This cute little cottage is perfectly situated 2 miles from downtown and 1 mile from the University of Utah and the amazing trails above the city. Approximately 40 minutes from front door to the several areas lifts. Book it today. No minimum.
550 sq foot, 1 bdr/ 1 bath single-family home, was a Tailor’s Shop in 1880, where the Tailor built his family home next door. Officially, in the National Registry the home is the John and Isabella Gibson house. We have painstakingly restored every inch of both buildings and we garnered the Utah Heritage Foundation Award in 2008 for our restoration work. The house is located in the lower Avenues minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, the University of Utah campus and three area hospitals and is in walking distance of several fabulous local restaurants and coffee shops.
This quant cottage comes completely furnished and includes a claw-footed tub, full kitchen, fireplace, and private entrances. The main room includes a double bed. There is also a raised loft bed for the kids or adventurous types, accessible by a sliding library ladder. The house is clean and simple with a modern touch, fresh linen and towels are included. The rental rate is $80 per night - $90 per night on Friday and Saturday and all state sales taxes are included in that price.
Amenities include full kitchen and coffee set-up, shampoo, soap, a hair dyer, FREE WiFi, Apple TV & Local channels, Salt Lake Tribune (weekend) and off-street parking.

The terminus to the City Creek Canyon Nature Preserve and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail – a 150 mile trail system – are within walking distance affording access miles of hiking, biking and running trails. The trail head for Dry Creek Canyon is less than a mile away and from here, trails meander through the foothills. We do try our best to be available upon check-in however, some arrivals are well past our bedtime, so we can make special arrangements. Overall, I think we leave the level of interaction to our guests.
This is the first neighborhood in SLC. The homes in the Avenues are protected in the National Historic Registry. Lots of great architecture to see. Easy to walk, very friendly well kept neighborhood. Many who live in this area are transplants and work either for the University of Utah or one of the many hospitals in the area. So, it is very eclectic and bohemian (for Salt Lake).
You may park on the left hand side of our driveway, just beyond the sidewalk. Bus transportation is very close on P Street and 3rd Avenue. From the Airport, if you take North Temple straight into downtown, when North temple crosses State Street it turns into 2nd Avenue. Just continue on 2nd Avenue until P Street. We are on the NE Corner of 2nd and P.
Lots of restaurants are in walking distance. Cucina Deli, Avenues Bistro, Sawadee, Wild Grape, Einsteins, Saffron Valley, Aristo's, and Market Street.

Great stay, place was cute, well appointed, and the bed was very comfortable. Had an excellent night's sleep.
We had a very pleasant stay. The apartment is adorable and full of thoughtful extras... coffee, a hair dryer, an iPhone charger, TV with netflix/hulu, an iron and ironing board. There is easy parking and it's close to the university and a yoga center. Friendly hosts that were flexible with our departure time.
1880's Charmer is a great place to stay in SLC! We had a very laid back and comfortable experience. Easy to find, has all the right amenities, and an incredibly nice host. The Avenues neighborhood is cute and quiet and perfectly located for downtown SLC food and entertainment exploration.
It was a perfect stay. We would love to return and stay longer The avenues are beautiful and historic. I would love to explore them with the book in the room with the houses listed and historic information about them. Great location close to downtown. I love the claw foot tub! We enjoyed the almonds and dried apricots for breakfast. Thanks for everything.
My husband and I travelled to Salt Lake City this past weekend for a soccer game. We stayed at the Historic Avenues Charmer and we absolutely loved it. The guest house is super cute with the most amazing furniture. If we ever travel back to SLC we will most definitely stay there again. Jennifer was a gracious hostess helping us find our way to the soccer stadium. Thanks for a great weekend!!
Terrible. No reasonable response.
Clearly there was a communication breakdown. Your booking came in at midnight. I responded by 6 a.m. in the morning informing you that I could accommodate you by 6 p.m. After you replied at 8, I rushed to get the apartment ready and then you canceled. We have a moderate cancelation policy which is fully refunded if canceled by 5 days out. I am sorry that you were unhappy.
You will not be disappointed with Jennifer & Jim's Avenues Charmer. I had girlfriends visiting from San Francisco and I wanted to show them the great houses in the Avenues and be close to more activities, because I live 100 miles south of SLC in a rural area. I feel like I really lucked out on my first Airbnb experience.
Jennifer greeted us and showed us the Charmer. The bottle water she provided was greatly appreciated by my sea level friends. The location couldn't be better, easily accessible by car or bus. If you enjoy walking you could take 45mins-1hour to walk downtown or walk around in the neighborhood and enjoy the historical houses. Jennifer has a book of houses of the Avenues available in her Charmer. There is a small refrigerator, steam ware, cooking and eating utensils, bowls, plates, and items to cook with if needed. So if you wanted to stay in and cook, you could. The place is so sunny and is just happy, temperature was regulated and my city friends were never cold. We loved the light and felt comfortable during our entire stay. My friends shared the bed and I slept in the loft and it was nice, the mattress pad was comfy and it had a nice duvet. You can tell the garden is well maintained, they also have a very friendly tabby cat that will share the sun with you, if you want to sit with him/her on the front porch.
I would recommend the Avenues Charmer to my friends and look forward to more family and friends visiting me in Utah or if I ever need a taste of the city life that I miss, I'll be staying here where I can be comfortable and close to activities.
What we explored:
Decades Vintage Clothing, 627 S. State St.
The Westerner Club, they wanted to see Cowboys and I honestly didn't know this place existed, but it was so much fun if you like to dance or like to "try" to dance.
Cucina Deli, walking distance. All of their prepared food and pastries looked delish, we enjoyed perfectly created cappuccinos and I'll be back for a wine tasting shortly.
High West, 703 Park Ave. Park City, UT (you should go to Park City & open on Sun.)
Tin Angel, 365 W 400 S, Salt Lake City, UT
Oasis Cafe, 151 S 500 E, Salt Lake City (open on Sundays)
Murphy's Bar (it was the weekend prior to St. Patrick's day), many bars and music in the 100-400 S. Main Street section
Red Iguana, 736 W North Temple, try the mole sampler!
Ensign Peak Trailhead, 1mi. easy, has great views of the valley.
Avenues Yoga Studio (walking distance from Charmer)
Copper Onion, always good, call for reservations well in advance
Jennifer and Jim were excellent hosts! The accommodations were fantastic, they were extremely friendly, and provided my wife and I with great information about the area. We were visiting the area to look at places to move and Jim and Jennifer were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The location is great, and I highly recommend the 'Avenues Charmer' to anyone staying in SLC!
Our stay at the Avenues Charmer was wonderful. Fantastically clean and well thought out use of the small space. Jennifer and her husband's hospitality was greatly appreciated, and we will for sure stay there again on our next visit.
What a fantastic place. This little cottage plays bigger than the pictures suggest. The loft accommodations (in addition to the bed) are a lot of fun. Jim and Jen are great hosts. And so is Ike the chihuahua!
The neighborhood is beautiful. It's called the "Avenues" area of SLC and its chocked full of stylish cottages and bungalows. Definitely worth a walk around. And don't miss Cucina, an excellent little restaurant and deli a few blocks a way.
All in all a really wonderful experience with easy access to ski slopes and hiking areas (it was about 30-40 minutes to Snowbird/Alta).
Hope to come back soon!
