The Space

550 sq foot, 1 bdr/ 1 bath single-family home, was a Tailor’s Shop in 1880, where the Tailor built his family home next door. Officially, in the National Registry the home is the John and Isabella Gibson house. We have painstakingly restored every inch of both buildings and we garnered the Utah Heritage Foundation Award in 2008 for our restoration work. The house is located in the lower Avenues minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, the University of Utah campus and three area hospitals and is in walking distance of several fabulous local restaurants and coffee shops.

This quant cottage comes completely furnished and includes a claw-footed tub, full kitchen, fireplace, and private entrances. The main room includes a double bed. There is also a raised loft bed for the kids or adventurous types, accessible by a sliding library ladder. The house is clean and simple with a modern touch, fresh linen and towels are included. The rental rate is $95 per night - $110 per night on Friday and Saturday and all state sales taxes are included in that price.

Amenities include full kitchen and coffee set-up, shampoo, soap, a hair dyer, FREE WiFi, Apple TV & Local channels, Salt Lake Tribune (weekend) and off-street parking.

15 minutes by car from Salt Lake City International Airport. We are 6 blocks from the TRAX light rail line. UTA #3 bus stop is one block away on 3rd Avenue and EAST provides access to Hogle Zoo and Research Park, the VA Medical Center, and WEST to Downtown Salt Lake/ City Creek Center, Salt Lake Central Station connecting to TRAX/FrontRunner/Amtrak/Greyhound (12 min).

Utah's legendary "Greatest Snow on Earth" is close at hand. Alta, Snowbird, Park City, Deer Valley and The Canyons resorts are less than 30 minutes away by car. Brighton and Solitude are 40 minutes and another four major ski areas are no more than an hour away.

The terminus to the City Creek Canyon Nature Preserve and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail – a 150 mile trail system – are within walking distance affording access miles of hiking, biking and running trails. The trail head for Dry Creek Canyon is less than a mile away and from here, trails meander through the foothills. The canyon and foothill habitat is home to bear, moose, elk, deer, cougar, bobcat and coyote.

Guest Access

You have a full kitchen, wifi, apple tv, claw foot tub, and when the garden is in season you may harvest what you need.

Interaction with Guests

We do try our best to be available upon check-in however, some arrivals are well past our bedtime, so we can make special arrangements. Overall, I think we leave the level of interaction to our guests.

The Neighborhood

This is the first neighborhood in SLC. The homes in the Avenues are protected in the National Historic Registry. Lots of great architecture to see. Easy to walk, very friendly well kept neighborhood. Many who live in this area are transplants and work either for the University of Utah or one of the many hospitals in the area. So, it is very eclectic and bohemian (for Salt Lake).

Getting around

You may park on the left hand side of our driveway, just beyond the sidewalk. Bus transportation is very close on P Street and 3rd Avenue. From the Airport, if you take North Temple straight into downtown, when North temple crosses State Street it turns into 2nd Avenue. Just continue on 2nd Avenue until P Street. We are on the NE Corner of 2nd and P.

Other Things to Note

Lots of restaurants are in walking distance. Cucina Deli, Avenues Bistro, Sawadee, Wild Grape, Einsteins, Saffron Valley, and Aristo's.

  • Jennifer and her husband were such great hosts. They were both very helpful and great to talk to. Their rental area is so cute and the garden outside was amazing, we spent the whole night and morning just taking pictures. All the houses around the area are fabulous and fun to walk around and look at, a wonderful place to stay to see historic Salt Lake!

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for a month and it was wonderful! It felt like home; private, clean, safe, beautiful. I live in SLC myself, and I'm sad I don't get to come back here after work today. I would absolutely recommend booking this place!

  • We had a lovely time. The room is delightful with fresh air, and a comfortable bed. It is located in a safe neighborhood, close to downtown with a rich sense of history. Jennifer's recommendation of a local restaurant was not only spot-on, but so good we returned for breakfast after enjoying a delicious lunch. We will be staying again before we return to the east coast.

  • If you like a friendly walkable neighborhood, tons of natural light and vaulted ceilings, cozy accommodations, fresh air and a beautifully manicured yard, you will love staying at the Avenues Charmer. The location is the perfect distance to shopping, dining, entertainment and attractions by foot or a short cab ride. Jennifer and the Levy family are warm, welcoming and very hospitable. We were encouraged to enjoy the yard and take any fresh vegetables we wanted from the garden. Directions for parking, WIFI, check in and out are very clear and Jennifer was available for questions and concerns. If you’re looking for a home away from home the 1880’s Avenues Charmer is the spot. We had a delightful time on our vacation to Salt Lake City and recommend the Avenues Charmer to anyone looking for a retreat within the city.

  • We called Jennifer from the road just an hour away from Salt Lake after another booking fell through. She was super fast in responding and flexible with us. We were so grateful to stay in her adorable guest house rather than a crummy hotel. Thank you Jennifer!

About
I am a stay at home Mom of 2 boys, both of us came here to Salt Lake to escape the city of LA. My husband and I fell in love with this house because of it's old claw footed tub and that led to so much more! It is truly a labor of love. We love to entertain and host travelers from all over. I am a runner, a painter and an avid cook and gardener. My husband is a marathon runner and an engineer. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.
