The Space

Since I have to be abroad for my work pretty often I am very happy to offer you my apartment which is located in one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city called 'De Jordaan'. This part of the city is located within several canals and is one of the oldest parts of the city. The apartment consists of 3 bedrooms, a living room with pull-out sofa, a kitchen with a dining table, bathroom with bathtub and shower and one separate toilets. The two bedrooms on the topfloor both are both supplied with two single beds and the bedroom on the floor beneath is supplied with one single bed. The pull-out sofa in the living room is suitable for one person so that I can accomodate 6 persons.

As I already mentioned the apartment is located in the neighborhood which is called the Jordaan. The neighborhood is full of cafes, pubs and restaurants and you will find public transport within 5 minutes walking.
The following attractions are also within walking range from the apartment:

Anne Frank-House, 5 minutes walk.

Dam Square: 10 minutes walk
With its famous Royal Palace and the National Monument ,is situated in the heart of the city and is a must if you want to go sight-seeing. The Dam Square connects the Kalverstraat and the Nieuwendijk, which are the two main shopping streets of the city, with each other. On the square itself you will find the city’s biggest department store, called: De Bijenkorf as well as the world famous Madame Tussauds Wax figure museum.

Leidseplein: 15 minutes walk.
The Leidseplein is one of the most vibrant hotspots of the city, around this square you will find several Pubs, Clubs, Restaurants and a Cinema, the world famous Coffeeshop The Bulldog is situated in the middle of the square next to Grand Café Heineken Hoek and from the tram stop ‘Leidseplein’ it is a 2-minute walk to the Holland Casino, Amsterdam’s biggest Casino.

Museumplein: 17 minutes walk.
The world famous Museumplein is one of the most popular attractions of the city, around this square you will find the ‘Rijksmuseum’ which is Holland’s biggest and most important museum with a collection of more than a million art-objects, made by 17th century Dutch masters.
The Van Gogh Museum and the recently completely renovated Stedelijk Museum are also situated around this Square.
From the Museumplein it is a 5-minute walk till the Albert Cuyp Markt, Amsterdam’s famous street market

Rembrandtplein: 20 minutes walk
This square is named after Rembrandt, the world famous 17th century Dutch painting master and is one of the most popular entertainment area’s in the city with its Pubs , Discotheques , Clubs , Cinemas and Restaurants.

Red Light District: 12 minutes walk
One of the most touristic, busy, popular and exciting parts of the city and at the same time also one of the most historic and oldest parts of the city.
Nowadays it is famous for its erotic character.
On the ‘Nieuwmarkt’ you will find a great range of restaurants and pubs and in the summertime a lot of terraces.
Famous attractions in this area are the Casa Rosso Sex Theatre, the Banana Bar Stripclub and the Old Sailor (pub).

  • Pros:
    - good communication with the host
    - quiet neighbourhood
    - enough space for 6 people...big living/kitchen
    - 15-20 min walk to city center
    - nice restaurants where locals would go to eat
    - bike rental shop close by

    Cons:
    - not cleaned properly before arrival...pretty dirty and a really strong chlorine smell just to cover :(
    - staircase was really filthy...looked like an abandoned place (even at main entrance in the building)
    - no toilet paper/soap for at least basic arrival needs
    - towels looked dirty....we washed them again

  • The apartment is localized in a good neighborhood. It means that you can do lots of things by walking.
Our group (five) had enough space and there is a charming view at the sundeck.
The place, however, wasn't clean. The stairs are really really hard - I don't recommend it for people who have any problem of locomotion. The bathroom clogged up several times after shower - there isn't a good flow for people's hair and the shower drain gets constantly blocked.
In spite of these problems, it was a good experience because we wanted to be in group, we needed a good localization and we didn't want to go to a hotel.

  • We were a group of 6 to visit Amsterdam and we had a very pleasant stay in this apartment. It is well located in Jordaan, but be prepared to walk to get to the centrum though.

There's not much to say about the apartment since it was just like what we expected, however there was only one toilet, the second was locked upstairs.

The stairs are VERY narrow AND steep. It should be taken into account for people with pain in the legs/knees or aged people or young children.

