Hi! I’m a floral designer who lives in Brooklyn who has a boyfriend who lives in Harlem. I end up spending a lot of time in Harlem. So I’d like to share my warm apartment to travelers like you!
The apartment offers complete privacy. A very spacious 600 square feet is all yours. You can be as grumpy as you want to be before your first coffee!
It's a railroad style apartment that has northern light in the bedroom and southern light in the kitchen at the other end of the apartment. In between is a little office, separated from the bedroom with French doors, and a living room.
I love plants and flowers, so my apartment is full of them! It gets a lot of sun throughout the day. It definitely has a very cozy feel.
If you’ve never been to New York, you’re probably drawn to Manhattan, but I have to say it’s Brooklyn now that holds New York’s pulse and dynamism. My neighborhood is vibrant, young, and artistic. Around the corner is Roberta’s, called "one of the more extraordinary restaurants in the United States" by the New York Times. A block away is also an organic deli and cafe. There are lots of bars within a few block radius of here. You’ll have everything you need, if you want to stay close to home.
But you're here to see New York, so the subway is literally next to my doorstep--you can’t be closer! It takes an average of 20 minutes to get into Union Square, the heart of the East Village, and 15 minutes to get to Williamsburg--a must-visit Brooklyn neighborhood.
Linens, towels, soap
Fully stocked kitchen
And of course, flowers!
I look forward to hearing from you!
This was the loveliest place I stayed at during my visit to NYC! Doan was so welcoming and her home exceeded my expectations! The bed was so comfortable, I slept better there than my own bed! The apartment was warm and the neighborhood overall pretty quiet, with lots of little coffee shops and grocery stores nearby; the train was literately a few steps out the door which was very convenient! Doan left a basket full of teas, coffee, cookies and some fruit for me, along with some food in the fridge. I was very comfortable, warm and cozy; it was beautiful, clean, and wonderful to come back to after a long day in the city :) Thank you Doan! It was perfect!
I am writing this review on behalf of my parents who stayed in Doan's apartment when they came to visit me in New York and I cannot recommend it enough! The place has a lovely welcoming energy and Doan has styled it out beautifully with vintage furnishings and lush plants. It really was the perfect haven for my parents after a busy days sightseeing and they said they actually looked forward to coming home which is saying something in a city like New York!! Proximity to the subway is a real bonus too, especially for those wanting easy access to Manhattan. There is a cement works out the back which does start up early but Doan gave my parents plenty of forewarning (even before booking) and provides ear plugs for light sleepers. Doan herself is lovely to deal with too and made the booking process incredibly easy. All in all a wonderful experience - thanks Doan! I will be recommending you and your apartment to my friends!
Doan is a great host and her place is THE place to stay in NYC.
We had the pleasure to be there for six nights in Dec/Jan, during the polar vortex craziness. Doan's apartment proved to be a real oasis - providing coziness, comfort and warmth while it was -15°C outside.
The place is conveniently located (just on line L) for visiting both Manhattan and Brooklyn, while its immediate surroundings offer more than you can ask for - several 24/7 supermarkets, a few coffee places, and some restos and bars - including Roberta's.
Upon arrival Doan herself welcomed us warmly, offered us a breakfast basket (including earplugs for street noise), a neighborhood tour, AND a some recommendations for places around.
The apartment is beautiful, relaxing, full of lovely plants, and its decor is so pleasant that we decided to steal some of Doan's ideas for making flat into a home.
It's a true oasis in the heart of Brooklyn.
You should stay there, so book it now!
This was the best experience. My boyfriend and I traveled to Brooklyn for the Christmas holiday and stayed at this perfect apartment. It's even cuter in person! Doan was fantastic and made us feel right at home. She even had a basket of goodies waiting for us! I strongly recommend Doan and her amazing apartment. We were close to anything we could have wanted. The subway was right close by... very convenient. Could not have asked for a more gracious host or a better stay for our Christmas getaway!
Doan is a very friendly and welcoming host. My girlfriend and I stayed for 5 nights before christmas and had a very good time. The metro station couldn't be closer, the appartment was friendly, big, warm and clean. The only downside were the noises which Doan informed me about in advance of the booking: There is a factory nearby where trucks are getting sand from. She provided ear plugs for quiet nights, coffee and tea for a fresh morning start and helpful tips for the surroundings. I'd be glad to stay there again.
We had the best 4 days and nights in New York one could wish for in Doans wonderful appartment! Everything was as beautiful as in the pictures, she really has put alot of effort and energy into her home making it a very unique experience. She was a great host too, leaving us a breakfast basket which we couldn't even eat up in our stay and it was a pleasure communicating with her in advance.
All in all i can only highly recommend staying with her, we had a great time - thank you so much!
I can really recommend this apartment - everything was just perfect! it's a really nice apartment (exactly like the photos) and we felt like at home! Doan is a great host and I would love to see her again, she is such a nice person!
Doan's apartment is located in a young, 'hip' (!) area amongst a mix of old industrial sites and new bars, galleries and cafes. The area is not as gentrified as Williamsburg (yet!) but felt safe with people around all the time. Within 1-2 minutes walk there are grocery stores, cafes, restaurants and best of all the subway (to Manhattan through Williamsburg) is actually at the front door, which is very handy when you've spent conquering New York and are ready to crash! Doan was incredibly helpful providing us with long lists of great things to do and eat that we probably would never have found ourselves, in a fortnight we couldn't get through it! We found her to be an excellent and fast communicator. The apartment was clean and Doan provided us with a lovely hamper of breakfast supplies and snacks. It's obvious Doan has put a lot of thought and effort into her home, being a fellow plant-lover we found our stay felt homely and comfortable. Of course we can't leave out our secondary host, Willoughby (the cat) who was the best company, incredibly friendly and and one of the highlights of our stay!
We stayed in Doan's apartment for 1 week, it is the perfect place to stay after a long day walking through New York City. The neighborhood is really nice with great restaurants just around the corner.
The apartment is lovely, beautiful and well furnished. Doan provided us a bucket with breakfast for the week, which we appreciated a lot.
Doan is so kind, she explained in details everything we had to know about her apartment.
I would add that the cat, Willoughby is so cool, he loves to play and to cuddle.
I would definitely recommend this place and would definitely come back.
Doans apartment is absolutely fantastic!!
Doan was such an amazing host. She asked about our breakfast preferences and had some breakfast goodies waiting for us when we arrived!
The apartment is seconds from the L train which gets to Manhattan in no time! The area itself was also fantastic! It has a great grocery store, cafe and some restaurants nearby. The area has a really great feel, definitely worth exploring! The apartment is so beautiful, truly an oasis!
If you have the pleasure of looking after Doans cat Willoughby, he is a absolute delight and very easy to look after.
