The Delta Bohemian Guest House takes Clarksdale's artsy edge to new heights. A colorful lodging that doesn't wallow in sharecropper poverty, but also doesn't pretend that the Delta hasn't suffered its hard times. Earthy and Elegant.

The Delta Bohemian Guest House takes Clarksdale's artsy edge to new heights. A colorful lodging that doesn't wallow in sharecropper poverty, but also doesn't pretend that the Delta hasn't suffered its hard times. Earthy and Elegant.

The Space

The Delta Bohemian Guest House, a beautiful, artsy, self-contained, short-term accommodation, is ideally located in the heart of old, residential Clarksdale, only three blocks from downtown. Clarksdale is known world-wide as the Birthplace of the Blues.

The DBGH is a one-of-a-kind lodging destination for up to 4 Adult travelers interested in the Blues and Delta culture and who is searching for that perfect combination of authentic Delta, sophistication, comfort, and attention to detail.

Amenities include a living area with a large HD flat screen television, full kitchen stocked with complimentary breakfast items complete with Keurig coffee maker, and a downstairs eating area. Upstairs, guests will find two bedrooms ("The Green Acres" and "The Delta Princess" rooms) and a tiled and mirrored bath. Each bedroom accommodates 2 Adults.

Guests have a side patio, access to a private outdoor bar and patio, and a large fenced backyard completes the funky lighted "Bohemian Pond and Garden" with picnic area and grill.

Great attention to authenticity and detail has been paid to the décor and furnishings throughout the home.

As part of the "Delta Bohemian" experience, guests are personally greeted upon arrival by owners Billy and Madge Marley Howell, native Mississippi Deltans and publishers of The Delta Bohemian, an online literary and multi-media website celebrating the constancy and diversity of the Mississippi Delta.

The Delta Bohemian Guest House, a former two story Delta cypress cook's house, was built in 1917 by a Delta planter and was extensively restored in 2012 by the Howells with the help of fellow native Deltan, friend, and interior designer Marilyn Trainor Storey, principal designer of Jackson, Mississippi's Per Design Studio and design blogger MS Design Maven.

The Howells and Storey have created a unique lodging using an upscale, yet earthy and bohemian style, infusing the house with warmth and a real sense of the old Mississippi Delta.

The DBGH is an ideal respite for couples, groups of friends, small families, business travelers, and Deltans returning home to see family and friends.

The Delta Bohemian Guest House is available for short term rental year round, in addition to availability during all Clarksdale and area Blues festivals.

I am the Publisher and Producer of the DELTA BOHEMIAN, an online magazine of sorts which is all about the Mississippi Delta. We have an online retail store, too. We opened the DELTA BOHEMIAN GUEST HOUSE in August 2012. It is a fabulous place to stay while you are in the Mississippi Delta. It is a home away from home environment. Safe. Quiet. Discrete. Unique. Fun. A self-accommodation for travelers looking for something different. I was born in Clarksdale in 1958 but was raised in Tallahatchie County near a little town of 250+ people called Sumner. I went off to school at All Saints Episcopal High School in Vicksburg my junior year in high school. Upon graduation I went to Southwestern at Memphis, now called Rhodes College, and later transferred to the University of Texas in Austin where I graduated in 1980 with a BA in Theater. During my college years I lived in Paris and in Bilbao, Spain during the summers. I enjoy traveling. I lived in Dallas, Memphis 3 different times, Austin, Red Rock, Texas, Philadelphia, PA, Atlanta, GA and New York City where I worked for Putumayo. I moved back home to the Mississippi Delta to Sumner in 1994 to raise my daughter Corinne. I finally moved to the place where I was born, Clarksdale, in 2010 when my husband, Billy, and I bought the Salon de Boheme on West Second Street, a home I have adored and longed to go in my entire life. When it became available for sale, and Billy and I were newlyweds looking for a place of our own, I couldn't believe it. We feel so blessed to live in it. In addition, we were wildly blessed when we found out that if we bought the house on West Second, we also got the bonus guest house in the back yard. Oh My! Are you kidding me? It needed a lot of work. We partially renovated it in 2010. New roof. New siding. Insulation. Basic stuff. Then we rented it to two Teach 4 America girls for 2 years. Once their commitment here in Clarksdale ended, they each returned home to their families and Billy and I had a decision to make. Continue to rent it long term or bite the bullet and fully restore this special place. Many thousands of dollars later, after 9 weeks, and with the help of our good friend, Interior Designer Marilyn Trainor Storey, we opened the Delta Bohemian Guest House. We adore this place and we think you will too. Some day, Billy and I have said we might have to move into the back guest house and rent out our big house. It is difficult to describe just how good it feels to be in this guest house. It's something very special and we feel honored and blessed to be it's keepers and to offer it up to new and old friends. Life is about relationships and we treasure every encounter we have in the home's regard. We look forward to meeting you, welcoming you and giving you a place to experience the Mississippi Delta like nowhere else you have ever stayed. Goodness abounds!
