About this listing
The sailboat Zephyr offers a very original solution for those who want to discover from close the amazing old city centre, just a few steps away from the main cultural attractions in town, monuments, gardens, theatres, bars and restaurants. Enjoy!
In the heart of the historic centre of Palermo, a stay on a sailing boat moored by the old port of the Cala is surely very original and charming way to discover from close the amazing, though controversial, old city centre.
The sailing boat is very cozy, both inside and outside. The bow cabin sleeps comfortably 2 people, while there are at least 2 more single beds (berths) for 2 adults and a 2 persons sofa-bed (dinette). Considering the standard spaces on a sailing boat, the toilet is quite comfy (electric waste pump, no manual!) and the kitchen just like home, with all necessary amenities.
The breakfast is self catering with fresh products provided at arrival by the owner (coffee, thee, milk, cookies, season fruit). If you have special needs regarding food, it can be arranged on request.
The boat is easily accessible from the dock at the marina, by using a rubber ladder placed at the bow. However it is not really advisable for small children or for people having mobility issues. In fact the access aboard requires a bit of agility and it is not advisable to bring along too much (and not too large) baggage.
Interaction with Guests
Guests will be welcomed on board and will get a detailed explanation on practical things you need to know (see house rules). Guests will receive a city map and a printed version of the personalized guidebook, a list of tips which you can find on the booking summary.
For the sailing lovers, when the weather conditions would allow it, it is possible to hire a skipper on request for a unique day sailing on the beautiful sea around the city. This can be agreed at reception. The price depends on the length of the trip, how many guests on board and kind of services (for instance including lunch).
The old harbour promenade has been recently renewed, allowing the locals and the tourists to enjoy a very unique walk along the moorings and the renovated gardens, just a few steps away from the main cultural attractions in town, monuments, gardens, theatres, bars and restaurants.
During your stay at the boat you won't need a car. The boat is at walking distance to major point of interest in the old city (bars, restaurants, monuments). If you arrive by car you can easily park on the street in the nearby area (free parking).
The boat is easily accessible from the dock at the marina, by using a rubber ladder placed at the bow. It is not really advisable for small children or for people having mobility issues. In fact the access aboard requires a minimum of agility!
It is not advisable to bring along too much (and not too large) baggage.
•Please use a plastic bag, inside the little door where the toilet brush is located, to throw paper, tissues, tampons, ear-sticks, etc.
•Flush the toilet long enough to bring all the dirty water out of board (approximately 15 sec.). You can you is as long as you want, because it is seawater.
•Always keep both water taps closed when not in use!
•Please pay attention with mixing hot water, since it can be very hot and it arrives slowly after using the tap mixer.
•Use the shower pump (black button on top left of the washbasin to empty the water on the ground after shower.
•Control electricity panel, second switch from left.
•We suggest to keep the boiler off at all times. About 30 minutes before having a shower, put the boiler on (if the switch goes down while warming up, just put it up again).
The boat is obviously not directly connected to the water system. The water is stored on board in 2 big tanks and the water reserve might finish, if you use too much water or take too long showers.
You will notice when it is almost over, because of the lower pressure and the water pump remaining on, when all the taps are closed. In case you need to fill up the tanks please follow carefully the instructions below:
1. Put first the switch of the water pump off (“AUTOCLAVE” in the switchboard – black with red switches - behind the radar display).
2. Fill the water tank* from pier by using the yellow hose.
* PLEASE PAY ATTENTION: USE ONLY THE WATER HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE BOAT (RIGHT SIDE LOOKING AT THE BOW). BE CAREFULL NOT TO USE THE DIESEL TANK TO FILL WATER!!!!
3.Put the switch of the water pump back up in the switchboard (see 1)
Only 2 fire plates work properly (2nd and 4th starting from the left). The other 2 do not keep the flame on. If you feel more comfortable, you can close the gas bottle form inside by using the gas throttle on the left storage shelf in front of the fire plates.
KEYS AND VARIOUS
•Use only the padlock to close the boat when going out. It is not necessary to use the lock in the little door.
•Close well the hatches and the portholes, especially if you think it might rain.
•You need the key of the main gate to get out of the mooring. When checking out of the sailboat do not forget to open the gate first and then come back to put the keys inside and close the boat with the padlock.
