We stayed at Poppy Hostel for 7 great nights, which I think is kind of long compared to other guests. The hostel was mostly empty while we were there, so we mainly had the two bathrooms just for us. On the other hand, when other guests did arrive on our last night, the hostel was more lively and we had great conversations. I loved staying in a historic building, with old doors, old windows, old kitchen tiles... Really adds a value to your stay, compared to some modern apartment/room that you will find allover the world! The kitchen is basic and the gas stove/oven are a little slow, but it has everything necessary for cooking. You should know that the hostel does not have hot water, that was not clear to us before booking. Once we got accustomed to it, it didn't even bother anymore. The water has around the same temperature as the air (or the sea), so it feels warm quickly! We talked with other people who booked a similar hostel (not with Airbnb) and they did not have hot water either, so it might be common on the island. In the nights you have two choices: close the window shutters (which have mosquito nets) and feel a little hot in the night but stay free from (further) mosquito bites, or open the shutters and enjoy a perfect temperature and get mosquito company :) So that's up to you. We had a rental car (which we would totally recommend) and never had issues finding a parking spot in front of the house. If you like diving/snorkeling and beaches, maybe the location is not 100% perfect, as it always took at least a 30 minute drive to the west of the island. But what I appreciated about the location of the hostel is the proximity to the city of Willemstad. A few minutes walking distance to the port, the famous bridge, many restaurants, ... Only on Sunday evenings the city is a little disappointing, as 95% of the restaurants are closed and not many people are around (as cruisehips also left already). The host Lillian who was most of the times around is a very kind person who enriched our stay to such an extend! She always had tips, advice, was fun to talk to. We can totally recommend this accomodation and would book it again anytime!

Hey Sandra, Thanks for your great and long review. It really helps us make Poppy Hostel the best it can be. I will make it clear in the listing that there is no hot water. We recommend that guests who would like to have a hot shower wait until the afternoon. The water temperature is a balmy 34 degrees. Glad you made the most of your stay snorkeling and history. Nice! Lilian is a great host, we are happy to have her. Cheers, Art

We spent 9 days at Poppy Kamers and really enjoyed it! Because... ... the place is spacious. in our room (we had the very last one at the back) there was a big bed, a table and a big closet with a safe in it. ... we felt safe (altough its in otrabanda)! there were 3 locks to get into our room and another two for the safe. ... everything worked out find with Arthur (emails, pick up from airport, sheets) ... we met very cool people there! and there is enough place to meet each others (kitchen, backyard, Livingroom with tv). ... it is central located. Supermarket across the street, the famous bridge in about 10min walking distance and a very delicious smalltalk bistro at the corner -> 5 fingers... ... there are free parking possibilities infront of the House. there is no AC in the house, which is oke for us, but it can get very warm inside and there is no chance to get any air courrant in. if we went again, we would stay there again definitively. My wife and I could not have been happier with our stay at Poppy Kamers. We do a lot of cooking at home, so we loved having the full kitchen - we cooked at least one meal a day while there. Art is a really great host. He's very responsive, incredibly helpful and just a good guy. When our flight changed so that we ended up arriving a day late, he gave us the wireless password for free and also gave us a return trip to the airport. He's also a your guide on the island, so he can tell you just about all you need to know about its history, culture, getting around, and what attractions are worthwhile. Art even invited us out for beers with some of his friends and family, all of whom were equally cool and nice. If you are traveling on a budget, this is a foolproof option - go with Poppy Kamers!

Art was very helpful and gave us good tips about the island. The house is very conveniently located close to a supermarket and a bus stop taking you to the beautiful beaches on the northern west coast and it's a short walk to the center of Willemstad. The house is also in good condition and clean. The fans feel a bit noisy (but necessarily given the temperature...) at night and mosquitoes can get irritating but with earplugs and mosquito repellent you should be fine. Great value for money!

Widely traveled, cosmopolitan, liberal and inquisitive. I enjoy meeting new friends and imparting my experiences as well as listening to those of others. Curacao history and architecture fascinate me and if you come to this island they are both to be found in abundance.

As a registered multilingual Tour Guide, I delight in imparting my local knowledge on all types of Island tours. I draw on these experiences to pen original, well written and researched content on everything Curacao.

I enjoy making music and have founded my own Percussion Instrument brand on the Island: Art Beat Cajons. Film, reading and technology are some other interests and am always up for adventures (usually on a shoe-string). I hope to welcome many interesting and respectful guests to Poppy Hostel Curacao. My goal is to make their stay as interesting and informed as possible.

Bon-Bini na Korsou!
