Our beautiful 2 bedroom house is nestled in the heart of the Whiteaker neighborhood. A bustling and eccentric urban area in Eugene that is packed with breweries and restaurants . It's also close to downtown, Autzen stadium, Sweet Life and the river.
Our urban modern craftsman home was built in 2007. It is remodeled from a 700 sq. foot cottage and was built by us! It has an open and spacious feeling and yet is cozy and warm with repurposed lumber and modern amenities. There is a hot tub along with a beautiful deck for relaxing in the summer. There are two large tvs and wireless. There is a dance/workout room and an office. Two bedrooms, one with a king, one with a queen. Both have bathrooms, one with a walkin shower, one with a clawfoot tub. There is room for air mattresses for several more guests. The house is fully furnished. There is also a cottage in the back of the property that will sleep 2, and is also available to rent. (Please see Urban Whiteaker Cottage) This is not a party house. We have neighbors next door and they all like to sleep at night. That being said, a good time can still be had before 11pm!
It's situated in the heart of Whiteaker, Eugene's oldest neighborhood. Esquire magazine calls it "one of the weirdest neighborhoods in America". It's a mix of bohemian vibe, urban funk and hippy love. Within a 5 minute walk, you'll find Ninkasi (local beer brewery), Territorial (a local winery), Vanilla Jill's (a local organic frozen yogurt co.), Sam Bond's garage (a bar/venue for amazing shows), PRI (the most unusual pizza you'll ever try), Meiji (japanese pub), Mame sushi (a new hole in the wall that serves world class sushi), a host of traditional mexican and thai restaurants, and of course, my bakery, Sweet Life ((website hidden)).
The river is a short jaunt, as well as most places in Eugene as it is centrally located. On street parking and bus stops right out front.
Keep in mind, this house is located in the center of a busy neighborhood. You'll often hear music from the local venues at night and an occasional rowdy bunch in the park next door. The energy of the neighborhood is festive and unique.
Locally roasted organic coffee and assorted teas provided.
We're busy on our farm and at the bakery, so you probably won't see too much of us, but we'll greet you and make sure you're settled in.
NO parties or events are allowed.
This house is situated in an urban area with a homeless mission nearby and several bars in the area. We have lived here for over 20 years and have had very few unsavory encounters. Just be aware and lock your car at night and do not leave valuables unattended.
We felt really lucky to stay in this beautiful house that has everything. The house seemed very "green" and toxin free. No outgassing, non smoking and clean laundry facilities.
Our little dog was welcome and felt right at home. The full kitchen offered great potential which we used to the fullest. My daughter made dinner for the whole family and we found the recycle, compost and trash easily.
My first time using airbnb and everything went very well. Catherine met us at the house and was very gracious and helpful. The house was great, actually better than expected. I would have no hesitation booking it again and again. We also liked the neighbourhood and the fact that we could walk to the local market. All in all, this was a very good experience.
What a wonderful home! Though we never met during our stay, Scott and Catherine made us feel so welcome. Upon awakening to the gorgeous view from the master bedroom our mornings began with a basket of goodies from Catherine's bakery along with delicious coffee and tea. Each room of this vast house is beautifully finished, every convenience is readily available, (wi-if, computer and printer, flat screen TV's, surround sound, a fully equipped kitchen, spa, BBQ). Great food and breweries are within walking distance. Loved the neighborhood, we can't wait to come back!
Four of us were in Eugene for 3 days for the IAAF Junior World Track Championships at Hayward Field. Catherine was very kind to let us put our luggage in the house early so we didn't need to leave it in our cars parked during the day. This is a wonderful home, very artistically decorated and very well equipped. We enjoyed the hot tub and conducted our own Yoga class in the room with that equipment upstairs! There are 5 or 6 restaurants within 3 blocks of this home---a nice plus on the evening we didn't cook dinner. Not only would we stay in this home again, we hated to leave!!!
Scott and Catherine's house was wonderful. It's actually even nicer than I expected. The pictures don't do it justice. The backyard is an incredible place to sit back and relax at the end of the day. The living space and master bedroom were also incredible. There is an open window from the living area to the smaller bedroom. You can't actually see into it but you can hear voices from the living area when you are inside the smaller bedroom. It isn't that much of an issue though since there is enough space in the house to hang out but with larger groups it might be different.
Catherine was a great host. She was helpful--left a book full of recommendations in the area. We had a minor issue while we were there and Catherine resolved it quickly and in a satisfactory way. Her bakery is wonderful as well. In fact, I heard rave reviews about it from locals in the area.
I'm a little surprised none of the other reviews mentioned the park adjacent to the property. Sketchy characters all over the place and at all hours of the day and night. So at night, you can hear some pretty interesting stuff from over there. I didn't find it to be dangerous or scary but one of our party (a young woman) didn't feel comfortable walking around there alone at night.
Other than that, I thought everything was wonderful at the Whiteaker House.
We had such a wonderful time in Catherine and Scott's home. The house is exquisite down to every detail. So comfortable and convenient to all the best places in Eugene. The home is very well stocked with everything you could need and a perfect place to host a multi-generational family vacation. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. Everything was perfect!

I own a patisserie in Eugene, Oregon with my sister. My husband Scott and I built our dream home 3 years ago. Now we're embarking on a new adventure of starting an organic farm so we can grow berries and flowers for our bakery. We enjoy growing, preserving, cooking and eating good food, playing with our niece and nephews, dinners with friends, and making beautiful things grow.
