This house is in the New Marigny neighborhood and the St. Claude Arts District (art walk 2nd Saturday of each month), adjacent to Treme and Faubourg Marigny. It is perfectly located for exploring the quaint neighborhoods of Marigny and Bywater with their restaurants, bars and coffee shops; the music clubs and restaurants of Frenchmen Street; and all of the bling and glamour of the French Quarter by foot. There is a bus line one block away that connects you to Canal Street, the convention center, Magazine Street, City Park, and St. Charles Avenue. If you are driving, it is easy to park right in front of the house.

There is a typical neighborhood bar across the street on the corner with Brandito's, a Mexican-inspired restaurant. The New Orleans Food Co-op is 1/2 block away.

Note: The street view from the website is out of date and does not show the recently opened New Orleans Healing Center (with grocery, yoga studio, voodoo shop, police office, restaurant, coffee bar and juice bar, nightclub, and health club.) It is now a major focus of this neighborhood. The historic St. Roch Seafood Market, 1/2 block away, is now under renovation.

Whether it's eating, listening to music, thrift store shopping, hanging out in coffee shops, doing yoga or going to a small theatrical production, you can find these things within blocks of Maison Marais. There's plenty of day and night life here. Many guests visit the French Quarter on their first day in New Orleans but choose to stay close to home during the rest of their stay.

New Orleans attractions that are easily accessible (via walking, cab or short drive) include Frenchmen Street, the French Quarter, the Aquarium, the Insectarium, City Park, The New Orleans Art Museum, Sculpture Park, and historic cemeteries. Venture further away by taking the streetcar to the Garden District, and Audubon Park and zoo; or jump on a bus to the shops along Magazine Street.

I've posted a guidebook to some of my favorite local places and am always available for suggestions and ideas about activities, restaurants, etc.

If my calendar shows only 2 days available, please feel free to request a 1- or 2-night stay (instead of the 3-nights suggested minimum). If I can accommodate you, i will. If you'd like to book just 2 days and there are more available, I may accept a request but with an additional $30 cleaning fee.

If you're the type of person who enjoys stepping out the the typical tourist traps and wants a home away from home where you can live more like a local, this is for you. Have the comforts of a large home to spread out in and to come back to when you need a rest. Besides the two bedrooms, there's a separate living room and large kitchen, providing more space than most other accommodations. So close to many things, one doesn't have to go far to feel right at home in New Orleans. If arriving by air, I know a local cab driver who can pick you up at your gate, avoiding the cab queues, and drive you directly to the house without any additional costs over the standard rate to and from the airport. If interested, be sure to ask for her contact information. Also, there is a bus from the airport for $1.50 plus a transfer. 1/2-1 hour.

Maison Marais 1 and Maison Marais 2 are two sides of a single house. So, if one side does not offer you the number of beds or rooms you need, please check out the other side. Both listings have calendars that you can view online.

If you'd like to book Maison Marais 1 or 2, please provide me with the number and names of each guest and a little about you and the purpose of your trip. Additionally, let me know the number of beds you need, plus your estimated arrival and departure times.

  • I just returned from a visit with my children in NOLA. We were very happy for the comfortable accommodations. I was very extremely pleased there was coffee and milk so no need to go to the grocery store. Georgia was very helpful in telling us about the local restaurants and things to do. The house was very clean and well decorated. I was very glad that the neighborhood was quiet. I would definitely go back!!!

  • Georgia was a great host! She made us feel very welcome. She showed us her huge book full of restaurant menus, maps of the area, things to do in New Orleans and more. She then took us for a walk around the house to show us what was around it. It was very helpful. Almost each day, she emailed us events that were going on that day. The house itself was very nice. I would definitely recommend staying at Georgia's place. She is a great lady :)

  • Nice little house that worked out perfect for our needs. Georgia is always in contact to make sure you are taken care of. Loved her recommendation for a taxi driver Mrs. Carol.

  • New Orleans did not disappoint, nor did Maison Marais 1 or our host Georgia!
Wonderful accommodation well located for walking to Frenchman St., breakfast restaurants, dinner, drinks & music. Georgia will help you out any time you need it and will provide emails with tips on where to go and things to see daily. Nicely appointed home made our home away from home a joy to go back to each evening.
    Can't wait to return.

  • Although we missed Georgia during our stay, she was readily available via phone and email. The house was well equipped and was within walking distance of all the main attractions. It was a bit of a trek to the French Quarter by foot but was well situated for exploring many of the other neighborhoods in New Orleans like the Marigny and Bywater which have many excellent restaurants, bars and live music venues. If you are looking to experience all the diversity that New Orleans has to offer, this is a great home base. The house itself is very nice and charming, and we loved the handsome chickens two doors down! Note that there are no doors between the rooms, although they are separated by heavy curtains; this is standard for shotgun houses. Prior to arrival, I’d recommend you situate yourself with the cross-streets as certain taxi drivers seemed “unfamiliar” with this street, although it’s not hard to find. Thank you Georgia!

  • Georgia is a great host, and her place is just lovely. Our group of 5 (one couple, three singles) fit nicely onto the 4 sleeping surfaces. The beds were really comfortable, and there were no complaints about the fold-out sofas/mats either! Georgia provided ample information on what to do and see in New Orleans, and was a very gracious host. I would definitely recommend her space for anyone looking to stay within walking distance from Frenchmen St. and all the good food and music that's found there! The Marigny neighborhood is great fun, too.

  • This was our first Mardi Gras and being at Georgia's house was the best place to be. It was a WONDERFUL place and the location was great! The Marigny is a fantastic place to be. It's a quiet, charming and very friendly neighborhood. The food and music scene are great. We could easily walk to the french quarter or jump on the st. Claude bus if we were too tired to walk. The food co-op and Walgreens were an easy walk for provisions when we tired of eating out at all the amazing local restaurants. Georgia dropped off the most delicious king cake on our 2nd day, which was really unexpected and sweet. Her daily emails with the days events and answers to any of our questions were very helpful and informative. The house was very clean, comfortable, and well taken care of. It rained a lot but we were happy to be inside her warm home and using her excellent wi-fi and reading her books. Thank you Georgia for a great experience.

  • The apt was very comfortable, clean and totally equipped. Decor was somewhat eclectic -- and that's a positive. No TV but, what the hell, you can do that at home! The neighbourhood and its residents are wonderful; there's lots to do nearby and the French Quarter is about a 15-minute walk. Parking is easy on the street.

Georgia herself is very engaging yet unobtrusive and keeps in touch regularly by email to advise of goings-on about town. She really wants her guests to have a good time and can provide tips on just about anything.

Next time, I plan to spend an entire month here!

  • Georgia is a fantastic and very professional host! She was always easy to get in touch with and her place is stocked with all kinds of information about the immediate neighborhood as well as things to do all over the city.

The apartment is adorable and very comfortable. There is a washer/dryer (which really comes in handy) plenty of cookware and tableware and she even stocked us up with cereal, oatmeal, tea coffee and fresh OJ!

The neighborhood itself is perfectly located; Frenchman St., the French Quarter and Bywater are easy 20 minute walks and it’s nice to come back home to a quiet part of town.

Lastly, Carol, the cab driver that Georgia recommended,is an invaluable resource. She is knows the city, is fun to talk to and is one helluva driver!

    We will definitely be back!

  • Excellent House in nice neighborhood. Walk to Frenchman Street or French Quarter in about 10-15 minutes. Good choices for food and drinks within 5 minutes walking distance. Georgia is super nice and knowledgeable.