Shower and bathroom were correct, not crappy not shiny either. Bed were not prepared but bedroom were comfortable, beds were more than correct and linens were clean. Wifi was a bit erratic, stoping to work from time to time.
Also to be noted that we didn't found much shops nearby.

All in all we had a very great stay in the apartment, it is in a great location and Amsterdam is really a nice city to visit, so much that you'll probably be in the apartment only to sleep or to take a small break before the night, and in light of these facts this apartment does more than the job.

  • The house is nice but the stairs are steep. Not suitable for people with loads of luggages. The view Is good and got a balcony also. The dish washer is broken and the kitchen is quite dirty. However the washing machine is good.

  • We used the apartment with four adults for three nights. The contact with the hostess Ester was nice and friendly and we were able to check in earlier. The apartment has much space and is well located. Close to the center, to supermarkets and to the tram. The apartment is to climbed with a steep staircase – consider your luggage!
Unfortunately there is a BUT – maybe do to our early check-in, the apartment wasn’t cleaned up. There have been a lot of different hairs everywhere in the apartment, the cover and pillows showed different kind of stains. There are only 3 glasses in the kitchen, the dishwasher doesn’t work, but it has been explained to us someone will come and fix it – it doesn’t happened. The pictures in the advertisement showed a second toilet, but it did not exist.
All that didn’t take down our mood and we really enjoyed Amsterdam and be sure to come back again one day to that nice city.

  • We had a nice stay in Amsterdam. One nice and friendly guy showed us the appartement and went through everything important. BUT the hostess should change the description of the apartement, because there is not two toilets, one is used for storage. The dishwasher didn`t work and we were waiting for somone to come at fix it - they never showed up. If you are planning on cooking your own meals, don`t - the kitchen does not have the equipment for that, no bowls, only one size of plates, not enough cutleries and utensils for cooking, nothing to serve meals in, three glasses for 6 people.
The bed.sheets was washed, but even though there where big black spots on it - looks like greasy oil spots that coulden´t come off. The bathroom and toilet was clean but the rest of the apartement was not clean. There where hairy stuff on the floor in all rooms.
So in all too expensive for what it was worth.
The apartement is located perfect in walking distance to most thing - too bad the inside wasn´t what we expected.

  • Two guys met us there and handed over the keys and walked us through everything. If you plan to use the washer /dryer, have them show you how it works.

The apartment worked well for us, we liked the location, it's in a great neighborhood, pretty quiet at night. We would probably rent it again. The grocery store isn't right around the corner as others have mentioned, but not too far away, maybe a 10min walk. Red light district is about a 25 min walk, about the same to Centraal station. Tram lines 17 & 10 to central area, or Museum area are pretty close, we used them a few times. There are lots of nice restaurants in the Jordaan, many are concentrated a few block north of the apartment.

We had a group of 5 adults, there is room for a couple more. The first floor of the apartment is on the 4th floor of the building (using the American system, ground floor = 1st floor). As mentioned by many others the stairs are very steep, this wasn't a problem for us, but it could be for old people, or those with injuries.

The lower floor consists of a good sized kitchen/dining room. The kitchen has minimal pots/pans/plates bowls cups, utensils, etc. Barely enough to get by, but we made it work. We had breakfast here everyday, and cooked a few dinners. The stove and oven both worked. The dishwasher had a VERY strong chemical smell coming from it so we didn't use it. There is a small fridge and freezer. no microwave oven.

A TV room that has a sofa and futon, and a folding bed, so you could sleep about 4 kids in there or a few adults. There is also a bedroom on this level with 2 twin beds. And a toilet, the only one. I thought this could be a problem for 5 of us, but it was fine. There is WiFi, it worked fine for us.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, each with 2 twin beds. The beds are OK, not super comfortable, but not terrible either. The back bedroom has a rooftop terrace outside. There is a laundry room, with a shower and separate bathub. Shower worked well. Clothes washer worked fine but we had problems with the dryer. The dryer worked at first, one or two loads, but then we couldn't get it to dry anything, it spins around, stops for a while, spins some more, but no heat, so we gave up. European appliances are kind of baffling, with overly complex controls, cryptic icons, no words, very different than what we are used to in the US.

There are radiator heaters in all rooms, they worked well for us, we were plenty warm.
