Hacienda Daniela in Sayulita. A true Hacienda-style house in tropical Paradise.
This house transports you into another world were you get an old world atmosphere with all the true modern convience.
This house is located in north Sayulita, just two blocks from the beach and “left” surfbreak. This house has been constructed in pure Mexican hacienda style, offering a combination of Spanish construction techniques and Pre-Hispanic methods and handmade artwork all over the place, from the floors to the decoration.
The hacienda layout is based upon the classic form of a central patio (historically used to collect rain water) but now giving the house an incredible privacy plus natural sunlight and ventilation without necessary looking at the street.
The construction is made out of antique materials including 100+ year-old wooden beams, stone façades from old colonial buildings, gigantic stone columns brought from different parts of Mexico and a very articulate handcrafted construction to perfectly accentuate this very special construction style.
There are carefully planned spaces for each part of the house, a special living room designed for use with the pool. This house has two sets of rooms connected through a corridor, thus giving unique privacy to the users of the house. Each room has its own bathroom, as well.
An enormous terrace on the roof with a barbeque can be used for sunbathing during the day or stargazing in the evenings.
My co-workers and I stayed at Casa Daniela on April of 2015 and had a great time time there. Maru responded right away upon our request and provided useful tips and directions from the airport in Puerto Vallarta. The house was great, with lots of room and a beautiful courtyard. Sabrina, the caretaker, was nice and promptly helped fix the swimming pool lights after we discovered they were not working. There's 3 bedrooms with 2 queen size beds each and 1 master bedroom with a large bed. The kitchen comes with lots of cooking-ware and there is lots of towels to use at the beach or in the pool. The neighborhood is quiet and next to an elementary school. All in all, a good experience.
The house was lovely. We rarely needed to use the air conditioning, due to the shadiness. The pool was COLD.
Sabrina, the manager, was always an email away and responded to all our issues.
Rosie, the housekeeper was efficient and friendly.
Unfortunately, we had to leave quickly due to a family emergency back in Canada. I would have loved to have been there for the last month we had planned.
Maru was absolutely wonderful. She was available whenever we needed and Sabrina was close by and attentive at all times. The house is absolutely gorgeous and a great place for a group of 10 ladies for a bachelorette party! We would definitely stay here again :)
This rental was very expensive ( price was considerably increased for Christmas week) but to be fair it is a beautiful and well decorated house.
We had some disappointing issues with check-in. We were advised we could come early ( confirmed by email the day before arrival) and the plan was to check- in before noon. So we left Puorta Vallarta early to get settled. As it was the house was finally cleaned ( for the day) by 7pm. Further cleaning of pool happened over the next 2 days).
As I said to the landlord:
"If you were even a little bit apologetic rather than defensive I may have reviewed you differently.
A bottle of wine does not resolve:
- late check-in for those expecting early check-in. The day before arrival you confirmed availability. ( Wasted hours in paradise!)
- a ceiling leak and soaked bed ( we were unable to use that bed so that person had to stay in the lesser Casa Matilda";
- no oven in "full kitchen" and tiny coffee-maker;
- an active hornet nest above door in hall at a bedroom entrance- which caused a lot of turmoil and hassle- should have been found by your manager well before check-in;
- plumbing issues necessitating regular service calls;
- lack of privacy due to so many service calls
- not allowing use of boogy boards ( in locked cupboard) when requested.
- 1 key for such a large house?;
- To me the term "full kitchen" makes me assume there would be an oven. We had burners. For a house for 8-10 people a toaster-oven doesn't suffice. We ended up eating most meals at the great restaurants in town but that was not our plan and would not have been our choice."
The landlord lives in another city and deals thru a local manager.
All in all, another visit may yield a great experience, but I expect there would always be small issues to deal with at this house.
We had great stay at Casa Daniela. Nice pool area with lots of plants. Short walk to the beach and to town. Rooms uniquely decorated, with an overall homey atmosphere.
