Casa Zen, a beautiful 1899 historic home, features 3 units. You'll be in the apartment on the main floor, a gem of a spot. We share an entrance and foyer, and the apartment is entirely yours. You'll enjoy a 1-bedroom with a Queen sized bed, small walk-in closet and adjacent new bathroom, a full (and fully-appointed) kitchen, your own laundry + additional closet/storage area, plus an airy living room (which includes a queen-sized pull-out sofa-bed) and eating nook. 4 people can comfortably stay here, though note that the bathroom is off the only bedroom.
Our home features a gorgeous wrap-around front deck and Japanese maple, with a sweet outside eating spot.
Casa Zen is located in inner SE Portland, and is very accessible to multiple key locations and routes. We are 3 blocks from the Ross Island Bridge which gives you immediate access to downtown attractions, shopping and business via car or multiple bus lines. We are close to the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and the Springwater Corridor Trail that takes you along the Willamette River north to South, via foot or bike. Not far are OMSI - the Science Museum, OHSU - the educational hospital over the river and up the hill, the sweet Sellwood-Moreland Neighborhood, as well as a handful of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, including The hip Ford Building (where you can do yoga, get a haircut, buy a dress, and get a latte while listening to great local music!) We are just up the hill from the Aladdin Theatre for you live music lovers. For you families who may join us, there is a great kid-park and a kids resale shop blocks away. Additionally, New Seasons Market, the People's Food Co-op, and the Warehouse Cafe and Market are in the neighborhood and offer the full range of healthful groceries.
Guests have full access to the whole apartment, as well as the front porch. We have a hot tub in back that is for us alone. Sorry!
Interaction with Guests
We have just moved out to the country and only come in to our "city pad" just a few nights per week, if that. So, my interactions with you will be slim, and we may not meet at all! I rather miss being onsite to engage with my renters, I have to say. However, I am available by phone and text, and can be more present for anyone who wants to map the city a bit more and learn the attractions.
The neighborhood is lovely - the fall leaves gorgeous and our home, warm and cozy for the season. See you here!
Public transit options are copious and regular. There are about 6 bus lines to choose from just 2 blocks away. Street parking is included with our listing. Getting to us from the airport could include the MAX line and then a bus, or MAX plus cab, or cab all the way.
Other Things to Note
Please arrive by 10pm. If you cannot, please be in touch via text with your estimated ETA. We'll do our best to meet you at the door. Thank you!
*** House is privately owned. Owner is not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or illnesses that occur while on premises. Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guests.
We request that you are respectful, honest, clean and friendly! We prefer shoes off in the apartment - leave them in the shared foyer, or enter and use the bench to sit and leave them there. Coats go on the back of your door. Please no smoking!
Upon departure, we'd like for you to do a general pick-up throughout the place, a wipe-down in the kitchen and to tackle your own dishes. Please put all dirty towels and linens in the laundry basket in the laundry room. Ask if you need any help or clarification!
Please park across the street from the house. We have just a small spot in front of the house due to neighbors cars and a tree, and I usually have 3 small children and groceries. Thank you!
This Casa was perfect. The bed was super comfortable & the shower was great. It was nice having a kitchen & amenities available. The location seems far away, but the bus stop 1 block away has 3 lines that take you right to the city center for transfers to the MAX train or downtown exploration. Excellent price too. Robyn is stupendous about communication & even has someone on standby for additional help.
The apartment was great. Large, quiet, and comfortable. Neighborhood was quiet as well And within pretty close range of the rest of the city. I did not find much in the way of dining or groceries in the immediate area, however. The nightly rate was very good for Portland; the cleaning fee of $75 seemed a bit steep though. All things considered, I'd stay there again.
Frankly, I thought this apartment was a bit pricey when I first reviewed it online. That plus a larger than usual cleaning fee...but the location was convenient for us. Then, upon arrival this charming, we found this well designed and decorated place with comfy bed and gorgeous bath well worth it. And , as far as complimentary items left for us, coffee, eggs etc the entire package was perfect. And hair products and nice soaps!
This wonderful little unit was perfect for my stay in Portland. Bedroom, kitchen, wonderful little living room. Walk in closet & laundry room helped me to keep tidy and resonate with the serene atmosphere. I made good use of the incense burner. :-) It was 10 times better than the times I have stayed in a Junior suite in a luxury hotel downtown.
Robyn was lovely in her manner and I felt welcome in Casa Zennn.
It is a very nice space with a good and cozy atmosphere. It is in a great location for getting in and out of downtown and to all sides of Portland easily. Parking is very, very easy -- we got a parking spot right in front of the apartment almost every time we came home. Robyn has great bed linens/towels/shower curtain and a cute kitchen! The shower water pressure is great. The bed is good quality and comfy. We enjoyed our stay here, and enjoyed working with Robyn. When we are in Portland again, we would definitely see if Casa Zennn is available!
Our stay at Casa Zen was great! The place was cozy and welcoming. Robyn had left two eggs in the fridge as well as coffee and tea--so helpful! The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soaps. My mom and I felt very safe and comfortable there. We can't speak much to the neighborhood because we didn't explore it much, although the houses on the block were cute too. The only downside is there is a train nearby, which can be loud! But that's city life!
Hi! We are progressives, we have 3 awesome kids, we eat organic food, love our beautiful nature-escapes here in the Pacific Northwest, and we listen to good music and dance around the livingroom. Pretty standard for Portland, OR! I'm a dancer and teacher, and full-time Mama, and my husband is a builder/contractor. Come join us at Casa Zen!
