Saumen is an excellent host - Thoughtful, helpful, knowledgeable, perfect English, caring, interesting. He researched Gluten Intolerance & prepared 10 Gluten Free breakfasts representing 10 breakfast from different parts of India. He has his own veggie/herb/fruit/spice garden on his balconies, composts food waste, runs solar panels, conserves electricity and water.
Our bedroom and bathroom were always kept clean. Unfortunately our washing was damaged due to colour running & subsequent ironing for which Saumen compensated us.
The location is excellent with a Reliance Supermarket, ATM, bottleshop, pharmacy, eateries, street stalls, clothing/material/tailor shops all within easy walking distance. Also an excellent dentist (Dr Anmol Shah - family dentist to our Indian son-in-law and his family) just around the corner who did 2 root canals and 2 ceramic crowns for a fraction of the cost they would have been in Australia.
A few things we feel fellow guests need to be appraised of:
1) You can not hop naked out of bed and run into the bathroom. Although it is exclusively yours, it is across the hallway that links Saumen's personal living area with the living room.
2) Saumen is an occasional smoker and discreetly smokes on the balcony but there are times when we smelt smoke.
3) We were not given a key so needed to keep Saumen informed of our comings and goings. It felt a bit awkward waking him in the early hours, but it never bothered him.
4) The a/c above the bed was noisy so just used the ceiling fan to sleep at night.
5) 2pm is pigeon feeding time on the living room balcony. Consequently we were woken at day break by cooing pigeons on the bedroom balcony. They obviously feel at home around Saumen's apartment
Mr Biswas was an excellent host. Went out of the way to make me feel welcomed and at home. Been travelling for over 20 years - first place I have seen that never made me feel as I am out of familiar territory. Other places have infra structure - this place has a soul. Highly recommended.
Mr Biswas is a gracious and generous host who made our trip a comfortable and memorable one. The room is clean and well-maintained and Mr Biswas is a great cook. Request him to rustle up authentic Tam Brahm-style idlis with the special chutney -- or delicious butter chicken -- each is MILES ahead of the stuff you get in 'good' restaurants. All in all, a great place and a great host!
Mr. Biswas made my stay wonderful and memorable, to the extent that I immediately signed up for another stay. He is a gracious host, well traveled, well informed and environmentally conscious - all of which reflect in the experience of the guest. The breakfasts were delicious, the room and bathroom were clean and he went out of his way to make my stay comfortable. He offered valuable advice on the city for a first time visitor like me, for which I am grateful.
Stayed here in Dec 13 for a night with my wife. Very nice and comfortable.
Saumen is a good host - caring, un-intrusive, but always helpful and available for a chat if you need one.
The room is clean and well equipped with whatever you might need.
Saumen also provides a great breakfast, He even threw in a lovely lunch (hot rotis, fresh chicken curry) for me and my wife, free of charge. And was very flexible with check-out.
The bathroom is not attached - something not apparent pre-booking, but that was not a concern for us, as it was very clean and well equipped. And bang opposite the room, so no privacy issues.
The location is great - Wanowrie is a classy part of Pune & Raheja Gardens is one of the best places in the area, with several eating options for various budgets and cuisines available within a stone's throw. As well as rickshaws to get around.
All in all, a nice stay, that was value for money, and that I'd have no hesitation in repeating again.
This was my very first bnb stay and it was very different from the usual stay-in-the-hotel experience. For one, the interaction and engagement was a lot personal.
Saumen Biswas is an excellent host. I had asked him if I could drop in earlier than the check-in time and he quickly agreed. He in fact called me up to give me directions. When I eventually did reach his place, he had already set the water heater on and brewed up some tea when I asked for it.
The house has 2 bedrooms, one of them being the guest room where I stayed. The room does have internet but it's not wifi, so I couldn't use it. The bathroom was very clean (it seemed absolutely new and redone). I had access to the living room where I could watch television.
The breakfast in the morning was pretty amazing as well. Saumen is a wonderful cook and infact has a spice garden where he sources some of his ingredients from. I had a bowl full of cut fruits and a perfectly well-done omelette. The room does have internet but it's not a wifi, so I couldn't use it.I was in a hurry but would have loved to stay a while longer and try some of his other delicacies.
All in all, a great (website hidden): on a different note, Raheja Gardens on Google maps is incorrectly placed. Don't trust the location on the map.
