The Space

Renovated extensively in 15 and now re-opened for guests. (Forgive the amateur photos! Better ones on the way.) Old friends, do come back - and new guests welcome!

A unique space featuring soaring 20 foot ceilings, striking architectural detail and a new, high spec fitout with everything you need to make my home your home while you're here.
• Large, comfy lounge and living areas
• Kitchen with it all - cook up a storm if you like
• Quality furnishings and appliances throughout
• Wireless internet access
• Nespresso machine for those early morning lattes in the courtyard
• Private courtyard with high-powered BBQ (an Aussie must)
• Plus access to gym, pool and extensive landscaped grounds

Settle into your own newly decorated, spacious, quiet room with:
• Very comfy double bed (everyone comments on it!)
• Additional small (and I do mean small) fold-out single
• Room controlled air conditioning
• Luxury linens
• Flat screen TV
• Desk and chair if you need to work
• Adjacent, brand new private bathroom with large shower

It's ideal for one adult, two singles (if one's happy to sleep on a squeezy fold-out!) or a couple. (A baby may be welcome for short stays, but the house isn't suitable for toddlers or young children.)

My home is perfect for folks who like to make themselves at home, come and go as they please, stay in a friendly, fun, informal environment, get inside local knowledge and help when they want it, but for the most part fend for themselves. (No formal B&B services - it's just 'help yourself' here!)

Oh and if you're averse to dogs, beware - Boof the Spoodle pup has moved in!

Guest Access

Access as much of my home as you like. Share the lounge, the kitchen, the courtyard with me if you like to hang out. Or stick to your own private room and bath if that's what you prefer. Expansive common area grounds, gym and pool are also yours to enjoy.

Interaction with Guests

How much interaction with your host do you like? In my place, it's really up to you. I've had quiet guests with their own plans who prefer to keep to themselves. And gregarious ones who jump in and live the local life with me and my congenial neighbours. All are welcome, on your own terms.

The Neighborhood

Port Melbourne is one of Melbourne's most sought-after inner enclaves - a salty-aired, breezy, almost resort-like bayside neighbourhood - yet just 10 minutes by tram from the centre of the city.

Formerly a rough-edged wharfie zone, today Port is a delightful mix of high and low, old and new, teeming with quirky cafes, every flavour of restaurant or pub and shops of all kinds. Plus the beach, with its kilometres of bike and walking paths meandering along the waterfront, is just a few steps from my front door.

But what makes my 'hood' a truly special place to stay...

Well, if you like a real neighbourhood, not just a location, you'll love Port. It's a friendly, bustling place where Vince the barista extraordinaire learns what coffee you like and has it ready for you before you ask - folks say hi as you run (or stroll) along the beach - and neighbours drop by for a natter. Come stay and see why my neighbours and I wouldn't live anywhere else!

Getting Around

Couldn't be easier! The tram and 10-minute access to the city is just a few blocks away, with guest metro passes available at the tram stop. Plus rent-a-bikes just out the front door. And easy walking to neighbourhood and bayside delights.

Other Things to Note

The whole house, suitable for 4-5 guests, may occasionally be available for the right guests at the right time. Please contact me if you're interested.

Port Melbourne, Australia · Member since February 2011

I'm a once-upon-a-time New Yorker, transplanted to Australia 27 years ago for a one-year assignment, and never looked back.

I now work from home running my own marketing consulting and creative services business. And my place is a frequent stopping off point for friends from around the globe - or for neighbours just dropping by on the way home from the tram.

You'll find an easy-going home away from home here. I'll show you where everything is, you can help yourself any time, and feel welcome to join in for a drink or a chat. Or if you prefer to stay to yourself, that's cool too.
