After an adventurous day in the hustle and bustle of Cairo, retreat to the quiet and beauty of your private apartment on a houseboat on the River Nile. Located a few minutes from the center of the city, you will find it hard to believe that such tranquility can be found amidst the chaos of this wonderful city. Enjoy the fresh breeze on your private balcony with a spectacular panoramic view of the Nile and the city, or just take in the view from the large windows and glass door from within.
While as a houseboat the overall feeling is rustic and bohemian with wooden floors and cozy ambiance, the furnishings can be described as basic Scandinavian with a touch of Egypt. Amenities include air conditioners, ceiling fans, washing machine, wireless internet, satellite TV, balcony, large equipped kitchen, and a lovely garden with bench (on the connecting land).
Your hosts, Dan (from the USA) and Mia (from Sweden), will share their decades of experience living in Cairo and traveling throughout Egypt and the region to assist you in any way we can to make your stay in our beloved Cairo a most memorable one. To begin with, for example, we have wonderful Egyptian drivers who speak good English to take you to and from the airport; and our private tour guides are the best!
This beautiful 2-bedroom apartment is only rented in its entirety for your total privacy.
We look forward to welcoming you to our paradise on the Nile. Dan & Mia

des hôtes très accueillants et petites attentions quotidiennes très appréciées
Although a bit noisy, the neighborhood is very well located, only a ten minute walk to Zamalek. It took us some time to get used to the rocking, but once we did, everything was fine. The boathouse is great, exactly like the pictures showed. Dan was a great host, he gave us tips for where to go and what to eat. He also helped us arrange airport transfer and a tour around the city. Mina, the tour guide was exceptional.
It was great to stay with Dan and he made me very welcome on the Nile. He arranged pick-up from the airport and had some food added to the fridge. The location of the boat is good as it allows for some down time from the chaos of Cairo. Dan has some good insider tips for anyone visiting Egypt for the first time.
We had a wonderful week at this charming houseboat floating on the Nile in Cairo. Dan was a terrific host and was thoughtful to make sure we had breakfast items and all the comfortable basics. The houseboat is well located just across the river from Zamalek which has many restaurants and shops to visit. And we were fortunate to have booked tour guide, Mina for two full days to explore Coptic Cairo, Islamic Cairo, the bazaar, the pyramids of Giza, and several mosques. Mina is a terrific guide and we saw aspects of the city we would never have seen thanks to him. Dan is also on hand to suggest all his favorite places. We highly recommend staying here!
We had a wonderful stay at Dan´s houseboat. The houseboat view is gorgeous and the rooms are quite comfortable, so it`s a nice place to relax between exploring Cairo which can be really exhausting ;)
Dan is a great host, he was very welcoming and he provided many recommendations on where to go.
I would totally recommend staying at Dan´s houseboat. You will enjoy it!!
Dan’s houseboat is a unique way to experience Cairo, far more interesting than a hotel. Dan was a great host, giving helpful advice and also connecting us with a very good, knowledgeable and reliable tour guide, Mina Samir, who made everything about our visits around the city as easy as possible. Thanks a lot, Dan!

Hi, I'm Dan. Born in New York City, I've spent most of my adult life living and working in the Middle East, have visited over 40 countries (and lived long-term in 7 countries), and obviously love to travel, play tennis, music, and generally just spread good vibes wherever I am. I have lived on this houseboat in Cairo for 12 years, and can't imagine a more wonderful place to live. I love sharing my passions with others.
Mia has also lived on this houseboat for 12 years, is a renowned Swedish photographer and journalist, authoring several photo-books on Cairo and the region, and thus she has many interesting contacts throughout Egypt and the region. Her other passions include art and gardening.
We live just below the apartments we are posting on airbnb, and look forward to sharing our love of the region and our knowledge with you.
