Interaction with Guests

I will be available for any questions, but won't be present in the houseboat.

The Neighborhood

This lovely houseboat is is well located in a neighborhood called “Oud West”. It’s just a short walk from many restaurants, cafes and shops, and within walking distance of Dam square
The neighborhood is the perfect base for experiencing all that Amsterdam has to offer with it's fantastic cafes, restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Oud West is a vibrant multicultural area and is located very close to the city centre. From your doorstep it's just a 2 minute walk to the area of "Jordaan", that oozes atmosphere with its narrow streets, picturesque canals, brown cafes, art galleries and unique shops.

Getting around

The city center is on walking distance.
If you don't feel like walking, there is a tram stop around the corner, so the city center and the airport are easy to reach.
Unfortunately parking is quite expensive in our neighborhood, but if you don't need your car during your stay I can recommend cheaper places on the border of town.
If you are interested in renting a bicycle during your stay let me know. I can have them delivered to the apartment for you.

  • The Houseboat was absolutely fabulous and the best choice we could have made for our family of 5's stay in Amsterdam. The location was perfect - within walking distance of everything we wanted and needed and yet far enough away from the traditional tourist circuit. The communication before and during the stay was superb as well. Everything within the houseboat functioned without issue and everything was as described and shown.

I highly recommend the Houseboat Aviva for anyone seeking a unique, private, and fun location for your trip to Amsterdam!

  • Terrrific Experience!

Had some trouble with the Airbnb website and had to do a few special frustrating things, Annelies was with me every step of the way and was extremely accommodating every step of the way. Place was great, clean, well stocked and maintained, and just a cool Amsterdam experience. Plus we got to hang out with the ducks that occasionally tried to jump in the window. Thanks for everything!

  • Colorful, cozy, and close to anything you might want to see. Annelies was easy to work with, and we truly enjoyed our time on the houseboat. Would happily stay there again!

  • Great location close to the city center and we really enjoyed staying there.

  • Staying on a houseboat was a fun and very extraordinary experience. The houseboat aviva is in very good shape, we felt home very soon. The bright and modern interior and the modern amenities (dish washer, washing machine, tumbler) made us feel very comfortable and gave us a lot of flexibility. It is great to have the center of town as well as the Vondelpark and shopping options (groceries and other things) nearby.

Annelies was very helpful and reacted very fast: she found a nearby fitness center (Jordaan Health Club, which is very recommendable and within walking distance) for us and recommended a lap swimming pool in the area.

The only negative side was the goose in the canal ... it made a rasping sound throughout the entire day and also at night (I think it was begging for food) - which sometimes kept me from sleeping.

  • Beautiful location, excellent neighbors (ducks and geese).

This is a unique Amsterdam experience and worth doing if you have a few days to enjoy the city.

    Thanks Annelies.

  • We were 5 girls who stayed in this lovely houseboat. For us it was a perfect location, close to the city center but in a quiet neighborhood. It was also a big supermarket close by (3 min. walking). Every morning we got visit from the ducks, which make the experience on the boat more interesting. We also got free coffee and te which is a big plus. We never lived on a houseboat before, but we will comeback here for sure! Highly recommended!

  • A really wonderful place, very cozy and quiet. It’s far from all the confusion, but close enough that it doesn’t take you long to reach all the places you want to visit. The hosts are really nice and very helpful. An excellent experience overall. Would definitely return and recommend to all of my friends.

  • Our stay at the Houseboat Aviva was fantastic.

Our hosts were helpful and friendly, taking care of any requests (an iron) and making some fantastic local restaurant recommendations (Moeders).

The location was perfect, just off the street, close to the GVB (light rail / train), near two grocery stores, several good restaurants (Dutch, Thai, Italian) and in a quiet neighborhood. The houseboat is close enough to the center (only about 4 minutes via GVB), but far enough away to avoid the crowds and experience a typical (and enjoyable) neighborhood.

The houseboat itself was as expected...the pictures are (email hidden)fortable living room / kitchen, two nice bedrooms and a nice bathroom. Plus, the boat was always a nice temperature thanks to the heater, even in November. There was some creaking of the floor and some random wear and tear, but considering your are on a boat, this is to be expected.

It was perfect for our family (2 adults, 2 kids), very safe, lots of room and as mentioned, a lot of duck, geese, swan and bird friends.

No question, we will rent this houseboat again.
