just the one stop to the CBD (NZ$2.00). Newmarket is a key transport hub so you can also get buses from here and there is a free inner city link bus. Should you have a car we have plenty of off-street parking and the southern motorway passes through Newmarket. There are also plenty of great walks from here and we are close to two volcanic cones for some great vistas of the city. A regular question is "how far away are the beaches?". Mission Bay is a 10 minute drive. To get to the famous west coast beaches (like Piha) it is a 45 minute drive. Ferries leave from the bottom of the CBD and you can get out to beautiful Waiheke Island in just 35 minutes (thoroughly recommend this as a day trip or overnight stay). There are plenty of mountain bike trails in and around the city. Just ask us!
Other things to note
He (Murray) is a Kiwi. Born and bred in Auckland. She (Jess) is half Swiss half Mexican and now enjoying life in Aotearoa (NZ). He (Lio) is a little human yet to master the tricks to walking. He (Vinnie) is a charismatic cat who is the true owner of this house!
Our house is your house and we are quite easy going. We expect that you will respect the space, be mindful of noise at night, smoke outside only, and be ok with a cat. Pets are allowed but please respect the furniture is brand new.
I'm a very social and happy person who enjoys meeting new people and have a laugh. Traveling and snowboarding are my biggest passions. The most amazing travels I have done so far is a month-long motorbike trip together with my partner Murray through East Africa - what an amazing experience.
I'm half Swiss half Mexican, very open minded and attracted to almost any kind of adventure. That is probably the reason that brought me to New Zealand, where I not only fell in love with my Kiwi partner but also with the country and it's people. Together we're proud parents of our baby boy Lio and our exceptionnaly sociable cat, Vinnie.
I'm also a bit of a foodie and I love to cook, experimenting with different kinds of food from all over the world...how about some chili-fondue? Sounds tempting? Add some melting chocolate pie for desert and I'm in heaven. I guess even if I live on the other side of my former home, some Swissness can never be hidden.
