Bruce was a great host. He made sure we had everything we needed and was there to greet us at arrival. He had coffee, fruit, bread and honey as a welcome gift for us; also, we had some great teas with the different herbs in the garden!
Doña Cata the housekeeper checked in us and made sure everything was ok. Overall Casa Lily was a great experience and we would definitely come back.
Casa Lily worked out very well for our group. Lily and Bruce could not have been more helpful in every regard of our trip. The location is desirable and the grounds are a sanctuary.
This was better than I'd imagined. The adorable, cozy Lily Rana is so inviting, a perfect homebase for the many activities and adventures around and in San Cristobal. The bed is comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets and a working fireplace in the kitchen/dining area to ward off the chill at night. Many windows and a skylight gives a brightness to every room. Outside the French door in the bedroom is a table and chairs to enjoy morning coffee or evening glass of wine in the garden.
This cottage is located easy walking distance from the sites and landmarks of the lovely downtown walk streets but far enough away to have a serene sense of quiet. Think peaceful sleeping at night!
Finally, both Bruce and Lily were thoughtful and helpful far beyond the duties of Airbnb hosts and made themselves very available for questions or help. I would (will) recommend this site to family and friends who may after seeing my photos, wish to travel to San Cristobal in the future.

We were really comfortable at Casa Lily. This little oasis of three small apartments sharing a welcome small garden and an open bbq area and laundry, is a good 20 minutes stroll to the main tourist hub of hotels and shops. Along the way we enjoyed absorbing local life -- those bright colours painted on every other house frontage that immediately strike us all with their unapologetically vibrant blaze of colours hot pink and purple, yellow and electric blue. And the chickens roasting on coals. Footballs bouncing amongst the children in the Church front yard. Just near Casa Lily is the hillside-located Church up a few dozen steps at the top end of the town's artery Real de Guadalupe. It becomes your guidepost for returning home after your adventures. Our 4 days were easily filled including an exceptional bilingual-assisted day trip out of Town to Chamula country with Alex/Cielo y Tierra Tours. We stayed in Casa Lily Rana which includes glimpses of the Town below rather than a panoramic view. But we were happy with our level floored and peaceful retreat. The elegant house owner, Lily, greeted us and familiarised us with her detailed Town map left for our use. The family recycles and includes chopped wood for the fireplace. Loved the night chill relief of those cosy embers before bedtime. We could cook, make tea and enjoyed privacy and quiet or a chat with our fellow travellers in the other apartments. Slept well. Great shower with plenty of water and heat. Comfy bed and linen. Perfectly working wifi which seems to be the essential travel extra these days! Thanks Bruce for filling the translation gaps and your swift responses to our questions all the way away in Australia!
If you come to San Cristobal, you must stay at Casa Lily, which my sister and I affectionately came to call Bruce's House. 500 words isn't enough to get in all the wonders of la casa de Bruce, but here are the highlights:
1. the grounds - you are surrounded by immaculately kept, lush greens. The view is gorgeous. So much light comes in the windows, which warms the house at night.
2. the owner - Bruce is so nice, laid back, and helpful. Cool guy to talk to.
3. the staff - Dona Cata (the housekeeper) and Juan (the groundskeeper) are absolute darlings - ask them for anything, they are at your service, with huge smiles on their faces. Both of them were more than happy to teach us how to build fires in the fireplace.
4. the architecture - the house is probably the only one of its kind in San Cris - designed by a Swiss architect, who is a friend of Bruce, it is modern, homey, comfy, chic, bright all at the same time - staying at the house was part of the experience, not just a base for leaving stuff and sleeping. It is a space you want to be in.
5. the tricked out kitchen - Bruce provides a blender!! 'nuff said. Walk to the market, pick up some fruits (you can get them already peeled and sliced), throw them in the blender for a refreshing snack.
6. the hot water - the shower was consistently hot with almost no warm up time. such a luxury.
7. the laundry - there is a perfect washer/dryer unit, which can be used free of charge. Wash took about 17 minutes. Dry less than an hour.
8. the price - so incredibly fair as it is, and the quality of the experience is absolutely worth it
We were not pleased with our original accommodations, and were lucky enough to find a space open at Bruce's. We stayed as long as we could (4 nights), and would definitely book again in the future.
Thank you for such an outstanding experience and keep up the good work!
My husband and I had an amazing stay with Bruce over the New Year period. We loved the apartment! It had everything we needed plus fireplace and a lovely garden just outside our window. The place was immaculate and everything worked beautifully. We loved the fact that he takes care of the environment (recycling, solar panels, water cleaning system, etc).
Bruce was terrific communicating with us throughout our stay. He was always a phone call or a text message away when we needed him, and we did. He also waited for us when we first arrived to San Cristobal even though our arrival was late.
In all, staying at Casa Lily was a highlight of our trip through Mexico. We highly recommend it!

About the Host, Bruce
I'm an ecologist living and working in Chiapas, Mexico. I'm also the host at Casa Lily where we offer three sunny, fully equipped apartments: Ixim, Jaguar, y Rana.
As a guest, I'm quiet and considerate, and value a calm night's sleep. My travel usually combines work and pleasure, and almost always involves local food and agriculture one way or another.
