About this listing

Maison Marais 1 is a large, one-bdrm, Victorian home, built in 1891, 3 blocks from the newest streetcar line on St Claude, and footsteps from the newly-renovated St. Roch Market (multiple food stalls, coffee, oyster & wine bar). Experience the charm of Faubourg Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods (with many restaurants and coffee shops) and be within walking distance to Frenchman Street and the French Quarter. Original high ceilings and fireplaces. Six music/bars within 2 1/2 blocks.

The space

Live like a local in this Victorian double in New Marigny. Experience the charm of Faubourg Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods (with some of NOLA's best restaurants, coffee shops and music clubs) and still be within walking distance to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter. This listing has a large living room, larger than most rentals, and right next door to New Orleans' best music, food and culture. It is 1/2 block from the newly-renovated St. Roch Market. This home retains the original 12' ceilings, fireplace mantels and hardwood floors.

NEIGHBORHOOD
This house is footsteps to the newly-renovated St. Roch Market in the New Marigny neighborhood and the St. Claude Arts and Entertainment District (art walk 2nd Saturday of each month), adjacent to Treme and Faubourg Marigny. It is perfectly located for exploring the quaint neighborhoods of Marigny and Bywater with their restaurants, bars and coffee shops; the music clubs and restaurants of Frenchmen Street; and all of the bling and glamour of the French Quarter by foot. There is a bus line one block away that connects you to the French Quarter, Canal Street, the convention center, Magazine Street, City Park, and St. Charles Avenue. If you are driving, it is easy to park right in front of the house.

There is a typical neighborhood bar across the street on the corner with a small restaurant. The New Orleans Food Co-op is 1/2 block away, and the St. Roch Market, with many food vendors, an oyster bar, coffee bar and more.

Note: The street view from the website is out of date and does not show the recently opened St. Roch Market (with food stalls, oyster bar, coffee bar, wine bar) or the New Orleans Healing Center (with grocery, yoga studio, voodoo shop, police office, restaurant, coffee bar and juice bar, nightclub, and health club.) It is now a major focus of this neighborhood. The historic St. Roch Market, 1/2 block away, has recently been renovated.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS
Whether it's eating, listening to music, thrift store shopping, hanging out in coffee shops, doing yoga or going to a small theatrical production, you can find these things within blocks of Maison Marais. There's plenty of day and night life here. Many guests visit the French Quarter on their first day in New Orleans but choose to stay close to home during the rest of their stay.

New Orleans attractions that are easily accessible (via walking, cab or short drive) include Frenchmen Street, the French Quarter, the Aquarium, the Insectarium, City Park, The New Orleans Art Museum, Sculpture Park, and historic cemeteries. Venture further away by taking the streetcar to the Garden District, and Audubon Park and zoo; or jump on a bus to the shops along Magazine Street.

I've posted a guidebook to some of my favorite local places and am always available for suggestions and ideas about activities, restaurants, etc.

SHORT STAYS AND SPECIAL OFFERS
If my calendar shows only 2 days available, please feel free to request a 1- or 2-night stay (instead of the 3-nights suggested minimum). If I can accommodate you, i will. If you'd like to book just 2 days and there are more available, I may accept a request but with an additional $30 cleaning fee.

WHY STAY AT MAISON MARAIS?
If you're the type of person who enjoys stepping out the the typical tourist traps and wants a home away from home where you can live more like a local, this is for you. Have the comforts of a large home to spread out in and to come back to when you need a rest. Besides the two bedrooms, there's a separate living room and large kitchen, providing more space than most other accommodations. So close to many things, one doesn't have to go far to feel right at home in New Orleans. If arriving by air, I know a local cab driver who can pick you up at your gate, avoiding the cab queues, and drive you directly to the house without any additional costs over the standard rate to and from the airport. If interested, be sure to ask for her contact information. Also, there is a bus from the airport for $1.50 plus a transfer. 1/2-1 hour.

*******************************************************************************

NEED MORE ROOM?
Maison Marais 1 and Maison Marais 2 are two sides of a single house. So, if one side does not offer you the number of beds or rooms you need, please check out the other side. Both listings have calendars that you can view online.

If you'd like to book Maison Marais 1 or Maison Marais, please provide me with the number and names of each guest and a little about you and the purpose of your trip. Additionally, let me know the number of beds you need, plus your estimated arrival and departure times. Many thanks!

Georgia was a fantastic, extremely responsive and caring host, showing us around the neighborhood, giving us suggestions, and responding to all our questions or concerns very quickly. The house itself was very nice and charming, with comfortable beds and a good amount of space so 4 people actually didn't feel crowded. The neighborhood was in a very convenient location for us to explore the rest of New Orleans, and having St. Roch's market only a block away wad amazing as well.

Beautiful house and Georgia has the little touches for any type of getaway. Very close to public transport to get to the French quarter (still walkable). Highly recommend staying here. Thanks

My friend and I had a wonderful stay. The location is close enough to all the fun that NOLA has to offer but far enough from all the noise. Host was awesome! Rental was CLEAN, spacious, and the beds were comfortable...not mushy not too firm. We would stay again and recommend to our friends and family.

What an amazing place Georgia has. And what a wonderful host she is! Georgia was so helpful and friendly. The neighbourhood feels safe and quiet and is walking distance to the French Quarter. There are bars and St Roch Market really close by too. We had a great time meeting so many people in the neighbourhood – even went to a house celebration nearby. The house is roomy, comfortable and beautifully decorated and accommodated the three of us perfectly. Thank you, we had a truly special time in New Orleans.

This was my second time renting this place and I am so happy I chose to return. Georgia is a wonderful and quick communicator. She answered any and all questions within hours and went out of her way to accommodate our check-in/check-out. The apartment is wonderfully clean and spacious and stocked with everything you could need. Not only did she meet us at the house to answer any questions we had, she also provided us with wonderful neighborhood recommendations. I first stayed here just over five years ago when the neighborhood was still developing and I cannot believe the changes that have been made since I was last here! There is the BEAUTIFUL St. Roch market which is just at the end of the block and we were there every morning for delicious biscuits and iced coffee and often ended our nights there with oysters and cocktails. What a gem to have so close by! I cannot say enough nice things about Georgia, the house, or the neighborhood. Everything was perfect! I cannot wait to book my next trip here.

Georgia was a great host and the apartment worked perfectly. We were close enough to walk to a lot of the neighborhoods we wanted to see. The place itself is very cute, has all the essentials and was perfect for two couples to enjoy a long weekend exploring a great city.
