Casa del Oso Basement Studio apartment is two blocks from Route 66 (Central Avenue). You can easily get around with our bikes or public transportation. Once you get to Central, you go east to the trendy University/Nob Hill neighborhood, or go west to the bustling Downtown. Keep going west on Central to Old Town, Albuquerque's oldest neighborhood, dating back to 1706. The Rio Grande waits beyond. Either way you will enjoy lots of independent shops, restaurants, craft breweries and bars.
Simple, bright and elegant basement studio apartment, with plenty of natural light, clean and comfortable, within a few blocks of the UNM Main Campus, Downtown, and Edo neighborhoods. We renovated this basement ourselves to a rustic industrial aesthetic. Brand new queen sized bed, Ikea like couch folds down to sleep one comfortably, two cozily, and an air mattress. All cotton bedding. Full sized, fully equipped kitchen, and table that seats three with extra chairs. French press, coffee maker, spices. Bathroom has plenty of towels and bath accessories. All the paper products we provide come from recycled sources. We love to ride bikes, so we supply two working bikes with locks, and we encourage guests to use them. Let us know if you need another bike, at an extra cost. Full shared use of the private back yard upstairs, including gas grill, wood barbecue, worm composting bin, and garden. Best for people who like super friendly little brown chihuahua/mutt mixes, because they live upstairs. Ceiling will be too close for comfort for people 6'4" or taller. In New Mexico we cool our homes with evaporative coolers; a portable one is provided.
We are urban organic farmers--NOT AT THIS LOCATION. We make the soap, flora waters, tinctures, and tonics guests use at Casa del Oso. For an additional cost, we will deliver fresh seasonal vegetables to you at Casa del Oso. Between April and November, come see us at the Downtown Growers Market--Simple Revolution? Farm!
Private entrance and patio. The Key to the door is self serve, all hours, and in a lock box. Two bikes for use. The back yard is free to use but is a shared space. The upstairs home is also a Air B N B. The yard with a gas grill and wood fire place is shared.
Interaction with guests
The key to the basment is in a self serve lock box. We ask guests to call or text us upon arrival/check out. If guests want more interaction with us it can be requested. We are always available if a need or issue comes up; and the neighbors upstairs are eager to help, as well.
The neighborhood has an upbeat university vibe. Its a very easy walk--two short blocks to Central, where you will find shops, restaurants, bars, public parks and downtown fun. Access to bus (2 blocks) and train (ten blocks). University professors, professionals and students live in our neighborhood. The neighborhood dates back 100 years. Its about a $12 taxi ride to the airport.
A public bus runs up and down Central St every ten minutes. Central Avenue is 2 short blocks north of Casa del Oso. Parking is free and on the street. The airport is a ten minute cab ride.The train is ten block walk. We provide 2 working bikes/locks, more for an additional cost. You can visit and enjoy much of our neighborhood and city by foot.
Other things to note
Two working bikes, and locks are out side the back door and free for guest use. We supply the apartment with natural products such as recycled paper products, We have a full working kitchen supplied with coffee, tea, spices, We have a iron, and books for guest use. We stock extra sheets and blankets.
There is no cigarette smoking allowed inside the studio. The sidewalk in front of the house has a nice place to sit and smoke. Please-- friendly people only. No noise after ten P.M.--please respect our nice neighbors upstairs--they are happy to help to make your stay comfortable. There is a $50 fee for a lost key. We ask you clean up your dirty dishes and put your dirty laundry in the basket provided. Please text or call upon your arrival and check out.
