It's not in a touristy area. Laid back, beach is quiet and clean. People are very helpful and friendly. And the town is modest, yet clean. It shows a lot about the integrity of residents.
Not really, you need a car.

This was a great place to stay. The owners downstairs were super nice and friendly, very helpful when asked for advice or directions. Their little dog was very friendly as well and a welcome guest on our cool tile floors when we would hang out in the mornings. A nice beach is right down the road, with a public fisherman's beach to the right and a bunch of public and private beaches to the left. Plenty of shoreline exploring and the small town of Loiza is fascinating as well. Fruit stands and small food kiosks, as well as small restaurants, line the main road, and it is close to all of the east coast attractions like Luquillo and its 50 food kiosks and Fajardo, and the wilderness beaches to the West, on the way to San Juan. Great place, very comfortable, all of the amenities for cooking and living, a welcoming base for as much exploring and as many day trips, or as much relaxation as you want.
We had a wonderful time at Lola's in Loiza! Tiffany emailed us before our trip to make sure we were prepared for our stay, and Lola and Tony, who live downstairs, were very sweet and welcoming. They also have an adorable dog who followed us around as we walked through town and seemed to be looking out for us.
Loiza is a great area to stay in. It's conveniently located near San Juan; and a quick day trip to El Yunque Rainforest as well as the beautiful beaches of Culebra and Vieques. There are a few small bars and markets within walking distance from the house, and the folks in town were extremely friendly. There is also a nice beach within walking distance from Lola's house where we took a morning dip.
We got a little lost on the way there because we hadn't printed out the directions that Tiffany had sent in advance. When we called Tiffany she gave us the help we needed and even put us in touch with Lola who offered to come rescue us. We did make it there eventually, but I definitely recommend printing out those directions before heading to Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico stole my heart and I know I will be back soon. When I do make it down there again I hope to stay at Lola's.
The apartment was exactly as described on AirBnB. The hostess Lola and Tony are extremely sweet and hospitable and very helpful if you need anything. They have two very friendly pets--a cat and a dog who make you feel at home, too.
The apartment has a fully-equipped kitchen. The beds had clean sheets. All the windows are fitted with netting to keep out mosquitoes. There are also ceiling fans and pedestal fans.
Even though the weather is hot outside, the sea breeze blowing through the apartment keeps it cool and very pleasant inside.
Loiza is a simple working-class town. It was a great feeling to be in the midst of the real Puerto Rico versus staying at the larger hotel chains in downtown San Juan.
More importantly, this apartment is a 10-minute walk from the beach.
We had a very comfortable stay.
We stayed for one week in Loiza and we were very satisfied with Lolas House. The house is as described and looks like in the pictures. Check-in and Check-out was easy and fast and it was no problem that we arrived late in the evening.
Its just a short walk to the beach which was mostly empty. If you have a car, then this is a solid place to stay.
Hosts were incredibly gracious and helpful. Very close to beach, in a residential neighborhood with local color. Overall very pleasant mellow stay.
My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and after a few minutes of culture shock, had the most excellent time!!!! We hadnt been outside the North East of the US for quite some time and PR is nothing like home! its great!!!!! We were greeted by Lola and her husband Tony who welcomed us with hugs and champagne for our marriage! The apartment is super clean and adorable, all of the amenities we needed to keep our vacation on the cheap side by cooking at home. I especially liked the African art on the walls.
There are roosters and dog noises in the middle of the night but we got there the same day PR experienced a huge earthquake off the coast so I think they were especially raucous. We loved the neighborhood and our hosts were available if we needed anything.
It's also in the beat possible spot for experiencing everything the northeast of PR has to offer, from Loquillo beach, el Yunique, snorkel tours in Farjardo, and San Juan--its all 20 minutes away! Also, it only takes 3 hours to get to the other side of the island so there is always more to explore if you don't mind waking up early!
Definitely coming back as soon as possible! Thank you again Tony, Lola and Tiffany for the fabulous apartment!
Tiffany was great in providing quick and helpful communication with all the info we needed. The hosts were so accommodating and helpful. The house is set back from the main road and a very short walk from a beautiful beach. I would definitely stay here again!
We had a great time! Tiffany is great, she gave us directions from the airport and a few suggestions of places to see. Lola and her husband (the hosts) are some of the nicest people you will ever meet! The house was clean and conveniently located to get around. There is no AC, however we just opened the windows and the breeze cooled the place down. The kitchen has everything you need to cook for yourself and a Walmart near so you can pick-up what you need. We would definitely stay here again when we visit.
My friends and I had a wonderful time while staying with Ms Lola in Loiza. The apartment is very clean and spacious. We never felt crowded. An added touch that we weren't expecting was to have complementary soaps/ shampoos. The beach is LITERALLY a five min. walk down the street and is absolutely beautiful. We ended most of our nights there. There are beach chairs and umbrellas for you to use. We even left a little grill there so a beach BBQ, which we attempted, would be a breeze. Loiza is one of the most beautiful, culturally rich communities we visited and the people are amazingly caring full of life. I will say this location is great if you plan on being out for most of the day exploring Puerto Rico. As it is a little off the beat and path; it would cut into your day a lot to come back before you were fully done enjoying your day. A car is definitly needed, but after one or two times going to the house it is a sure shot from any area you would wish to visit. Ms lola ( or abuela Lola as we called her) is amazing! She was more than helpful with getting us to the apartment our first few days, and would always come out to greet us when we returned to the house. We secretly looked forward to seeing her too. It was great getting to know and spend time with her. She even offered to let us use her personal computer when we had trouble with the wifi. After visiting San Juan we agreed that we made the right choice in location. Loiza has an abundance of character and provided us with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We were able to enjoy the tourist attractions at our will, but I fear that we would've never ventured out to other communitites such as Loiza if we stayed in San Juan. A friend or ours, and native of Puerto Rico, was surprised and even impressed that we were staying in Loiza. He stated, and I quote that, " Loiza is one of the most beautiful and well kept ( from tourist) towns in puerto Rico.We thoroghly enjoyed our stay and Ms Lola. Ms Lola is the bomb! Overall a great experience!
We had a wonderful stay in Loiza. We used the apartment as a base to explore other areas, like El Yunque, and even spent some time on the lovely beach right next to the house!
