We stayed at Amy's over the President's day week-end and we had a wonderful time. The place and the neighborhood were great, and Amy treated us to some wonderful breakfast (and the coffee cake was so yummy). Since it was the first time we were in LA we had ambitious plans, and Amy's house is perfectly located so we could reach a lot of the places - easy to reach the Getty museum, Venice beach and even heading into Hollywood was really easy. We can't wait to go again - this time we'll spend much more time at the beach.
Amy and Richard are great people who gave us lots of good local tips for restaurants, bike-riding and sightseeing in the local area and beyond. We would have never discovered the restaurant Gjelina in Venice without their help, plus a bonus tip to ask for table on the patio instead of inside. They recommended we rent bikes on Friday rather than Saturday, a much busier time. Richard steered us towards the local Saturday Farmers Market, and Amy convinced us to visit the Watts Towers which was well worth the time as are the two Getty Museums, all within a short drive. Nothing is a far drive from their home and much is within bus-riding distance if you don't have a car. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed including wi-fi, private bath (small but fine) and TV. Amy throws in an over-the-top breakfast most Airbnb hosts don't include. She served fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs, homemade coffee cake or other bakery item and good coffee. Their home is in a quiet, residential neighborhood, right off Pico Blvd., a main street with good bus service. I'd recommend renting a car, however. The is LA, after all, and you will find it handier for getting around, especially at night, or for visiting other parts of the city. Parking around Santa Monica and Venice is cheap and plentiful.
I felt welcome from the moment I made the reservation. Amy returned my request and subsequent questions quickly, was extremely accommodating and made me feel instantly welcome when I arrived. She was ready to make breakfast for me every day and I wished my busy schedule allowed me to spend more time with her and her husband to chat. Everything was as described/pictured and I really couldn't have asked for more!
Amy and Richard were so kind & helpful! They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The first day I was there, Richard even left for work early to drop me off at a job interview nearby.
There are already plenty of comments on the delicious breakfasts! The back porch was a wonderful place to do a little yoga or reading, and the location was easily walkable to many great restaurants and bars. A great place to stay for a leisurely, relaxing time in Santa Monica.
Staying with Amy was an absolute pleasure. She is funny, inviting, smart, helpful, and most importantly just a wonderful human being. From the moment we arrived she informed us of great activities around the city and told us to just relax and take our time in the morning, while she made breakfast. Now, when I say she takes breakfast seriously, SHE TAKES BREAKFAST SERIOUSLY. We were served orange juice, tea, toast, eggs, chocolate chip brioche/blueberry muffins, and the biggest selection of fruit I've ever seen. (note: bananas and raspberries together = heaven) Also, the fact that we were literally 20 minutes (tops) to anything and everything made her home a pristine location to stay. We also had the benefit of parking in her driveway, so no tickets for us!
I don't think I can stress how nice of a stay we had at her home. We slept like babies, were fed like kings, and could walk, ride the bus, or drive anywhere with ease from her home. I highly recommend her to anyone staying in LA. Next time we visit we are for sure staying with her. :)
Amy and Richard were wonderful hosts and made me feel very welcome in their home. The room itself was nice: clean and comfortable, quiet and peaceful. Amy prepared a beautiful breakfast each morning and did everything she could to make my stay as pleasant as possible.
This was the first time I've used Air BnB and the overall experience was very positive. I would highly recommend this host.
Amy' place was just perfect. Own bathroom, daily breakfast and short distance to the beach ( also with bikes). Amy was a great host!!!Just perfect....!!! Please visit her...
