Our three bedroomed apartment is beautifully located in an end of terrace Victorian house at the foot of the Castle Hill in the market town of Kendal. It is in a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by trees and greenery but only 5 minutes walk along the river bank from the town centre and its traditional pubs, bars and restaurants.
You can walk up to the castle ruin, perfect for evening sunsets and enjoy panoramic views of the Lake District hills and the town. Or take a stroll along the river to the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum of Lakeland Life.
The lower ground floor apartment is tastefully furnished with a mix of antique and modern furniture. It has two bedrooms and one sitting room/bedroom. There are TVs in the bedrooms and a TV/DVD player in the living room. The kitchen is fitted with everything you need to enjoy a home from home stay such as oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom has a bath with shower over.
Kendal is known as the gateway to the Lake District but has lots to offer too, from micro breweries to theatre. Houghton House is about 5 mins walk from the centre of town and 10mins from Kendal train station.
Kendal is easily accessible from the M6 and has a mainline rail station Oxenholme Lake District with direct trains to London Euston 2.5 hours. There is a local rail link, 5 mins to Staveley (which has a nice pub the Eagle and Child) and about 15 mins to Windermere. There are also regular buses to take you into the heart of the Lakes.
Lovely place. Definitely recommended if visiting the Lake District!
Walk to Kendal in 2 minutes and access to all the lakes easily.
Rachel is a fantastic host!
Rachel's place is a gem. Ideal setup for my family of 6. Kendal Castle is just a 10 minute hill climb from the place. Would love to stay there again someday.
We felt that the apartment should be listed as a basic, basement flat. The pictures do not give a true picture of the property at all! It was shabby to say the least.Peeling paint, grubby walls, holes in the bathroom wall where the towel rail was hung - honestly, I could have cried! I didn't want to stay but was worried we wouldn't find anywhere else at such short notice. Don't be fooled into thinking there's a living room - just a sofa at one end of a dreadful bedroom. It could have benefited from a good clean too ( the fridge was filthy - with prior guest's half used food left there / the bin still full of rubbish/horrible stains on the armchair in the hall/ half used bars of grubby soap... I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture. The noise from people moving around upstairs was awful-even in the early hours. I will say that Rachel was pleasant enough. I'd be nice to guests too if I was charging them £105 a night!! Be warned... stay here at your peril....without doubt the WORST place I have ever stayed anywhere in the UK.
The King/Leith family
The apartment was excellent for our trip. We stayed with our daughter and there was plenty of space for us all. It was warm, clean and well furnished , with everything we needed. Rachel was excellent at communicating and gave us lots of advice on local eateries and places to visit. I would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting the Lakes.
The appartment corresponded to the description perfectly. It was comfortable and central heating meant nice and cosy when pouring with rain outside!! Kitchen was equipped with everything necessary.
Rachel was very kind and worried that we hadn't managed to get some food in, had even gone shopping in case the shops weren't open on our arrival on New Year's Eve! We appreciated that - thank you.
Excellent location, near all amenities.
The only slightly negative point I would say was the noise ...you hear the people walking around upstairs as not very sound proof.
Thanks for your feedback Alison, I'm glad you were comfortable and cosy and hope you enjoyed your stay despite the weather. I am really sorry if noise from upstairs bothered you, no-one has mentioned it before. The apartments are soundproofed to meet the requirements of building regulations in England but we are in the process of redecorating the apartment above and have lifted the rugs, I guess that has had an impact. We want everyone to be happy in during their stay so I will keep your comments in mind when putting the rugs back and put down some extra underlay. Best wishes to you all, Rachel
Rachel's flat is a brilliant place to stay. Warm, spacious and well-equipped, it provided everything we needed for a great stay in the Lakes. Rachel was helpful and friendly, and I would have no hesitation in recommending her!
Rachel's apartment was great. It is located in a quiet street within easy walking distance of the town centre. It was clean and spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. Rachel left some some supplies in the kitchen (milk etc) to help us settle in, along with local information and brochures. She was also available if we needed her assistance.
The town was nice and a great base to set out and explore the Lakes District by car or foot.
We had a wonderful few days there and would highly recommend it.
Rachel is a brilliant host, the apartment was lovely, spacious and ideally located for our stay. It very much felt like a home from home stay and myself and the family enjoyed it very much.
thanx a million
