Other Things to Note
Our breakfast is vegetarian with vegan & gluten free options...let us know your allergies in advance.
Distances are greater than you think here and roads are narrow..the smaller car works best!
we prefer arrivals to be before 9pm and we are happy to serve a later dinner if we are informed in advance.
in summer there is long light and in winter the country roads can be very dark already at 5pm so allow time to arrive safely. We are a destination well worth lingering at and enjoying the food, books and gardens...so relax this is your holiday!
Breakfast is 08:30 -10:00 check out is 11am. let us know if you want dinner and give us a rough time. Use the seperate entrance for pets. only smoke outside the house. try to avoid showering after 11. If you come home late - it is an old house so "hush" on the stairs.
We were welcomed by the staff, Lorna and Billy with hospitable warmth. It was a quick overnighter, but we had a bit of a chat and even met Lorna's mum, who was celebrating her 79th birthday! Next morning, had a chat to Billy in the garden, which is a masterpiece in itself. Could have hung around easily for longer!
This was just great experience during our travels in Ireland - we were 2 adults and 3 kids. The accomodation was just as described , very interesting house-style with many decorations from Lorna´s travels. Lorna provides excellent food , each breakfast was just an experience, the kids loved it here. The garden is beautifull and you we were treated very well during our whole stay. The cousine is something extraordinary, hard to find it these days and we all have enjoyed it a lot. It´s definitely worth to try it ! Thanks Lorna, you were definitely the best host during our travels in Ireland. Hope to see you :-)
We've been delighted by our 4 days stay at Lorna's house. My daughters (6 and 9) were happy to play with the animals (dogs and cats) and to visit the beautiful garden. We've enjoyed the breakfast (organic food, fresh fruits, apple scones, cheese, cereals and so many other very good things to eat) included in our reservation, and we also discovered the restaurant's menu (vetegarian anf fish); it's not cheap but it worths it because it's delicious and everything is homemade with fresh products. From the house, it was easy to visit the Dingle peninsula, Killarney and Tralee's areas. Lorna and her husband were very kind to anyone. We keep a very good memory of our stay ! Sabine
Lorna and her husband are a very welcoming, helpful couple who immediately made me feel at home. The accommodation is quirky and unique with an 'off-the-beaten-track' feel to it but everything was still professional and efficient. They also seem to be very family-friendly. The breakfast was delicious - best home-made scones I've ever had - and I would have loved to eat in their award-winning restaurant as the food looked great but unfortunately I didn't have enough time there.
If you like places with an exotic touch, that´s a B&B/restaurant that you will enjoy to stay. The rooms have indeed an oriental flavour! Beside, breakfast is not only good but changes you from the traditional bacon and eggs or salmon and scrambled eggs. And if you want to eat at her restaurant, I also recommend it! "Tasty, healthy and home-made " are at least three ingredients of its success!

Lorna is a teacher of Egyptian dance, a vegetarian and wholefood cook a short story writer[ author of The Phoenix Cookbook "A Culinary Adventure" and a youth and community worker. The Phoenix was established twenty years ago by her and her husband Billy who is a collector of jazz music. The house is a renovated farmhouse full of books and musical intruments, an open fire, solar panels, natural stone walls, hemp plaster and unusual decorations and antiques from Lornas world travels. The garden is a mixture of wild and cultivated plants and secret places to sit and contemplate as well as a glass house and a fantastic vegetable patch. Lorna and her staff are always ready to spend time with guests on any thing from exciting activities in the area, to identifying the rare herbs and plants in the gardens or discussing food, world travels, films, books and art. Lorna lived in Switzerland for many years and speaks Swiss german and could even give an impromptu dance performance at the end of the evening.
