Simple, bright and elegant basement studio apartment, clean and comfortable, within a few blocks of UNM Main Campus, and the Downtown, Edo, and Nob Hill Neighborhoods. Two blocks to Historic Old Route 66, Central Avenue--fun, short walk to bars, restaurants and local shops. Adjacent to Presbyterian Hospital, I-25, and University Hospital. Two blocks to public transportation, including bus, train and air. Walking to restaurants and shops. Casa del Oso is the basment apartment of a historic, 95 year old house, on a residential, tree-lined street. The basement comes with a private entrance and two bikes for use during your stay. You will go to bed with a chocolate on your pillow, wake up to a refrigerator with fresh farm eggs (in season) and coffee. We live on a small farm, that is not at this location. Our guest may contact us for more organic food (in season) or find us at the Albuquerque Downtown Growers' Market on Saturday mornings May to October.
We recently restored and remodeled the private basement studio apartment with loving attention to its contemporary aesthetic: concrete floor, tile shower, exposed wood and brick, plenty of natural light, on a quiet street near a large public park. Our home comes with the use of two bikes, outside patio space and private entrance. The studio has plenty of towels, sheets and fully functional kitchen--gas range, and full sized refrigerator, closet, Britta filtered water system, high speed internet and cable/flat screen TV. No smoking; small pet negotiable. Brand new queen bed; fold out couch for third person or a child. This is a basement apartment; the ceiling will be too close for comfort for people 6'4" or taller. In New Mexico we cool our homes with evaporative coolers; a portable one is provided.
Private entrance and patio. The Key to the door is self serve and in a lock box. Two bikes for use.
The key to the basment is in a self serve lock box. We ask guests to call or text us upon arrival/check out. If guests want more interaction with us it can be requested. We are always available if a need or issue comes up; and the neighbors upstairs are eager to help, as well.
The neighborhood has an upbeat university vibe. Shops, resturants, bars, public parks and downtown fun is all well within walking distance to the basment apartment.
A Public bus runs up and down Central St every ten minutes. Central St is 2 blocks north from Casa Del Oso. Parking is free and on the street. The airport is a ten minute cab ride.
Two working bikes, helmets and locks are out side the back door and free for quest use. We supply the apartment with natural products such as recycled paper products, natural and home made soaps, body products and lotions. When in season we offer fresh farm eggs. If requested and in season organic produce grown on our farm is for sale. We have a full working kitchen supplyed with coffee, tea, spices, and various snacks. We have a iron, hair dryer and books for guest use. The couch is a fold out futon like bed. We stock extra sheets and blankets.

This is a super cozy basement apartment near about a 15-20 minute walk to the University of New Mexico. If you are into yoga, you can bike to Sani Yoga with bikes provided by the apartment and go to an Ayurvedic restaurant Anna Purna afterwards. I really enjoyed the homemade soap and farm fresh eggs also provided by the apartment! Great little place.
What a lovely experience! My partner and I were thrilled with Casa del Oso. We ended up getting in quite late because of flight issues, but Patricia and Scott didn't mind at all. We loved the proximity of the accommodations to Nob Hill (featuring a great co-op, by the way), and the shared road dedicated to bike traffic nearby (and the bikes and supplies that were left for us to use). The place itself had tons of character for a "spare" or "minimalist" space - lots of rustic/industrial charm with a kind of upscale DIY feel (especially the bathroom), and had everything we could possibly need and more for our comfort and cooking needs (even a wine bottle opener, thankfully). Very clean, wonderful linens, a heater for the cooler nights, good television for post-conference vegging, etc. And as somebody who appreciates conscientious purchasing, I was very happy with the products that they chose (not to mention the amazing variety of eggs from their organic farm in the fridge, or their handmade soap).
I would definitely recommend this as an immensely better alternative to a (h/m)otel. It felt just like home, with a New Mexico twist.
Casa del Oso was great for us. It was so near to the UNM campus that my partner was able to walk there daily. There was also a beautiful city park a block and 1/2 away where my daughter and I played daily. The trees there are special.
The apartment itself was clean and well stocked. Patricia and Scott clearly put effort and care into taking care of the apartment and making it welcoming and nice. I felt their generosity through the many towels, soap, bikes, toiletries, leftover food, etc. Even more, they worked with my daughter's nap schedule, allowing us to depart a little late.
I ditto others' comments that due to it being a basement apartment the noises can seem loud. I never found the upstairs' neighbors doing anything out of the ordinary - nothing I'd want changed. It's just the nature of a basement apartment. Additionally, there is a hospital nearby with helicopters flying in sometimes. That was an intense sound for us since we live rurally.
Overall, I feel lucky to have been able to find such a great place for our family. Thanks Patricia and Scott! Beats a motel any day.
We try hard to make it a nice place to stay, and are glad you think so too! Yes, people are living a life upstairs! We keep the price per night at a very affordable rate, knowing this.
When I see and hear the hospital helicopter, I give thanks that some ones life is being saved! Thanks for being a great guest, you all are welcome back any time!
Nice place and great location walking distance to The University a bunch or restaurants and Yoga studios . Just FYI the upstairs neighbors have band practice which can be pretty loud.
This is a great place to stay if you are doing work at the University. It is close to the University (25 minute walk at most and about 10-15 minute bike ride). It was perfect for two people. The kitchen area and living/sleeping areas are nice and spacious, very clean as well. It was great to be able to cook and prepare our meals. The owners are very attentive as well. If we had any problems, they solved them immediately (e.g. flat tire on bike). The wifi internet worked great. I would highly recommend this place is you are working at the University.
The only issue we had is that since it is a basement apartment, you can hear the tenants upstairs stomping around and music playing, sometimes until 10 PM. We also heard this at 8:00 AM on Sat morning. Thus, if you are an early to bed person or a late sleeper and "a sensitive to noise kind of person", this may not be the best place for you. We were up early every morning and working late, so it was not a problem for us.
Other than that - this was a beautiful, spacious apartment and the owners are wonderful!
Great Location! I was able to accomplish what was needed. Thanks guys!
Patricia and Scott are wonderful hosts. We love staying at Casa Del Osso!!
An adorable apartment with a great location! The apartment is located right off Central Ave, close to fun restaurants and shopping, and near I-25 for easy access to other parts of town. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies, so I was able to do some cooking of my own. I didn't have a chance to meet Patricia and Scott, but they were friendly and helpful in all of our communications. Would definitely recommend!
What a great space! The apartment is beautifully decorated. There were plenty of magazines/brochures with ideas for people who are unfamiliar to the area. Great location near a lot of restaurants and bars on Central Ave. The place was very clean and we liked the attention to detail in decor. Also, had a fully functioning kitchen for people that like to cook when traveling. Yes, the ceiling is a bit low, but it made the space feel cozy! Didn't get to meet Scott and Patricia, but they were extremely nice in emails & texts and seem like they would be very helpful if any assistance was needed. Would definitely stay here on my next visit to Albuquerque!
