This was our second visit to the Barn, and it certainly won't be our last! As ever, Phil & Kathy outdo themselves and go above and beyond our expectations in terms of excellence of accommodation and facilities. We absolutely love this place, and you won't find a better place to stay on Airbnb!
Our host picked us up and brought us to the accommodation. A feast of sandwiches, beautiful cake, and drinks were provided. Everything that could be done was offered and frequently accepted. The drive to Lake District- fabulous. Hawthorn Barn was lovely. Very comfortable. The garden in the back, an oasis of flowers and bare-foot tempting grass.
Phil and Kathy went far beyond any expectations I could have had and make our stay the most enjoyable we've ever had. The barn was exquisite and the area as peaceful and picturesque as we could ever hope for. It was a great time and we will forever cherish our memories of there
What a fantastic introduction to Airbnb, Phil and Kathy could not have been more welcoming, we really loved our stay, only wished we had booked for longer
I genuinely don't believe Phil and Kathy could have been any more welcoming to us on our stay at Hawthorn Barn, what wonderful people and a pleasure to have met. After a 10 hour journey of traffic jams (in the South) we arrived late into the night to a lovely surprise of sandwiches and cake that had been prepared. Totally unexpected and very welcome. The Barn is in a lovely location and, the quality of the interior is excellent and Hawthorn is at the top of the "must visit again list". An absolute pleasure to stay if you are in the area.
When my two friends and I arrived at Hawthorn Barn we were greeted by Phil's wife Cathy and shown around. One bedroom was made up as a twin per arrangement, the living area was very comfortable and the kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals if desired. The best part of our arrival was the food Cathy had prepared (she figured we'd be hungry and she was right). There were plates of sandwiches,a bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine and the best homemade lemon cake I ever ate. Phil came by while we were eating and made us feel at home. It was like we were visiting old friends we hadn't seen in a while and they were so glad we came by. The next day after we had eaten at the chippy down the road and walked back, Phil showed us their back garden with his extensive collection of bonsai plants. Quite impressive! Hawtborn Barn is just outside of Carlisle and popping into town for some groceries was easy. I would highly recommend a stay here to anyone.
About the Host, Phil
Originally from Lancashire but in love with the Lake District, we moved here in 2003. We had been living in Hertfordshire, as I worked for the London Borough of Harrow as a General Education Adviser with a specialism of mathematics. I retired on health grounds ( a chronic back problem) and after both sons had left home, we decided to "get off" the fast moving world of the South East. We have no regrets about the move.
