About This Listing
This is a lovely apartment in rustic-chic style. It is located very close (2-minute walk) to the best surf spot in the beautiful and lush beach of Santa Teresa.
The apartment has one bedroom (equipped with A/C) with a double bed, plus two twin size sofa-beds in the living room.
It also has a small kitchen integrated to the living room area, and a bathroom.
The apartment has a porch with a hammock.
The apartment occupies the first floor of one of the three houses that make up Griss Lodge.
The hotel has a lovely garden, swimming pool and jacuzzi, as well as a barbecue area.
This area has hammocks placed in shaded spots, perfect for relaxation.
We also offer you room cleaning service, linens and towels.
Santa Teresa is a perfect beach for surfers and people who love nature. We have our own surf school and can offer you surf lessons and rental boards.
Once here, we will be more than happy to help you organize many other activities in the area.
We can arrange special packages for long stay. Feel free to ask us about it. :)
Griss Lodge is a family-friendly hotel. Most of our guests are surfers. We like to try and keep a relaxed atmosphere here.
We ask our guests not to make a lot of noise early in the morning or late at night.
The swimming pool is open between 8 am and 10 pm.
If you wish to use the barbecue area, all you have to do is ask us, so we can reserve a slot for you. We ask our guests to, pretty please, clean the barbecue area once they are done using it.
Please, no smoking in the house.
Also, we ask our guests to turn off AC, light and fans whenever they leave the house, and to turn on the AC only after closing all doors and windows.
We have 3 dogs and 1 cat. If you have a small pet that you wish to bring along, it is also welcome here.
Griss is a very beautyful place. It's on the mainroad but very quiet with a lush garden and a big pool. The room was very big and stylish! Best design we've seen so far.
The neighbours were in construction so there was some noise, but Griss did everything to make our stay comfortable.
Super friendly staff. Make sure to bring your own basics such as sugar/salt and coffee(pass) if your cooking yourself because there are none!
Would definately stay again.
My wife and I recently spent a week here for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived and Riki helped us with our bags, to the minute we all hugged goodbye, he and the crew were wonderful.
The Apt and grounds are really beautiful, and the hosts work really hard to keep them that way. There's maid service daily. The pool's clean, beautifully landscaped, and perfect for cooling off while monkey/bird/iguana/frog/awesome wildlife watching. With hammocks in the shade, a ping pong table, as well as a large area with tables where you can relax and get online (the internet by the pool was always great) or grill. The hosts are usually around the pool to help with where to eat/go out and reservations. There’s a parakeet that sits in the branches above you while you read and occasionally shouts “Hola!” At night there’s a security guard that patrols, so it feels very safe.
The Griss house is close enough to walk to shops and restaurants, but far enough from the center of town that you have peace and quiet. The beach is a short 2-3 minute walk (As close as you could possibly be) and there’s a great surf shop across from Griss at the beach entrance. We watched the sunset on the ocean almost every night, and it was consistently stunning.
In addition to being our host, Riki gave us surf lessons. There’s a big difference between a surfer and a surf instructor. He's great at patiently communicating and explaining it all. We were riding waves regularly by the end of our first day, and felt very safe while learning. He doesn’t teach year round, but if you’re lucky enough to learn from him, definitely do! We loved the beach so much we ended up canceling all of our day trips to relax there and at the Griss the entire trip. We had planned to take a couple of days to drive back and see more of Costa Rica but we ended up just extending our stay at Griss because we just didn’t want to leave.
I travel for a living, and I’ve stayed at a ton of places all over the world. Before booking it’s important to know that Santa Teresa is not a touristy beach or town. People are extremely polite, but really respectful of everyone’s privacy. As mentioned in a couple of the other reviews, the water pressure isn’t great, and the internet in the apt is definitely spotty at times. That being said, if you’re looking for a luxury spa vacation, then maybe Santa Teresa isn’t for you- it’s a pretty serious surf town. In spite of those minor issues, Griss is an incredibly comfortable and inviting place to hang. The AC in the bedroom works great, and the walls open up to let a great breeze through. When we return to Costa Rica, we just hope we’ll be lucky enough to snag a room at Griss, because there’s just no place we’d rather stay.
Griss was much more than we expected. The pictures really don't do any justice to how amazing this place is. Very close to the beach and a central location, close to restaurants, grocery etc.
The team at Gris, is very welcoming and helpful, they went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Will definitely go back.
Great place, great hosts, actually looks better than the photos show. The reception was open all day long which was very useful. Parking spaces provided and night time security guard appreciated. Only criticism is that our bathroom was quite dark and the shower was not very powerful. Overall I very much enjoyed my stay and would recommend it.
Beautiful place! Lovely hosts! We liked it so much we wanted to stay longer, but they were all booked up. Two minute walk to the beach. Clean, spacious, quiet and bright. Loved our private hammocks on our porch for reading and relaxing. Nice breeze, with big windows that open up. Thank you so much for a lovely holiday!
We really liked the 1 BR Apartment - a good amount of space for two people and very well decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful. We took a surf lesson with Ricky and really enjoyed it! The only drawback we had was the tap water isn't drinkable and the walk to the nearest supermarket for bottled water was a bit of a haul. All in all we'd stay again and would definitely recommend it to our friends with that one caveat.

About the Host, Griss
We are four Italian friends (Selma, Gabriele, Simona and Riki) who moved to Santa Teresa 8 years ago. We built Griss to be the kind of place where we would ourselves love to stay.
The hotel has 6 apartments and 2 bedrooms. All apartments are equipped with small kitchens. The two bedrooms share a kitchen as well.
We are very proud of our garden, with hammocks in shaded spots, a swimming pool and a brand new outdoor jacuzzi. We also have a barbecue area for our guests.
Many of our guests come here for the amazing surf. Waves in Santa Teresa are consistent all year round. We are all surfers, and that is part of the appeal of this place for us.
If you are not a surfer, you can still have an amazing time here. The place is very lush and clean, with lots of wildlife around us.
Santa Teresa has a small town feeling, but still has many lovely restaurants and shops. There are many other fun activities to be done around here, such as horseback riding, yoga, canopies, trips to nature reserves, fishing, or simply walking on our stunning beach. Sunsets here can be incredibly beautiful and are an attraction in themselves.
Do drop us a few lines if you have any questions.
