Brand new apartment with free high-speed internet at the base of the slopes.
This is a brand new studio apartment with its own entrance in our home. It has a sunny terrace facing the Mont Blanc range. It is walking/skiing distance to Les Houches gondola, a city bus stop, and train station (Viaduc St. Marie). Ask about transfers, or park your car on site in private drive. Large bathroom with shower, toilet, sink. There is free internet, but no TV at present. The partially-equipped kitchen (mini-fridge, coffee pot, dishes, etc.) is good for sandwiches, breakfasts, and ordering in. No microwave or burner for hot foods, but ask about breakfast or dinner service, such as fondue delivered to your room, heating food upstairs, or getting fresh bread in the morning. In the summertime, ask about using the barbecue grill outside or picking fresh salad and herbs from the garden.
This is our home and we have kids of our own--you may hear some running around occasionally, more often in the summer. In the winter, you will probably not see us much, but in the summer we will be outside in the yard and may be a bit more visible. We are very child-friendly and can provide many extra services for children--just ask! (i.e., car seats, cot, stroller, advice on activities for kids, nearby short hikes, etc.) We are also located within walking distance of many activities for kids (see below). Additional services upon request (laundry, housekeeping, etc.)
NOTE: We accept one night reservations, but only less than two weeks in advance and only if it requires one bed. There will be a supplement of $10 if two beds are required.
Nearby in summer. When the snow melts, there are many hiking and mountain biking trails that start nearby the house, including the famous Tour du Mont Blanc trail that goes from Chamonix through Italy and Switzerland and back. Around the Chavants lake in summer you can now also play tennis, fish in the lake, go rock climbing, or organize a picnic and barbecue. There is a small restaurant with sunny deck on the lake in the summer (lunchtime only). For children there is a playground with swings, slides and other games suitable for 2-10 year olds, and a tree adventure park.
Nearby in Winter: If conditions permit you can ski out of the chalet down to the gondola at the Prarion and not have to worry about parking or long lines (buy your ticket in advance). Adventurous skiers can ski off piste back home too! If you have touring/randonnee skis you can skin up the mountain from the house through forest trails and ski back down. There are also cross country ski trails starting just across the street which take you through the forest, around an authentic, modern farm, and around the Chavants lake. There is a sledding hill for kids and a beginning ski school (from 3 years old) and a child care center. We can also arrange a visit of the farm and an authentic meal in the farmhouse. Near the departure of the gondola there is also a bakery, coffee shop, ski rental store, and crepe stand, and the bus stop to take you to further destinations such as Bellevue, downtown les houches, an indoor climbing wall, Chamonix, Argentiere or Servoz, and the train stations.

This is our home, and shared garden/driveway space, so you may see/hear kids running around. We expect our guests to be respectful of that, and we will do the same. Please no loud music or late nights. The kitchen is available for light meals, with fridge for cold cuts, milk, etc. but no stove for cooking. Ask to borrow a fondue pot, or have us make it for you!
I loved both the hospitality and the lovely apartment. The family is wonderful
le contact a été facile ; l'endroit était idéal pour le festival auquel nous participions ; endroit très calme ; propreté parfaite ;
seul inconvénient, pas de bouilloire électrique, pour chauffer de l'eau.
First of all we would like to thank Julien for his hospitality.
The studio apartment is great and charming, well located at Les Houches (10 minutes from Chamonix) and very comfortable with incredible views to the Mont Blanc range.
Julien is a great host; ready to help in anything you required. He offers their bikes, invites for a BBQ in their terrace or give a tips and indications for sightseeing in the surroundings.
Spent 3 nights in Sarah's downstairs apartment -- great little place to get away from the summer rain! She was ready for me with hot tea when I arrived and wanted to give me her Sim card when she found out that I am doing the tour du Mont blanc solo and without a phone -- a caring host is worth a lot in a new location. I didn't have a car and was fine taking the bus to Chamonix and walking to center of town for groceries. Great place to rest before starting the TMB!
The room is very nice and in a wonderful location within Les Houches. Julian was very helpful with the setting of the internet, the heater and lending me a bike.
For travelers without cars, beware that in the summer Les Houches is not very active and the closest place to get food is about 2 km away. Overall I recommend the house of Sarah and Julian and I very much enjoy my stay there.
Hi. We are a French-American couple who have been living in the area for over 10 years. We have just built a house and are excited to start welcoming guests into the private studio. We have benefited from the generosity of friends, family and strangers over the years and hope you help others discover this beautiful area that we fell in love with at first sight and never left.
When not taking care of the house and three kids, I work from home as a professional in international development working on education projects around the world, or developing instructional materials for international organizations including the UN.
