Bamboo eco cottage in rice fields

Hut - Entire home/apt · Br. Ambengan, peliatan, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

This bamboo cottage is a secluded eco retreat down a quiet foot path nestled in the rice fields and only a five minute walk to central Ubud. Open air basket weave bedroom with mini loft, modern elegant bathroom and outdoor living area make this a truly unique Bali experience.

The Space

This is a woven house made almost entirely of bamboo. It is open air and as close to living in nature as you get.

Guest Access

Guest can access caretakers kitchen or can have food catered. They will be provided with morning coffee and a light breakfast delivered when you awake on the patio overlooking a lush greenery as far as the eye can see.
You are welcome to fresh goats milk and organic veggies from the neighboring organic garden and can enjoy hikes on the many trails that border the property.

Interaction with Guests

We check in with guests daily and are helpful in navigating your stay in Ubud. We have staff available to assist you with your every need. If you choose to dine in ubud and return after dark, someone will greet you and walk you back to your room. They will place Incense and offerings at your door daily and make sure your space is clean and you have what you need. If you choose you can order a massage or a meal catered in your room. There is nothing more spectacular than having a candlelit dinner under the stars. We will make sure you feel safe and very well cared for.

The Neighborhood

This is a hidden spot literally just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Ubud with its restaurants and shops, but it feels lost in time and like a total retreat. In the day you will only meet rice farmers and local women blessing the rice. At night you will only see fireflies and hear the rushing river, crickets and the distant sounds of the temple. You can enjoy the many hiking trails, order a massage in the natural surrounds or enjoy a home cooked meal organically grown out of the garden as you feast on the stunning views of rice terraces.

Getting around

You can walk to town in five minutes or we are happy to rent you a scooter or arrange a driver for longer excursions.

Other Things to Note

This is a unique place and is not for everyone. It is eco tropical living at its best but with that comes nature in all its glory. Things to note: There is no air-conditioning although because of the location there is a constant cool breeze and you may even enjoy the quilt we provide at night. This cottage is a woven basket with a living bamboo and traditional grass roof leaving it totally open and in nature. Some people have asked about security. It is very secluded and very safe. However if you have valuables we are happy to lock them up for you. We have staff available to assist you and ensure you have what you need at all times. You will be very well cared for.

Sleeping in nature is something most of us don't do as we sleep in sealed rooms. It can be transformative to sleep in a natural setting, open to the cool night air, listening to the crickets and chirping geckos, the sounds of the nearby rushing stream with the fireflies glittering in the night. Don't let the unusual openness of the space deter you, this is an experience you won't soon forget.

  • If you have made it to this page, then hit the book button! A really awesome experience, we loved our stay there so much. Highlights were walking around freely in the rice paddies, relaxing and enjoying the views and peaceful surrounds, the walk in to Ubud was pleasant and did not find it too far at all even with our 2 young kids. Rainy was super helpful and recommended some lovely places to eat and things to do. She offered to arrange dinner to be delivered to the cottage if we didn't want to head out. Thank you Rainy for a very enjoyable, memorable and beautiful stay. All the best, it was so lovely to meet you and look forward to visiting again!

  • The ONLY bad experience that we have ever had in Bali! We are two twenty-something's who love nature and camping under open sky's, so the lizards, spiders and wasps that nest in the roof of the cottage were the least of our worries. We felt misled and ripped off, you are literally only paying to sleep in the cottage; there's no soap, no hot water, not one little tiny complimentary thing! the mattress was smelly and only had one loose sheet thrown over it. It is owned by an American lady who was there to greet us when we arrived (very disappointing, as we were looking forward to meeting Wayan who is the apparent host), she told us that her staff don't work weekends then showed us to the cottage (which yes, is just as beautiful as it looks in the photos-the only true thing). She only supplied breakfast, which is fine but it does mean you have no choice but to go out for dinner in town and find your way back in the dark. She explained this and said she would return quickly with a flash light and cellphone with her number on it incase of emergency. She didn't return, we waited until dark, but luckily we had a tiny key ring light that did the trick. If we didn't have that we would of been stuck there hungry all night! When we returned, the electricity in the cottage was out, it was pitch black and the water is run by power too, so we couldn't even flush the toilet, or brush our teeth.. Straight to bed! In the morning we were happy to see a local bring us breakfast, but again disappointed, one fried egg on a crustless piece of white bread and a cup of tea. Doesn't sound bad, but in Bali you will be spoilt with fresh fruit and beautiful produce for your money anywhere else that includes breakfast! We paid him to help us carry our bags and see us off! And that was it. No host, no comfort, No service or hospitality and nobody there on call to help you(if you needed it or just wanted some advise/direction). We loved looking out into to rice fields in the pitch black and it was nice to see the peaceful surroundings, but that's Ubud! You can pay for kind and welcoming service and comfort, AND see the rice fields in many other places in Ubud. Support businesses in Bali that employ more staff and take more pride in what they do. Trust us.

  • A magical place where dragonflies and fireflies watch over rice fields, where you feel one with nature, waking with the sunrise. Nurtured by home made joghurt granola fruit goodness in the morning. Showering - under the full moon and star filled sky - will never be the same.

  • THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY IN UBUD AS IT'S TOTALLY MAGICAL!!! Wayan is the best host ever!! Her recommendations were perfect and the bungalow is just amazing!!! Everything spotless and in the middle of spectacular rice fields. She helped us with everything from the motorbike rental and some really useful tips with restaurants and activities. Thanks so much!!!! Nothing but great experiences with her.

  • An incredbly special place. The cottage which is solid and yet breezy feels very private and is surrounded by the rice paddies and ducks and frogs and the rushing stream.

I went to bed early and listened to all this, and watched the fireflies. Seeing the sun come up was magical too. Pancakes for breakfast!!

My host was a delight and gave me lots of tips and advice on where to go. Her staff were charming. All in all, I can't speak highly enough of this place and wish I'd stayed longer.
