About this listing

The space

Our cabin is a quiet and fun getaway. The 2 bedroom & 1 bath cabin is furnished with vintage and western furniture. King and queen size beds, and a single roll away easily accomodate guests. Wood decks on the front and rear of the cabin offer a great place to enjoy the views, read or have supper. There's an outdoor shower for after the lake or au natural. Views from the rear deck are to the Northwest of the San Juan Mountains and Southwest to the lake. Beautiful sunsets! The cabin is located on 2 acres.

Arboles is about halfway between Durango (30 min away) and Pagosa Springs (30 min away). Arboles is next to Navajo Lake State Park. You won't find a lot of commercial activity in Arboles, it is tiny. It is a very quiet and private area with under 500 residents. There's a gas station and quick shop, bar & grill, and the post office. The name Arboles is Spanish for 'Trees'.

With Navajo Lake so close, boating and fishing are a natural. The Navajo dam was constructed in 1962 for irrigation water for the Navajo Indian Reservation. To this day, the area remains unpolluted and sparsely populated. The state park website is really helpful, type in Navajo State Park Colorado.

There are hiking trails along portions of the lake and nearby in the San Juan National Forest. Find out more about the forest at (URL HIDDEN)

Chimney Rock National Monument and is about 10 miles away. It is one of the many Ancestral Puebloan sites close to the cabin. See the website for Chimney Rock.

Mesa Verde National Park is just outside of Durango. It is famous for its Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings. See the website for National Parks, Mesa Verde.

Lots of hot springs in this area of Colorado, The Springs in Pagosa Springs and Trimble Hot Springs in Durango.

Skiing can be found at Durango Mountain Resort or Wolf Creek both about an hour away, and Telluride ski resort is @ 3 hours away.

If you want to go 'to town', try 3 great places close by -

Durango, @ 30 miles to the West, look for activities on the town website. This town offers a lot of entertainment, cultural, shopping and restaurants. Recently named as one of Smithsonian Magazine's Top 20 Small Towns in the U.S. There are hiking and biking trails, and river rafting. The narrow gauge train travels to Silverton in the Continental Divide mountains. The town website will list local events of which there are plenty!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin! The place is decorated with a Western theme that we loved, especially my husband. All amenities are there plus extra comforts like games and movies. The views are spectacular. Navajo Lake is just down the hill. Becky quickly answered my questions. I wish we could have stayed longer!

Navajo Lake Cabin Getaway is a great retreat, quiet and remote. Becky & Don made my experience comfortable and enjoyable with all the amenities of home. Love the western art and décor. Two nice seating decks to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Navajo Lake is beautiful. Thank you Becky and Don!

The hosts do not live near the property, but they were readily available by phone and they kindly made us comfortable and readily answered any questions. We found the house to be a great private retreat, and the view from the deck (during the day and at night!) was glorious. The bedrooms and living space were comfortable and inviting. While location was a bit remote, we didn't mind at all and in fact we sought it out, so it suited us just right.

It is a great quiet location and (relatively) close to many fun and interesting activities and my conference location in Ignacio!

Great little getaway. This place is very close to the boat ramp if you are looking to fish on Navajo. Bed was extremely comfortable. Kitchen is fully equipped minus a dishwasher. We really enjoyed sitting outside on the patio in the evenings around the chiminea. Lots of cute furnishings. We would definitely rent here again if we return to Navajo.

Becky and Don were great hosts. The cabin had all of the amenities promised and was ready to move in and enjoy when we arrived. It's located within 5 min. of Navajo Reservoir and was a little oasis to excape the summer heat at the end of the day. The western decor was fun and we appreciated the quality linens and well outfitted kitchen. Don and Becky made it seamless providing thorough instructions and checking in to make sure we had what was needed.

From the moment you set foot in the door you feel at home. What an amazing little house and just moments from the lake. We loved it so much we were unable to leave and extended our stay. The only tough thing was the shower so we just used the outdoor one. Will stay as often as possible. Thank you so much.

Response from Becky & Don:
Thanks for your lovely comments Haidy! The information about the aux pump was in the info we sent. I'm so sorry that you missed it and had to suffer through We'll make sure that feature is better communicated. The cabin is on a hill above the lake, and the water pressure is low in the shower. The auxiliary pump in the cabin is really necessary to activate when showering.

We are outdoor people. Hiking, camping, biking, sking are hobbies we enjoy. We like to cook at home, have a glass of wine and catch a movie on Netflix. 2 homes are powered by solar PV panels and we also have an all electric car/Nissan Leaf. Love to travel, within the US and overseas. Becky is a CPA working at a not for profit, Don is retired. We have a dog that travels with us whenever possible and a couple cats who prefer to remain at home. Becky's family are from Wyoming. Don's family are from Michigan. His Father built his own home in the late forties in and his brothers have all done the same. We have two second homes, both built by Don, this one in Arboles CO (built in 1986) and one in Frankfort MI (built in 1998). Both places are small and cozy provided everything a couple really needs. We are also open to possible home exchange.
