About This Listing
Enjoy the beautiful rooftop view of the Manhattan Skyline, chill on the balcony, and relax in this totally spacious, affordable spot! 3 blocks from the subway, and 20 minutes from both JFK and LGA by cab. Best value you'll find in NYC!
Rooftop with an amazing view of the city, and a balcony in the apartment itself as well! I moved in in November of 2012 after spending a few years in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, and am very happy.
We have two bedrooms available for rental, both a good size, one set up with a full size bed, the second with a twin bed and a foldout couch, and the living room couch is also available, so we can comfortably accommodate up to 5 people. The building has an elevator, and heating and air conditioning units that can be adjusted to your preference in each room. Building itself is only about 5 years old I believe.
We have a beautiful kitchen with all new appliances, a bathtub with Jacuzzi jets, and again a balcony all our own. :)
We also have ample street parking, which is generally easily accessible (and free) if you choose to drive!
Guests should expect me to be available to help with whatever their travel needs may be, and they should expect to be encouraged to drink wine/other booze that may be hanging out in our kitchen.
Neighborhood is awesome in my opinion - not overrun by gentrifiers yet (though I'm there, which is evidence of the oncoming), but some fun cafes, dive bars, consignment shops, etc.
The J/M/Z are blocks away, getting you into Manhattan in 15 minutes or so. L is also accessible. The apartment is also a convenient 20 minute taxi ride (assuming traffic is normal) from both LGA and JFK airports.
The place is great because the apartment is really nice, the rooftop access is pretty sick, and you can reach any part of the city you'd like to visit from our place with relative ease. Would love to host you!
Guests are more than welcome to eat and drink anything in the kitchen, to cook, to smoke on the balcony or on the roof, to sleep in late, to come home wasted, to use the spare laptop chilling out just for them - to generally take in all things New York! You're more than welcome to cook in the kitchen and use the living room area for whatever you like!
Interaction with Guests
As NYC law dictates, I live in the apartment, but I travel like 4 months out of the year, and stay at my boyfriend's place when guests are in town, so you'll likely see very little of me, though I'll be readily available if you have any questions. :) I want you to love you stay!
Bushwick is artistic and gritty and gentrifying and it has dive bars that I love, and the best pizza you can find in New York, at Roberta's. There's a 24-hour organic grocery story right next to the subway, and great, home-y brunch places, like Little Skips. I truly love my neighborhood.
Yep! It's 3 blocks to the J, M or Z trains. Street parking is free and easy as well (though you'll want to pay attention to the street cleaning schedule listed on the signs), and my place is a 20 minute cab ride from both LGA and JFK.
Other Things to Note
Please also read any books you feel like grabbing, and let me know if you need anything! I want to do whatever I can to make sure that you enjoy your stay!
No smoking inside, but you're welcome to head up to the roof or out on the balcony to do so. Though we love pets, we unfortunately don't host any. Late arrivals are generally very okay, I would just ask that expectations are managed and communication is as clear as possible regarding when you'll arrive so that I can be sure to be awake and available to make your arrival as smooth as possible. Please note that this listing is for a private room, rather than for the full apartment, and that it's illegal in New York to host on Airbnb in a space in which the host doesn't also live, which means I may be in and out occasionally, but I promise to be respectful and discreet when I stop by. Other than that, have fun!
Rachel is a great host. The room/apartment looked just like the pictures. Everything was clean and tidy. Communication was super smooth. Great location in Bushwick. Would def recommend.
We spent 4 days in Rachel's apartment. Everything was great with good facilities. We really apreciate the location and the roof top. We enjoyed our trip in Brooklyn and New York city and recommend the apartment.
Rachel was super nice and a good communicator :)
Her place is a good one for the area! It's very easy to get to Manhattan on the M Line from this 2-bedroom apartment with a balcony... It was clean when I arrived and very comfortable. The building felt safe. The views from the rooftop during the daytime are pretty sweet too :). I feel lucky to have found this ~ would like to stay there again someday :)
The 2 bedroom in Bushwick looked exactly as advertised in pictures. It is a spacious apartment with beautiful rooftop views of Manhattan. Rachel was very accommodating and let us help ourselves to any food or drink left in the apartment. She was also quick to respond to any questions we had and made great recommendations for places to go in the area. I would absolutely stay here again!
Unfortunately, I did not end up staying here. The apartment had not been cleaned; beds unmade with dirty linen, scum and small bugs in bathroom sink. I notified owner immediately and then left as I was uncomfortable staying for even a short while with it in that condition. She said it would be cleaned but never contacted me back to let me know it had been done. I ended up finding a clean nearby hotel, for not much more money.
I was also uneasy at the instructions on how to get into apartment, which required waiting for another tenant to enter or exit to get through the front door. Did not inspire confidence in security in building.

About the Host, Rachel
I'm a 31-year-old tech startup entrepreneur - I founded a company that embeds microlending in mobile games, so that as people play, they can help out micro-entrepreneurs in East Africa, and eventually in other places. We want to transform the definition of gaming so that it always includes social good.
Prior to launching the startup, I made a global documentary about the impact of microlending on women, which was shot on four continents. I used to be a Futures/Equities Trader and left my job to launch this passion project.
I love meeting new people. I love novelty. I think part of my purpose is to do what I can to make the world a better place for women to live, and then it will be a better place for us all.
I'm a low key guest - I love wandering around and exploring a place on my own. As a host, I'd love to help you out and get you acclimated to whatever extent makes you feel comfortable. My schedule is generally fairly flexible, so I'd be happy to invite you along as I'm doing whatever I do in the city, and I'm also happy to give you space to explore on your own - it's whatever you'd prefer. Would love to host you!
