This bamboo cottage is a secluded eco retreat down a quiet foot path nestled in the rice fields and only a five minute walk to central Ubud. Open air basket weave bedroom with mini loft, modern elegant bathroom and outdoor living area make this a truly unique Bali experience.
This is a woven house made almost entirely of bamboo. It is open air and as close to living in nature as you get.
Guest can access caretakers kitchen or can have food catered. They will be provided with morning coffee and a light breakfast delivered when you awake on the patio overlooking a lush greenery as far as the eye can see.
You are welcome to fresh goats milk and organic veggies from the neighboring organic garden and can enjoy hikes on the many trails that border the property.
We check in with guests daily and are helpful in navigating your stay in Ubud. We have staff available to assist you with your every need. If you choose to dine in ubud and return after dark, someone will greet you and walk you back to your room. They will place Incense and offerings at your door daily and make sure your space is clean and you have what you need. If you choose you can order a massage or a meal catered in your room. There is nothing more spectacular than having a candlelit dinner under the stars. We will make sure you feel safe and very well cared for.
This is a hidden spot literally just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Ubud with its restaurants and shops, but it feels lost in time and like a total retreat. In the day you will only meet rice farmers and local women blessing the rice. At night you will only see fireflies and hear the rushing river, crickets and the distant sounds of the temple. You can enjoy the many hiking trails, order a massage in the natural surrounds or enjoy a home cooked meal organically grown out of the garden as you feast on the stunning views of rice terraces.
You can walk to town in five minutes or we are happy to rent you a scooter or arrange a driver for longer excursions.
This is a unique place and is not for everyone. It is eco tropical living at its best but with that comes nature in all its glory. Things to note: There is no air-conditioning although because of the location there is a constant cool breeze and you may even enjoy the quilt we provide at night. This cottage is a woven basket with a living bamboo and traditional grass roof leaving it totally open and in nature. Some people have asked about security. It is very secluded and very safe. However if you have valuables we are happy to lock them up for you. We have staff available to assist you and ensure you have what you need at all times. You will be very well cared for.
Sleeping in nature is something most of us don't do as we sleep in sealed rooms. It can be transformative to sleep in a natural setting, open to the cool night air, listening to the crickets and chirping geckos, the sounds of the nearby rushing stream with the fireflies glittering in the night. Don't let the unusual openness of the space deter you, this is an experience you won't soon forget.
This place was absolutely magical. It may not be ideal for everyone, but I loved being in the rice paddies and in the open air. The cottage is gorgeous with beautiful artistic touches, the staff is so kind, and meeting the farmers was delightful. Spent lots of time just enjoying the amazing views. Host was lovely, with great stories and info about life in Bali. Truly one of the most remarkable places I have ever stayed.
Although we didn't see wayan himself, we had two very memorable nights at the cottage. definitely an experience! very good breakfast cooked by the two caretaking brothers
This was one of the most magical places I have ever stayed… I am going to say what everyone else said. I wish I had booked for longer. You will not want to leave. The view is remarkable, the sounds at night put you to sleep. The running water from the creek and the crickets are like music. Then the peacefulness of the rice fields during the day made me actually not go into town for very long on my first day. Words cannot describe this experience. Staying here will be one of the best decisions you make on your trip.
The bed was very comfortable and the shower… oh my if I only had one like that at home. Not only was it a nice shower I loved showering under the stars.
Some of my concerns and things I wondered about before I came:
-There are lights and outlets under the bed.
-WiFi is available through a USB key.
-Mosquitos are almost nonexistent. However, I wore a non-toxic bug bracelet most of the time out of the net so maybe they just stayed away from me because of that. There are other bugs and spiders but come on you are in a hut in the middle of a rice field.
-Security isn’t much of an issue. They will happy lock passports and other things you are worried about in the main house. If you are really worried the bathroom does have a door and you can use a full size padlock on the door to keep things secure. However, I think you better give the main house a key or combination so the wonderful staff can clean for you. Honestly, the only time I felt intruded on was by some tourists and not the locals working in the field. I think it is uncommon for my experience with the tourists.
-I didn’t realize there was breakfast but it was delicious and the deck was amazing to eat it on.
-The staff is beyond friendly and I loved seeing them whenever they came by.
Overall book now and add at least 2 nights to how long you thought you wanted to stay.
very nice house, clean, comfortable,
The cottage is just what you have seen in website. It's so unique and open that my friend was scared when I was enjoying it. But after one peace night she loved it. You can sit inside while watching the fireflies in rice fields.
Wayan is a gentle man and his staff always smiled. The breakfast was delicious. There is no wifi in the cottage but Wayan lend his wireless network card to us.
It's really difficult to find by yourself,so I'll suggest you to call to Wayan picking you up.
We really enjoyed our stay at the bamboo eco cottage. It was in a beautiful setting and only a 10-15 minute stroll to Ubud center. The people who brought coffee and breakfast every morning were very friendly. If you don't have a problem with the occasional critter, I highly recommend this place, and I will absolutely stay again if/when I go back to Ubud.
An amazing place to stay, I highly recommend it!
We arrived at the Bamboo Cottage and were immediately blown away by the structure - it is beautiful! Our initial concerns about the lack of doors (coupled with friendly locals walking past) were gone after a chat with the lovely host, Rainy. She put our minds completely at ease and indeed for the three nights that we stayed there everything was secure and our privacy was unaffected by the locals - in fact we had some excellent conversations with them!
Rainy's staff were a delight, delivering us food and fresh water and even cutting huge leaves for us to use as umbrellas when we needed them. Rainy was the best host we've had. She was friendly, loaned us a SIM card, organised our dinner to be delivered one night, made the best fruit and muesli for us for breakfast each day (she also offered crepes and eggs but the muesli was too good to pass up), as well as offering us plenty of information on the area and even organising a tour of the rice paddies and water temple with her friend on our last day in Ubud. Rainy was also really good with communication prior to our arrival, and made herself available to us throughout our stay - she was there if we needed her but never intrusive.
Back to the cottage itself - it is stunning. So unique and well put together, with all the little things taken care of. Fresh water, comfortable bed, mosquito net and spray, fresh flowers, gorgeous decor and HOT water - one of our favourite memories of our holiday in Indonesia is standing in the hot outdoor shower in the middle of a monsoonal downpour!
Despite the cottage being completely open to the elements it is watertight and secure; we didn't even notice many mosquitos. The cottage is an easy walk to the centre of Ubud and to wake up in the middle of a rice field is something you'll never forget.
Wayan was a very helpful and accommodating host, making our stay worry free. We loved seeing the rice fields and coconut trees when we woke up and feeling the breeze in the morning and at night. It was a great peaceful alternative to staying in central Ubud without being far away. I would love to stay here again the next time I'm in Ubud.
It is a very nice place, great view, very open. It could be too open for some people but for me and my husbund, we really like it.
