About This Listing
CASA RINCON DEL CIELO
Our guests enjoy THE SWEETEST HOLIDAYS with opportunities for surfing, whale and bird watching, hiking, or just relaxing and basking in the warmth of our Baja Sur lifetstyle. Casa Rincon del Cielo ( Corner of Heaven) is part of an 18 acre parcel located on the very popular surfing beach of La Pastora. It is bordered and surrounded by hundreds of acres of open space, a sprinkling of homes and ranchos, cardon forests and arroyo habitat as well as miles of beautiful beach.
During winter months Grey Whales frolic just offshore and Humpbacks can be seen further out. Rincon del Cielo provides our guests with the opportunity to see and experience some of the wildness of Baja but is only 5 miles from the center of town with its restaurants, galleries, various festivals and other points of interest. Enjoy the flavors, sights and sounds of town and then slip back to the quiet of the country. Drift off to the sounds of breaking waves and awake to the singing of the birds,
The casita at Rancho Rincon del Cielo lies about two hundred yards from the beach which is accessed by a private gate onto the sand after a short walk through the native bush. It is built of straw bales and is finished on the inside with traditional adobe clay and a lime plaster. The two foot thick walls provide a special character and overall feeling of comfort. The living room and kitchen feature a brick domed " boveda" style roof providing a huge airy 15 foot high ceiling. Hand painted Mexican tiles are lavishly used in the kitchen and bathroom. Red flagstone accents the meter high foundation, stairs and planters. The house was designed and built using as much local and natural building material as possible, giving it a character of rustic elegance.
Rancho Rincon del Cielo is a self-sufficient property with both its energy and water. The Casita has its own solar powered energy system as does the main house which is far enough away to insure privacy but close enough to provide assistance at any time. The solar energy system can adequately handle reasonable energy usage. Blow dryers are not allowed as they use huge amounts of power in a matter of minutes. Smoking is fine on the porch.
This is a comfortable casita in a great location. It is private and out of town by just the right distance. It is quiet and had everything we needed for a wonderful week stay. A beautiful short walk through the desert brings you to an awesome beach. Steve has done a great job in making access to this wonderful part of the world pretty easy. We could have stayed put on the covered patio the whole time but we did travel around to see many of the other local beaches.
Highly recommended! Especially if you love being close to nature. Fabulous flowers, birds, scenery, sounds, sunrises and sunsets. To top off the great location the hosts were gracious and accommodating. The casita was gorgeous, clean and comfortable and the kitchen spacious.
Such a pretty casita with every necessity--plus some lovely niceities!
The location is stellar. The walk through the cactuses is awesome, morphing from desert to dunes in the course of a 5-minute stroll.
Steve and Jen kindly met me in town when I arrived, driving from the Cabo airport. There was construction, and, late at night, it would have been extremely challenging to find this delightfully remote gem however detailed the driving instructions.
Steve was helpful when things cropped up (including deftly liberating a "baby" hunter spider, who'd wandered inside and said hello in the shower).
Abundant bottled water, kitchen was great, especially since I had/prepared almost all meals at "home." Plates, utensils, glasses, mugs, pots and pans absolutely perfect--and nice!
I loved the size of the casita, the light was wonderful, and was clean and gorgeous. I liked that Steve was not too far away, but you're also in your own totally private Idaho.
All times of day views from the casita are super nice--as is the aural landscape--mourning doves, songbirds, ubiquitous crashing surf.
Perdita the dog was a fun companion on beach sojourns, and a lively player with thrown sticks.
My trip was not the typical "adventure holiday" landing couples and families at Cielo Rincon. I lost my beloved 1 month ago, and starting a new job 3 days after returning home. I've been exhausted, and let Steve know ahead of time I was seeking , more than anything, a retreat--quiet private peaceful place to roost and relax--and that I got.
Perhaps ideally guests "unplug" from the 21st C, but I had no choice personally and professionally but to stay in touch via email. I found a corner of the casita that almost always has strong internet connection - fabuloso and much appreciated!
