In the end, our plans changed at the last minute, and we didn't stay with Phil, but he was very charming and helpful on the phone, and was able to be very flexible with our arrival times, as we didn't know what time we would arrive.
Phil & Kathy gave us a fantastic welcome with a feast awaiting us....and wine to help us relax from our long train ride. There were some wonderful resturants near by, even within walking distance. The accommodation was cozy and warm, and with fall nearing, we enjoyed the gas fireplace. Our hosts were fantastic!
Phil and Kathy are wonderful hosts, they made us feel so welcome with chocolates, wine and a delicious sandwich spread. The barn is first class, and the garden is a delight. Thank you Phil and Kathy, it was a pleasure to have stayed with you. cheers Geoffrey, Premi and Gemma.
Wow, what a fantastic place to stay with fantastic hosts! Phil and Kathy were very welcoming, providing plates of sandwiches and cakes when we arrived (all of which were delicious!) and even made special teddy shaped sandwiches for our little boy. They also provided bread, milk, butter etc for breakfast along with a couple of extra little treats! The barn itself was immaculate, a lovely place to stay. I would recommend Hawthorn Barn to anyone and will definitely be back!
Phil and Kathy provided us with an amazingly warm and memorable experience. Their Hawthorn Barn is a beautiful jewel, which has been neatly converted into a five star accomodation.
Phil's knowledge of history and geography was extremely helpful as we went off towards Hadrian's Wall. Kathy's cooking and baking talents were evidenced by the bountiful trove we were welcomed with.
All in all, we were grateful for our very first experience with Airbnb, as well as their fanatastic warm home and welcome. We will not hesitate to return or to recommend it to our friends and family!
Thank you Phil and Kathy!
This was our second visit to the Barn, and it certainly won't be our last! As ever, Phil & Kathy outdo themselves and go above and beyond our expectations in terms of excellence of accommodation and facilities. We absolutely love this place, and you won't find a better place to stay on Airbnb!
Our host picked us up and brought us to the accommodation. A feast of sandwiches, beautiful cake, and drinks were provided. Everything that could be done was offered and frequently accepted. The drive to Lake District- fabulous. Hawthorn Barn was lovely. Very comfortable. The garden in the back, an oasis of flowers and bare-foot tempting grass.
About the Host, Phil
Originally from Lancashire but in love with the Lake District, we moved here in 2003. We had been living in Hertfordshire, as I worked for the London Borough of Harrow as a General Education Adviser with a specialism of mathematics. I retired on health grounds ( a chronic back problem) and after both sons had left home, we decided to "get off" the fast moving world of the South East. We have no regrets about the move.
