About this listing
Austin weekends & events await you in this spacious guest room with private entrance & private bathroom. Walk to downtown, University of Texas and east side entertainment districts, but come home to a quiet retreat.
The house faces a historic, city-owned cemetery. I find it peaceful, hope you will, too.
Welcome to Casa Leona!
We want you to fall in love with Austin. Please be my guest in the spacious home that I share with two housemates and one cat. Staying this close to Downtown Austin puts you in the heart of activity at the University of Texas, the state capitol, the entertainment districts and the festival and conference hubs. Yet, it's also a peaceful, quiet retreat from those same fun places and events.
We are in easy walking distance to great coffee shops, pubs and a variety of restaurants and food trailers.
The Guest Suite:
Spacious and private guest suite is 500 sq.ft and has a private entrance and patio. It is furnished with a queen bed, couch, a few chairs, and a few patio chairs outside. The room includes a mini kitchen with a refrigerator and teapot. You will have a private (small) bathroom with sink, toilet and shower (no bath tub). The room has a stereo and wifi, but no TV. All sheets, pillowcases, and most blankets, are organic.
You will not have access to the main house. If you need to use something, washer & dryer for instance, just let me know and I'll let you in. The guest suite is stocked with helpful items and snacks. It has a big closet for your fabulous wardrobe.
Ask me and I'll try to find those special things you really want: your favorite foods, shopping, reservations, experiences...
Austin won my heart a long time ago. I hope you love it, too! Please enjoy your stay, wherever you decide to hang your hat!
Guests have access to your own private suite, but not the common areas of the house. If you need kitchen or laundry room access, we can arrange it on an individual basis. You will also have access to all the outdoor spaces (front porch and courtyard by your suite).
Interaction with Guests
I'd love to get to know you a little or a lot, based on our plans and needs at the time of your visit. I'm an experienced host and my goal is for you to be as comfortable as possible.
Central East Austin has been through it all. The amazing public art and beautiful people are a reflection of the history of an often poor, but always proud community.
I am proud of this neighborhood and fortunate to have lived here since 2000.
Public transportation: Yes, it's is available, but not up to par for a city of this size. Here's the online trip planner: (website hidden) We are a 2-3 block walk to 4 busstops. Austin has one rail line. The closest stop is about 1 mile from here.
Walking/biking: this is a walkable city, but beware of being super ambitious with your walk. If you walk to an event at UT, you might be exhausted when you arrive. You can walk to the East 6th Street or Manor Road entertainment/restaurants (almost) no sweat!
Renting a bike might just be the way to go! I recommend (website hidden) A bike will get you downtown or to UT campus with a smile on your face and in your heart. Be very careful! Not all drivers are as nice or aware as you!
Taxi/Uber/Lyft: Yes. Uber & Lyft drivers are always available. You can wave to hail a cab downtown, but you have to call from my house (I use 1-800-taxi-cab). My best suggestion for around town and the airport is to cue the Uber or Lyft app.
Driving a car: This can be very helpful. Parking is rough in some places, but cars will get you to the fabulous day-trip outings like wineries and swimmin holes. Here's a rental agency 1 mile from my house: (website hidden)
And check out relay rides: (website hidden)
Other Things to Note
Smoking is ok on the porch or patio.