The casita is wholly powered by solar, which is extremely cool--and my first experience with that. Unfortunately, one night up reading and listening to music I used too much electricity, and the next day Steve had to rev it back up via generator. I felt terribly but in this and other matters Steve was helpful and accommodating.
The experience overall was extremely positive. I would like perhaps to return one day, perhaps with a friend or friends, when in a more outgoing and adventuresome frame of being, and believe it would be an equally enjoyable if somewhat different kind of experience. The place and location is such a gem.
We had an amazing stay at un rincon del cielo ! Thank you Steve for welcoming us in and providing great advice on where to go and what to do while we stayed in Todos Santos. The house is amazing - more than adequate for two people. The photos do not do it justice, it's just beautiful. We spent a lot of time reading on the porch, watching the birds and later walking to the beach to watch the sunset. Highlights from town definatey included oysters at resteraunt y bar Bahia, touring the church and eating just about everywhere. Surf at Cerritos is good in the morning and very consistent . The break out front looks good when it's going ! Thanks Steve and family for providing Such an amazing experience!
Steve's place was perfect for us - exactly as advertised, clean, awesome location and beautiful beach just steps away. Our mornings usually started with a walk along the beach watching the surfers and then breakfast down the road at La Esquina. We had fun exploring Todos Santos and La Paz and the casita was always a lovely place to come home to at the end of the day to enjoy a crib game and a drink on the patio as the sun went down. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area.
The host was great. The casita was great. The beach was great. Todos Santos is a quaint town with a unique personality. Many ex-pats from Canada and the US reside there full and part time.
A few suggestions:
Know some Spanish if you want to shop on economy.
Take a drive through the pepper farms.
Take a drive to the top of Todos Santos.
Take a drive to Cerritos Beach.
Take a drive in the early morning to Puntas Lobos.
Eat at Bahia.
Enjoy great coffee and breakfast at La Esquina.
Get cocktails at Posada La Poza at sunset.
Go to the city museum on Hidalgo.
If you have time, drive to La Paz and Los Barilles. The roads are good.
Get cocktails at Hotel California, Todos Santos Inn, and the Cerritos Beach Club.
This is one of those rare cases where the actual property is even better than the photos. Clean, comfortable, quiet and great location -- close to town but not in it and a spectacular 5-10 minute walk past cacti, birds and plants to get to a long and generally isolated beach. Somewhat hard to swim because of rocks and currents, but it is possible and, in any case, off-shore whales make up for it. Solar power is no problem, and host Steve and family (and dogs) are accessible yet not intrusive.
We really liked our time here so much last year that we planned an 8 night stay this year. With a rental car, there is easy access to Todos Santos while being far enough away to enjoy the quiet, the birds and the surf. The casita is well furnished and cool on hot days. Solar power was not problem.
So good to see you two again. Also glad that Jennifer got to meet you this time around. I hope your trip up to Loreto was wonderful.
I'll look for some beach chairs and yes I know about the light. The one we had there burned out and I haven't seen anything that is small enough yet attractive enough to put there. Thanks for pointing out though.
About the Host, Steve
I've been living on this property continuously since 1997 and I still wake up every morning grateful for where I am. We have a clean healthy ocean to play in with turtles, seals and whales. The birds are happier than anybody and sing all day. I traveled all over the planet in my 20s, 30s and 40s but always came back to Baja where it all started when I was 15. I love the life I live and I live the life I love.
My kids were born and raised here. They speak Spanish and English and have a foot in two cultures, Mexican and United States. They love to eat Chinese food in San Francisco.
My wonderful partner, Jennifer, is an amazingly creative artist and has a fantastic gallery/store in town, Galeria Alas y Olas.
We have met many great and interesting folks from North America, Australia and Europe in the years that we have rented the Casita. It's always a pleasure making new friends and sharing our " corner of heaven" with them. We hope to share it with you as well.
