El cuarto fue limpio y bastante suficiente! Los dueños fueron muy amables, y nos dejaron desayunito cada mañana.
Don Jofree is an amazing host!. He makes you feel secure and comfortable. The place is very convenient to go everywhere and safe neighborhood.
The best thing about this place is for sure the safety! To me that was important because I was in Costa Rica for a month doing a study abroad program with my law school. I felt completely comfortable walking around the area day and night.
Second, the room was reasonable with a small television and small closet to hang my clothes. I'm a bit spoiled at home because I have a temperpedic bed so my back was hurting in this bed but I think that's mostly because I'm spoiled with mine at home.
One small gripe: it's a little frustrating that cleaning supplies, trash bags etc were all locked so we couldn't really replace them if we were taking the trash out or trying to clean. We had to call Gerardo's dad to come unlock the cabinets to let us replace stuff.
The kitchen is small. I wish there were more cooking utensils and pots/pans that were ok to use...the ones in the kitchen were older and everything stuck to them. I had to go to the market to buy a kitchen knife because there were only a couple of butter knives. But obviously this is so problem for you at all if you plan on staying for a few days only.
The "breakfast" stuff they provided I could have been fine without. I never ate it except for some of the bread. You're better off buying good products at the market.
I really like the outside space - the living room, dining room, and there is an outside space that overlooks San Pedro that was really nice.
The internet worked the entire time I was there except for the last 3 days...something happened, not sure what. But Gerardo's father was working on it as soon as I sent a message to them so I can't complain for not trying.
The laundry was fantastic to have there. I washed regularly and it worked just perfect!
This place is a great place. Breakfast is there in the fridge toaster is there coffee etc. You can drink the water. There's a supermarket 10 minutes away. It's a nice area and the beds are comfortable. The front room is very noisy with traffic and animals. Internet works brilliantly. Gerado organised a pick up for us from the airport and Gerado sent his mum over to take us and our kids to the local swimming pool and the janitor collected us and we gave him $20 for his time. Overall it was a good starting point for our trip. There's other people staying there and it's peaceful and we felt very safe. We didn't understand about the breakfast situation(it's help yourself diy) but Gerado was always communicating very quickly to help us if we needed anything. Thanks Gerado we will come and visit again.
Very accommodating host. The beds were clean, towels and soap were provided, laundry/dryer too, he even gave us a spot in the fridge in which he stocked with bread/butter/milk/coffee for free. Value can't be beat. Good if you have a car, otherwise it is kind of far from San Jose commercial area.
Gerardo's place was a nice final stop before leaving Costa Rica. It was clean, had decent amenities, and located in a safe area of San Pedro. I didn't meet Gerardo, but he did a great job communicating with me via email and text.
Two things to note: (1) It's more of a guest house with multiple rooms than a hostel (no reception area or manager on premise, at least during my two day stay). (2) It was difficult for my taxi driver, as well as another Tico friend, to find. If you're using KFC as a landmark, keep in mind that there's two in San Pedro. You don't want the one next to the mini mall, which is where my driver dropped me. Gerardo was nice enough to send his father to pick me up when this happened. Once I arrived and got my bearings, I didn't have a problem finding the house again. I'd recommend arriving during the day just in case you get lost.
