The house worked out nicely for us. Great view!
We had a pleasent stay in Monicas house. The view is amazing, we got to spot many different birds. Monica is very lovely and communicate. The housekeeper was also very nice and we managed to communicate quite well even though she only speaks Spanish and we English. We do have a couple of tips for the house. We were staying with 4 adults but there were only 2 comfortable chairs and no couch, so 2 of us always had to sit on the wooden table chairs. There was also a set of sheets missing the entire time and we found the drive to Rio Celeste to be quite a while longer than 40 mins. This house is great if you have plenty of time and don't want to be in the middle of a tourist area. It truely is a beautiful place. If you however want to be really close to either of the mentioned national parks, you might want to look elsewhere.
This spot was just perfect for the view on Arenal Lake. It is quiet and perfect for bird watching too. It's not too far from "downtown", but you must have your own car. Arenal Lake is very long. The volcano is located on the opposite end of it, so don't expect a view on the volcano. It's about 40 minutes drive to La Fortuna where you'll want to head for a trek around Arenal or swim into the hot springs. We haven't met Monica, but she would always answer very quickly to our emails prior to our arrival, and she was very helpful with the booking details and gave us precious information about what to do around. (Be aware that some places could be closed on Sundays...) We met the housekeeper at our arrival, and she was there to pick up the keys when we left. A very charming person! We enjoyed our stay, especially for the kitchenette and BBQ. We were two couples travelling with babies, and we found it very usefull to have a bathtub.
Monica and Aloys were very animated and accommodating. Their love for Costa Rica knows no bounds. When we arrived they were very warm and welcoming. They gave us a quick walkthrough, handed over the keys, and left the apartment to us. They are very knowledgeable about the neighborhood and suggested places to eat and things to do in the area. They strongly encouraged us to go to Rio Celeste. We went and found it to be the most beautiful river we had seen. It's definitely worth a visit. As for the apartment, it is spacious with many large glass windows and has a very comfortable feeling to it. It sits near the edge of a hill in a remote area that provides amazing views. You'll be tempted to do yoga inside or outside on the veranda while watching the sunrise or set. This place is definitely worth a stay if you want to have a serene and peaceful trip.
Monica and her husband Aloys were wonderful, warm hosts, and they made our first airbnb experience a great one. My wife and I had never been to Costa Rica, and were visiting for a friend's wedding. The photos and description were spot-on. We rarely saw them, yet they seemed to always be around if we needed something. The closest beach. a quiet one, is a short walk away, and the house is also a short drive from several resorts (though you'll be tempted to sit on your private balcony for hours and read or stare at the ocean). We expected to be handed a key and left to our own devices, but their attentiveness and great conversations made it feel more like a B&B. We can't recommend them (website hidden)- if you're really nice, maybe Monica will make you some of her Colombian arepas, which are dynamite.
