Come join us at the Zen Apartment! You'll enjoy a home rich in character, comfort and beauty. Our shanti one-bedroom (plus livingroom pull-out), full kitchen, new bath and gorgeous porch will suit a variety of good folks coming through Portland.
Casa Zen, a beautiful 1899 historic home, features 3 units. You'll be in the apartment on the main floor, a gem of a spot. We share an entrance and foyer, and the apartment is entirely yours. You'll enjoy a 1-bedroom with a Queen sized bed, small walk-in closet and adjacent new bathroom, a full (and fully-appointed) kitchen, your own laundry + additional closet/storage area, plus an airy living room (which includes a queen-sized pull-out sofa-bed) and eating nook. 4 people can comfortably stay here, though note that the bathroom is off the only bedroom.
Our home features a gorgeous wrap-around front deck and Japanese maple, with a sweet outside eating spot.
Casa Zen is located in inner SE Portland, and is very accessible to multiple key locations and routes. We are 3 blocks from the Ross Island Bridge which gives you immediate access to downtown attractions, shopping and business via car or multiple bus lines. We are close to the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and the Springwater Corridor Trail that takes you along the Willamette River north to South, via foot or bike. Not far are OMSI - the Science Museum, OHSU - the educational hospital over the river and up the hill, the sweet Sellwood-Moreland Neighborhood, as well as a handful of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, including The hip Ford Building (where you can do yoga, get a haircut, buy a dress, and get a latte while listening to great local music!) We are just up the hill from the Aladdin Theatre for you live music lovers. For you families who may join us, there is a great kid-park and a kids resale shop blocks away. Additionally, New Seasons Market, the People's Food Co-op, and the Warehouse Cafe and Market are in the neighborhood and offer the full range of healthful groceries.
Guests have full access to the whole apartment, as well as the front porch. We have a decommissioned hot tub in back that is not currently for use. Sorry!
Interaction with Guests
We have just moved out to the country and only come in to our "city pad" just a few nights per week, if that. So, my interactions with you will be slim, and we may not meet at all! I rather miss being onsite to engage with my renters, I have to say. However, I am available by phone and text, and can be more present for anyone who wants to map the city a bit more and learn the attractions.
The neighborhood is lovely - the spring blooms gorgeous and our home, breezy and restful for the season. See you here!
Public transit options are copious and regular. There are about 6 bus lines to choose from just 2 blocks away. Street parking is included with our listing. Getting to us from the airport could include the MAX line and then a bus, or MAX plus cab, or cab all the way.
Other Things to Note
Please arrive by 10pm. If you cannot, please be in touch via text with your estimated ETA. We'll do our best to meet you at the door if we are in town. Thank you!

We request that you are respectful, honest, clean and friendly! We prefer shoes off in the apartment - leave them in the shared foyer, or enter and use the bench to sit and leave them there. Coats go on the back of your door.
Please no smoking!
Upon departure, we'd like for you to do a general pick-up throughout the place, a wipe-down in the kitchen and to tackle your own dishes. Please put all dirty towels and linens in the laundry basket in the laundry room. Ask if you need any help or clarification!
Park anywhere you find in front or along the side. Thank you!
Visiting Portland on a college road trip with my daughter, we had a very pleasant stay at Casa Zen. The home was exactly as described, cozy, comfortable and very convenient to both downtown and destinations in the increasingly interesting Southeast Portland neighborhoods. The home has everything you need, from a cute kitchen to a comfortable sofa bed. Robyn responded promptly to all our questions before and during our stay, including a detailed and helpful email about grocery stores nearby where we could get a few items for breakfast.
The experience of a weekend getaway to Portland was made better by the accommodations. The place was clean, warm and inviting. The neighborhood was beautiful and the local (walking distance) attractions kept me busy.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This was my first Airbnb experience and I loved it! So much better than staying in a hotel. Robyn's apartment is lovely-- nicely furnished, comfortable, and so, so quiet. The neighbourhood (Canadian spelling!) is residential, green and leafy. I was sorry to leave at the end of my four-night stay. I would certainly recommend this place.
On s'y sent bien.
My French from many years ago (and familiarity via being Canadian) allows me to understand this review just a bit, and I am happy. It was a pleasure hosting Christiane, even though we did not have the plaisir or meeting, as she notes. I love hosting people "from away" - its a rich experience. I wish you well Christiane! If I have missed a suggested improvement, please resubmit. Thank you!
We loved Robyn's apartment! It was perfect for our trip to Portland for job interviews. The location was convenient to every part of the city, there was plenty of parking on the street, and it was easy to walk to the bus stop for public transportation as well. We didn't get to meet Robyn but she was available and made sure we had everything we needed.
We have stayed at Zen 3 or 4 times now so I guess that says it all. But ... I'll add more. A pleasant, comfortable, quiet space. It is just the right size for the two of us. It's well equipped and well located.
Robyn has always been helpful and welcoming - even though we didn't see her this time. We'll be back.
Hi Lynne and Burton! I'm so sorry we didn't leave you any morning snacks! You are absolutely right, I just can't always get to it being out of town anymore. And I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi, Lynne! I always enjoy chatting with you and catching up. See you next time, I hope!
The house was beautiful, extremely convenient to downtown Portland.

Hi! We are progressives, we have 3 awesome kids, we eat organic food, love our beautiful nature-escapes here in the Pacific Northwest, and we listen to good music and dance around the livingroom. Pretty standard for Portland, OR! I'm a dancer and teacher, and full-time Mama, and my husband is a builder/contractor. Come join us at Casa Zen!
