The Space

Now with new curtains and wrought iron beds. Photos have not yet been updated.

Live like a local in this large 2-bedroom Victorian double in New Marigny. Experience the charm of Faubourg Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods (with some of NOLA's best restaurants, coffee shops and music clubs) and still be within walking distance to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter. Most listings in this price range are for one-bedroom rentals, so this entire house is a deal for size and proximity to New Orleans' best music, food and culture. This home retains the original 12' ceilings, 3 fireplace mantels and hardwood floors. Best fit for 2 singles or 2 couples. Designer "Twilight" sofa converts to 2 twins or 1 king for additional 1-2 people.

This house is in the New Marigny neighborhood and the St. Claude Arts District (art walk 2nd Saturday of each month), adjacent to Treme and Faubourg Marigny. It is perfectly located for exploring the quaint neighborhoods of Marigny and Bywater with their restaurants, bars and coffee shops; the music clubs and restaurants of Frenchmen Street; and all of the bling and glamour of the French Quarter by foot. There is a bus line one block away that connects you to Canal Street, the convention center, Magazine Street, City Park, and St. Charles Avenue. If you are driving, it is easy to park right in front of the house.

There is a typical neighborhood bar across the street on the corner with Brandito's, a Mexican-inspired restaurant. The New Orleans Food Co-op is 1/2 block away.

Note: The street view from the website is out of date and does not show the recently opened New Orleans Healing Center (with grocery, yoga studio, voodoo shop, police office, restaurant, coffee bar and juice bar, nightclub, and health club.) It is now a major focus of this neighborhood. The historic St. Roch Seafood Market, 1/2 block away, is now under renovation.

Whether it's eating, listening to music, thrift store shopping, hanging out in coffee shops, doing yoga or going to a small theatrical production, you can find these things within blocks of Maison Marais. There's plenty of day and night life here. Many guests visit the French Quarter on their first day in New Orleans but choose to stay close to home during the rest of their stay.

New Orleans attractions that are easily accessible (via walking, cab or short drive) include Frenchmen Street, the French Quarter, the Aquarium, the Insectarium, City Park, The New Orleans Art Museum, Sculpture Park, and historic cemeteries. Venture further away by taking the streetcar to the Garden District, and Audubon Park and zoo; or jump on a bus to the shops along Magazine Street.

I've posted a guidebook to some of my favorite local places and am always available for suggestions and ideas about activities, restaurants, etc.

If my calendar shows only 2 days available, please feel free to request a 1- or 2-night stay (instead of the 3-nights suggested minimum). If I can accommodate you, i will. If you'd like to book just 2 days and there are more available, I may accept a request but with an additional $30 cleaning fee.

If you're the type of person who enjoys stepping out the the typical tourist traps and wants a home away from home where you can live more like a local, this is for you. Have the comforts of a large home to spread out in and to come back to when you need a rest. Besides the two bedrooms, there's a separate living room and large kitchen, providing more space than most other accommodations. So close to many things, one doesn't have to go far to feel right at home in New Orleans. If arriving by air, I know a local cab driver who can pick you up at your gate, avoiding the cab queues, and drive you directly to the house without any additional costs over the standard rate to and from the airport. If interested, be sure to ask for her contact information. Also, there is a bus from the airport for $1.50 plus a transfer. 1/2-1 hour.

Maison Marais 1 and Maison Marais 2 are two sides of a single house. So, if one side does not offer you the number of beds or rooms you need, please check out the other side. Both listings have calendars that you can view online.

If you'd like to book Maison Marais 1 or 2, please provide me with the number and names of each guest and a little about you and the purpose of your trip. Additionally, let me know the number of beds you need, plus your estimated arrival and departure times.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the entire house, but the laundry and small office space are not officially part of the rental.

Interaction with Guests

I like to greet my guests at check in when possible . If not at check in, then some time during their stay. I am often on the premises and am available but respect my guests privacy. I do not enter their spaces without prior notice and consent.

  • It was a real treat staying here. The pictures don't do the apt justice, it's so spacious and well furnished.
Georgia was beyond kind and accommodating, taking time to explain all the local spots and buses to us. The apt is just a short 15 min walk to the French Quarter and the area had some nice spots in the as well (especially the Allways Lounge and Theater). I'd definitely recommend staying here, and I stay here again!

  • This was my second time in New Orleans as well as my second time staying at Maison Marais.
I love staying there because Georgia is an incredibly attentive host who will take a real interest in you, and will go out of her way to communicate with her guests to make sure they have a great time when visiting the city.

The house itself is amazing, very clean and decorated with great taste. The neighborhood is a little scruffy, in the best possible way, filled with friendly locals who will enjoy having a drink and a chat in the bar across the street from the house.

All in all, Maison Marais is a great listing that I would (and have) recommended to friends without hesitation!

  • Georgia's home was a wonderful homebase for our New Orleans visit. We became comfortable with the neighborhood quickly and felt safe there. We loved the nearby Who Dat Cafe as our coffee stop on our walk into the French Quarter. The home was very comfortable and clean. The only thing that would have made our stay more enjoyable was if we could have met Georgia in person. Even though she was out of town, she was in touch frequently answering questions and offering suggestions. All around positive experience.

  • The accomodations were fabulous as always! This is my 3rd time to stay with Georgia and it is always a treat. Georgia has become a dear friend over the years and I highly recommend staying at her property for the opportunity to make her acquaintance. She loves New Orleans and has much info and insight to offer to enhance your stay in the Big Easy.

  • Great experience with Georgia! Place was clean and beautifully furnished. I'd describe the location as a block that's mildly sketchy, but it didn't detract from the experience.

Georgia is a fantastic host and would gladly book with her again :)

  • Georgia was a great host and really flexible when I had to change our reservation slightly. The apartment is just as nice as it looks in the pictures if not nicer and it is super clean. The neighborhood is decent, it is a little farther than I thought it would be from Frenchman St. We would walk to places but we cabbed it home at night, which costs less than ten dollars. Also, don't be afraid of the buses, they are cheap and there is a stop just two blocks from her house.

  • Me and my family had a great time at her place. The house is very clean, cozy and comfortable. The location is also perfect. The area was quiet and really close from the French Quarter.

Georgia is very thoughtful host. Georgia visited the place when we arrived, and she gave good information about restaurants, bars, transportation, and so on. She tried to help us as much as she can. Also, she already prepared restaurant menus, recommended bars and restaurants, maps and guide books. Everything was perfect during the travel.

    Strongly recommend her place.

  • I cannot emphasize enough what a wonderful time we had a Maison Marias. Georgia has a flare for interior design and really did the most with this space. This was a true oasis for four ladies exploring a new city. I would highly recommend staying here to any New Orleans prospectives and will absolutely request to stay here on my next visit.

  • My partner and I had a great stay at this lovely place. Very clean and bright, and I love having the key code on the door instead of a physical key that you have to keep track of. The location is a nice happy medium between shopping and going out in the Marigny and Quarter and our friends who live in the Bywater. Though we weren't able to meet up with Georgia due to her needing to leave town on family business, she kept us updated on the neighborhood happenings and checked in via text and email. We will be recommending this place to friends and keep it in mind for future trips.

  • Great spot, amazing location. Georgia was a very easy guest. She was three for three on good restaurants for recommendations.
